✨✧ Gilberto GilRefavela (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Philips/Polysom (Brazil), 1977. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of the funkiest albums ever from Gilberto Gil – a set that beautifully mixes rootsy elements with tighter funk arrangements – in a style that's not unlike some of the 70s samba soul experiments from Jorge Ben! The record borrows heavily from American funk and soul of the time, and takes Gil's tight songwriting and infuses it with an even catchier edge than ever before – really creating a fantastic groove that seems to illuminate Gilberto's lyrics even more than before – with a sense of personality and joy that really comes through, even beyond the barriers of language! The whole thing's wonderful – tight, but never overproduced – and very individual, despite an influence from American soul music. Titles include "Rafavela", "Aqui E Agora", "Ile Aye", "Baba Alapala", "Era Nova", "Samba Do Aviao", and "Balafon". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Egberto GismontiNo Caipira ... LP
Odeon/EMI (Brazil), 1978. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of Egberto Gismonti's fantastic records from the seventies, and is waaaay better than anything he did for an American label. It's a wild mix of strident jazz and odd "experimental" moments, with a lot of joy and a lot of wonderful emotions running through all the tracks. The album's filled with baroque arrangements, cool keyboards, and lots of Gismonti's haunting compositions! Titles include "Frevo", "Cancao Da Espera", "Selva Amazonica", "Saudacoes", and "Maracatu". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Includes the textured inner sleeve. Cover has light ringwear, sticker spot, and is lightly bent at the edges.)

✨✧ Elis ReginaNada Sera Como Antes – Elis Interpreta Milton Nascimento ... LP
Philips (Brazil), Late 60s/1970s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Beautiful versions of some of Milton Nasimento's best songs – sung by one of the greatest voices in Brazil, suitably backed by arrangements that bring out all the warmth and joy of the compositions. The tracks are pulled from different recordings by Elis, over the years 1966 to 1979, but the sound is remarkably consistent despite the range of years – and the album is both one of Elis' best later ones, and a great introduction to Nascimento's writing. Titles include "Vera Cruz", "Cancao Do Sal", "Nada Sera Como Antes", "Cais", "Credo", and "Conversando No Bar". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Elis ReginaViva A Brotolandia/Poema De Amor ... CD
El (UK), 1961/1962. Used ... Out Of Stock
Some of the earliest work ever recorded by Elis Regina – issued here on a set that brings together her first two albums in one package! The sound here is quite different than the Elis Regina sound of the 70s – a lot brighter and more youthful, without as many of the somber overtones – yet still with an undeniable charm and a sense of joy that's really amazing! Even at this young age, Elis is a tremendous interpreter of tunes – and the titles mix together bossa and pop arrangements, hitting a style that's far lighter than some of the mainstream Brazilian divas of the period. Backings are by the orchestras of Severino Filho, Renato De Oliveira, Severino Araujo, and Guerra Peixe – and the CD features 22 titles that include "Tu Seras", "Da Sorte", "Dor De Cotovelo", "Amor Amor", "Poema", "Pororo-Popo", "Confissao", "Podes Voltar", "Vou Comprar Um Coracao", and "Las Secretarias".
