✨✧ Blue StarsPardon My English (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Mercury (France), 1957. Used ... Out Of Stock
Excellent work from this fab French vocal group – their second LP, and infinitely harder to find than the first! The group was led by Blossom Dearie – the American singer, living in Paris at the time, and in the vein of groups they inspired (Les Double Six, The Swingle Singers) The Blue Stars sing vocalese versions of jazz standards, done in a romping groovy style that's a bit like Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross, but perhaps less solo-oriented. Titles include "Move", 'I'll Remember April", "Please Be Kind", "Promises & Lies", "Don't Be That Way", and "Bernie's Tune". CD also features a huge amount of bonus tracks – 8 more cuts that include "Lola", "Lettre A Virgine", "Embrasse Moi Bien", "C'Est La Vie", and "Grapevine". (Vocalists, French) CD

✨✧ MC SolaarProse Combat (white vinyl pressing) ... LP
Polydor/Universal (France), 1993. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Maybe the crowning moment on record of the mighty McSolaar – certainly the first French MC to conquer the global world of hip hop, and also maybe one of the first non-American artists to show that other languages could work equally well with the music! The production here is every bit as great as Solaar's lyrics – handled by Jimmy Jay and La Funk Mob, the latter of whom you might know from albums of their own – definitely pioneering European talents in taking the best US modes of the early 90s, and mixing them with a fresher array of beats and samples! Titles include "Obsolete", "Dix De Mes Disciples", "La Fin Justifie Les Moyens", "Sequelles", "Prose Combat", "Nouveau Western", "Superstarr", and "Temps Mort". (Hip Hop, French) LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Les Double SixLes Double Six (Les Double Six/Meet Quincy Jones) (with bonus track) ... CD
RCA (UK), 1960/1962. Used ... Out Of Stock
Great early work by this swingin' French vocal group! These guys swung as hard as American jazz vocal groups, like Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross or The Hi Los – but they stuck to hipper, jazzier material, and had a driving sound that never let up! The group is led by singer Mimi Perrin, who also handed the arrangements – and it also features work by Eddy Louiss, Christiane Legrand, and vocalist Ward Swingle, in the years before he took off to form the Swingle Singers! This wonderfully remastered CD package features 19 tracks from their first two albums, plus one rare additional cut – titles include "Walkin", "Rat Race", "Meet Benny Bailey", "Fascination", "Boo's Blues", "Naima", "Boplicity", "Westwood Walk", and "Early Autumn". (Vocalists, French) CD
