Killer King Records material from Freddy King – the man who was instrumental in helping forge the early sound of funk guitar! Set features two full albums – both great! CD
Killer early material from Freddy King – a blues album, but one that's also got a strong resonance with instrumental soul and early funk! The record is "Strictly Instrumental" – as the cover says – and a nice batch of short bluesy groovers that feature Freddy's great guitar work! Freddie was way more than just a blues guitarist, as his style here was a definite precursor to funk – hard, heavy, and with the kinds of little tricks that would be taken up a lot by other players in the funky 45 era. Tracks are all nice, and titles include "San Ho Zay", "Side Tracked", "Wash Out", "In The Open", "Heads Up", "Just Pickin", and "Swooshy". CD
Music from the Vels, the Veletones, the Jivers, the Four Tunes, the V8's, the Elegants, the Orients, the Chestnuts, the Willows, the Cadillacs, the Volumes, and more – 30 tracks total. (Soul, Blues)CD
A very cool oversized package of rare 78rpm material – with an excellent Robert Crumb cover! Music from Freeny's Barn Dance Band, Son House, Ernest Phipps, Memphis Minnie, Tommy Johnson, Three Stripped Gears, the Kentucky Ramblers, Amedie Ardoin, Yank Rachelm, Asa Martin, Blind Roosevelt Graves, Ken Maynard & more. CD
(In nice shape!)
