✨✧ Electric Peanut Butter CompanyElectric Peanut Butter Company – Trans-Atlantic Psych Classics Vol 1 ... LP
Ubiquity, 2015. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Sweet and salty psych-soul-rock-funk from Adrian Quesada and Shawn Lee, working together as The Electric Peanut Butter Company! They're a company of just 2, handling every aspect themselves, but if you if ever heard anything by either party, you know this is going to have a huge sound. Lots of fuzzed out psych funk touches on this one – a mix of heady instrumentals and some fun vocal numbers. Shawn handles the singing, and the duo are both multi-instrumentalists and leftfield funk geniuses – managing to work with myriad influences without sounding exactly like anyone but themselves. The drums, guitars and keyboards are masterful here, but there's a lot of cool instrumental and production touches throughout. Vol 1 is actually the duo's second album – the first was Vol 2 (naturally!) – and it delivers on the diverse debut, and then some! Includes "Flexi Funk", "Beer Good", "Spread The Jam", "Stealio", "Tennis Elbow", "Mister Pink", "Austin City Limiter", "Go Go Go", "Damn Skippy", "Jenn Wu", "Fat Budda" and more. ✨✧ Sharon Jones & The Dap KingsSoul Of A Woman (with download) ... LP
Daptone, 2017. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The fantastic final album from Sharon Jones – a wonderfully deep talent who was taken from us all too soon! The set's maybe the ultimate setting for Sharon's incredible voice – as it features both her longtime core combo, the Dap-Kings – as well as additional backings from the Bushwick Philharmonic – a small ensemble of strings who really help elevate the music to classic status! If you're worried that the strings might soften the sound, the very first note of the record will put your mind at rest – as will the heavy drums that mark just about every track, and keep things hard and funky throughout. If anyone ever doubted that the Daptone label was our modern equivalent of Stax Records or Atlantic, this will certainly be the set to change their mind – and will also stand forever as a bittersweet reminder of all the greatness that Sharon Jones gave us over the years. Titles include "Searching For A New Day", "Rumors", "Matter Of Time", "Sail On", "Just Give Me Your Time", "Come & Be A Winner", "Call On God", and "These Tears". LP, Vinyl record album

Sweet VandalsLovelite ... CD
Unique (Germany), 2009. Used ... $5.99
The lovelite's burning strong on this second set from The Sweet Vandals – an album that cooks even more than their debut! The grooves are even tighter than before – still steeped in 60s soul influences, but with a heavier dose of funk too – a mad-romping blend of hard drums, bad-stepping bass, and heavy Hammond – all topped by the searing soul vocals of Mayka Edjole! These guys hail from Spain, but have a deep funk groove that's plenty universal – and with an album this strong, you can bet we'll be hearing plenty from them on this side of the Atlantic in coming years. Lyrics are all in English, and titles include "Funky Children", "Thank You For You", "Good Thing", "I Hate To Hate You", "What About Love", "Every Woman Is A Diva", "Opposites", and "Speak Music". CD
