Jazzy, scatting, and wonderful! Jazzinho firmly carry the torch of 70s Brazilian jazz – picking up the sound that the music had just as it started to spill into European and American scenes, with bossa nova at the core, but lots of nice electric touches on the top! The group features some wonderful female lead vocals – very breezy, with a warm and sunny finish that really gives the record a wonderful feel. Instrumentation is strongly jazzy – not just beats and tricks – and honestly, the album's got a really solid 70s feel that makes us love it to death! Titles include "Vertigo", "Velejou", "Astral", "Yambou", "Sim Ou Nao", "Camponesa", and "Constelacao". This edition of the CD features four bonus remixes – "Sim Ou Nao" by Sleepwalker, "Constelacao" by Quant, "Sim Ou Nao by Eddy & Dus and "Yambou" by Phil Asher! (New Grooves, Brazil)CD
A fantastic collection of work by one of Brazil's greatest arrangers ever! Moacir Santos had an approach that was unlike anyone else – more complicated than Jobim, but with a gentle honesty that made any style sound spontaneous in his hands. The 2CD package features new versions of work from a number of different rare albums by Santos – including long out of print 60s sessions, his few Blue Note sides, and a few newer sets – and the sound of the album is very much in the vein of Santos' best moments from the 70s. Guest on the sessions include Ed Motta, Joyce, Milton Nascimento, and Joao Donato – and the quality of the work is impeccable, truly one of the greatest new releases we've heard from Brazil in years! Titles include "Coisa No 6", "Kathy", "De Repente, Estou Feliz", "Anon", "Coisa No 10", "Lamento Astral", "Marcatu, Nacao Do Amor", "Suk Cha", and "Bluishmen". 2CDs – and a great booklet too! CD
An early album by this groovy Brazilian rock group that featured Ney Matogrosso on vocals! The record has a haunting sound that mixes nice vocal production with spare arrangements supported by guitar, piano, and bass. The sound is difficult to describe – but the record has some extremely compelling songwriting, and great vocal work that carries the strength of the tracks, whether or not you understand Portuguese. Titles include "Flores Astrais", "Nao Nao Digas Nada", "Tercer Mundo", "Angustia", "O Doce E O Amargo", and "Delirio". LP, Vinyl record album
