✨✧ BadbadnotgoodIII ... LP
Innovative Leisure, 2014. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Great work from this ultra-hip trio – an amazing combination of keyboards, bass, and drums – served up in styles that are rooted in funk and jazz, but go to so many other places as well! The drums crackle with a quality schooled in 70s breaks and beats, stripped down to their core – and the mix of keyboards echo a range of innovators from CTI to Money Mark, with a spacious flow that leaves plenty of room for the basslines to drive the tunes! Other instrumentation includes bits of guitar and percussion from the group, plus some guest tenor and strings as well. Titles include "Hedron", "Differently Still", "Confessions", "Triangle", "Can't Leave The Night", "CS60", and "Since You Asked So Kindly". (New Grooves, Deep Funk) LP, Vinyl record album
(Still in the stickered outer sleeve, with light wear.)

✨✧ Harbans SrihWireman/Beyond The Cosmic Ray ... 7-inch
Funk Night, 2023. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
"Wireman" has a groove that owes plenty to The Meters, but in the best way possible – as Harbans takes a mix of funky drums, organ, and riffing guitar – then makes it his own with a nicely jazzy sax solo, which has almost a laidback Stanley Turrentine CTI sort of vibe! "Beyond The Cosmic Ray" is slower and spookier – funky drums, but a very cool vibey keyboard sound that makes you feel like you're not getting away from the cosmic ray after all! (Funky 45's, Deep Funk) 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Yesterdays New QuintetAngles Without Edges ... CD
Stones Throw, 2001. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Throw away all your 70s electric funk records – because the classic sound is back, and fresher than ever! Yesterday's New Quintet is a side project from hip hop producer Madlib – and the group's firmly steeped in a love of the mellow funky sound of 70s labels like Kudu and CTI. Vibes collides with Fender Rhodes collides with sweet drumbeats collides with slight touches of turntablist production – for a sensational full LP debut that's one of the best new funky records we've heard in years! The sound is incredible – and these guys really do a heck of a lot more than just recreate an older style of music. They take all the hip hop/beathead love of 70s mellow jazz funk, and lift it firmly into the 21st Century with a whole new set of hooks and grooves! Titles include "Julani", "Papa", "Daylight", "Hot Water", "Sun Goddess", "Last Day", "Broken Dreams", "Life's Angles", "Keeper Of My Soul", and "Uno Esta". CD
(Out of print.)
