Os MutantesEverything Is Possible! – Best Of Os Mutantes ... LP
Luaka Bop, Late 60s/Early 70s. Very Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
An essential introduction to the work of this legendary group – an important American issue of some of their best material – all of which never came out in our market back in the day! If you don't know Os Mutantes, prepare to be blown away – as they were a key part of the Tropicalia movement, alongside bigger names Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, and Gilberto Gil – creating music that was years ahead of its time, but which has gone on to become legendary over the years! There's so many different elements going on here, it's impossible to pin down – avant and psychedelic modes, Brazilian styles and postmodern ones, all put together with sublime production that's also way ahead of the pack! This Luaka Bop presentation was put together by David Byrne – and it features a total of 14 cuts in all – including an English and Portuguese reading of the famous "Baby", plus the tunes "Ave Lucifer", "Desculpe, Babe", "Adeus Maria Fulo", "Panis Et Circensis", "Bat Macumba", "Dia 36", and "Fuga No II". VariousBeleza Tropical 2 – Brazil Classics (colored vinyl pressing) ... LP
Luaka Bop, Late 90s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $21.99 22.99
David Byrne waited a full decade before giving the world a follow up to his original Beleza Tropical collection of funky Brazilian music – yet during that time, it's also clear that he learned a lot more about the scene – and was able to pick up on some very hip artists who were much more contemporary than the first time around! The record has a fair bit of late 90s gems from a time when Brazilian music was really catching fire again – inspired both by its own experiments of the past, and new attention to its more groundbreaking styles by artists up north – which then seemed to let loose a new era of fresh sounds and styles! The set's got a total of 15 tracks in all – and titles include "O Seu Olhar" by Arnaldo Antunes, "Coriosidade" by Tom Ze, "Tanacara" by Gonzaguinha, "Balanca Pema" by Marisa Monte, "Acho" by Carlos Carega, "Bog La Bog" by Carlinhos Brown, "Pregoes Do Rio" by Moleque De Rua, "Batuque" by Daniela Mercury, "Hoje Eu Quero Sair So" by Lenine, and "Rios, Pontes, & Overdrives" by Chico Science. ✨✧ Joao GilbertoLive In Montreux ... CD
Elektra, 1987. Used ... Out Of Stock
A later album by Joao – but a really lovely live performance that sparkles with the warmth and intimacy of his earlier studio albums! The album's got a total of 13 tracks, all recorded at the Montreux jazz festival in 1985 – with no backing for Joao's voice other than his light lively acoustic guitar, which holds up extremely well over the nearly 70-minute long performance. Titles include "Estate", "Menino Do Rio", "Adeus America", "Rosa Morena", "Sandalia De Prata", and "Sem Compromiso". CD

Elenco/Midi (Japan), 1964. Used ... Out Of Stock
Antonio Carlos Jobim's classic Verve session from 1963 – a tremendous record, done with a wonderful airy sound that became the trademark for bossa production in America – and which also had a great inspiration on the sound of mid 60s bossa in Brazil! Claus Ogerman arranged and conducts the orchestra, and Jobim plays guitar and piano – with a core group that also features Jimmy Cleveland on trombone and Leo Wright on flute, both American jazz players who help add some further complexities to the sound. Also includes a lot of bonus tracks – a total of 28 titles in all! CD

✨✧ Antonio Carlos JobimMan From Ipanema ... CD
Verve, 1960s/1970s/1980s. Used 3 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A beautiful package – as beautiful as the music of Jobim, and one of the true fitting tributes to his genius! The set is a retrospective of the work of Antonio Carlos Jobim – and it features tracks that stretch back to his early recordings for Verve, CTI, and Philips (from both the US and Brazil), work he did with other artists (including Astrud Gilberto, Stan Getz, and Elis Regina), and even recent work recorded slightly before his death. The booklet is every bit as beautiful as the music – an origami-like affair, with paper and plastic folding out to reveal some great notes and biographical information on Jobim, offering one of the coolest packages you've ever seen to hold the set's 3 CDs! Titles include "Wave", "Waters Of March", "Agua De Beber", "Bonita", "Photograph", "Dreamer", and so much more – and there's a total of 55 songs packaged with the 60 page booklet! CD
