✨✧ GalacticYa-Ka-May ... CD
Anti, 2010. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Chunky & funky New Orleans sounds from Galactic – as far reaching and and unpigeonholeable as ever on their second album for Anti- – possibly the the most diverse of their career! Ya-Ka-May rolls out some of the hip hop funk vibe that carried their previous album, but that's just one flavor in a boldly spiced entry – with brassy Crescent City funk, heavy percussive groovers, swampy soul & funk rock numbers and more. Galactic's been pumping long enough to earn the requests of young guns and legends alike, and this record features guests including Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Rebirth Brass Band, Trombone Shorty & Corey Henry and many more. Includes "Friends Of Science", "Boe Money" feat Rebirth Brass Band, "Heart Of Steel" feat Irma Thomas, "Bacchus" feat Allen Toussaint, "Cineramascope" feat Trombone Shorty & Corey Henry, "Dark Water" feat John Boutte, "Krewe D'Etat", "Speaks His Mind" feat Walter "Wolfman" Washington and more. ✨✧ John Scofield with Medeski, Martin, & WoodA Go Go (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Verve, 1998. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A key record in the rebirth of guitarist John Scofield in the 90s – one of the sets that had him emerging as a funk-styled player in ways that were very different than some of his earlier work on record! Here, the Medeski Martin & Wood trio help John hit a very cool groove – blending the organ and keyboards of John Medeski, bass of Chris Wood, and very funky drums of Billy Martin in ways that allow Scofield to step out with some wickedly sharp work on both acoustic and electric guitars! And the approach also seems to do plenty for MM&W too – giving them a different vibe than some of their other records of the decade, and maybe more focus on classic jazz funk modes as well. Titles include "Chank", "Boozer", "Jeep On 35", "Kubrick", "Green Tea", "Deadzy", "Chicken Dog", and "A Go Go". (Jazz, Deep Funk) LP, Vinyl record album

Trombone Shorty continues to charismatically do away with genre definitions of all kinds as well as defying convential expectations New Orleans brass band jazz, soul or jazzy soul – he's been doing that for years and it's still his way on For True! Includes "Buckjump", "Encore", "For True", "Do To Me", "The Craziest Thing", "Dumaine St", "Mrs. Orleans", "Nervis", "Roses", "Big 12", "There There Was You" and "Lagniappe" (Pts 1 & 2).
