Wonderful work from Tania Maria – a singer who's completely back on track these days, and really making classic work again! The format here is simple, and a return to the basics of Tania's early days – keyboards, bass, and percussion mostly in the backings, with Tania singing in that loving lyrical voice that no other singer has ever been able to match (despite legions of countless imitators!) The tunes include a lot of original numbers – really well crafted Brazilian jazz tracks that have a sound that's both light and soulful at the same time – and titles include "Sangria", "Amei Demais", "It's Only Love", "Encanto Meu", "Sebastina", "Ta Tudo Certo", and "Florzinha". Some of the earliest work ever recorded by Elis Regina – issued here on a set that brings together her first two albums in one package! The sound here is quite different than the Elis Regina sound of the 70s – a lot brighter and more youthful, without as many of the somber overtones – yet still with an undeniable charm and a sense of joy that's really amazing! Even at this young age, Elis is a tremendous interpreter of tunes – and the titles mix together bossa and pop arrangements, hitting a style that's far lighter than some of the mainstream Brazilian divas of the period. Backings are by the orchestras of Severino Filho, Renato De Oliveira, Severino Araujo, and Guerra Peixe – and the CD features 22 titles that include "Tu Seras", "Da Sorte", "Dor De Cotovelo", "Amor Amor", "Poema", "Pororo-Popo", "Confissao", "Podes Voltar", "Vou Comprar Um Coracao", and "Las Secretarias". Rosa's working here in a warm bossa-revival mode – singing and playing acoustic guitar mostly in a smaller group setting, but occasionally working with larger, lusher arrangements – in a sweet set of tracks that's both a tribute and a sequel to Joao Gilberto's legendary 1977 album Amoroso! Players on the set include saxophonist Rodrigo Ursaia, and pianist Helio Alves – whose gentle keys makes for a great accompaniment to Rosa's mellow take on the tunes. Titles include "Wave", "Besame Mucho", "Voice Vai Ver", "Essa E Pro Joao", "S'Wonderful", "Que Reste-t-il De Nos Amours", "Eu Sambo Mesmo", and "O Pato". CD

A record that's quite possibly most great for its guest stars – thanks to some excellent performances from Seu Jorge, Joao Donato, and others! Marcelinho Da Lua is fine on his own – a Brazilian producer working his interpretation of beats and rhythms borrowed from a variety of global sources – but the best sound of the record comes through the presence of key guests who transform the sound of each tune, and really mark out a space for themselves on the set. Seu Jorge does an incredible job on the track "Cotidiano" – scatting along with his guitar in a fury that matches any of his best work under his own name. And Joao Donato recalls his days on the 60s New York Latin scene, playing hard-edged acoustic piano on the track "La For a" – a really refreshing change from any of his recent bossa revival work! Other tracks include "Pro Marcelinho Tocar" with Roberto Menescal, "Refazenda" with Mart'Nalia, "Que Cosa Fuera" with Jota Moraes on vibes, "Cristiania 71" with Helen Calaca, and "Tranquilo" with Black Alien & Bi Ribeiro.
