✨✧ Ivory Joe HunterIvory Joe Sings The Old & The New ... LP
Atlantic, Late 50s. Very Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
A fantastic Atlantic album from the great Ivory Joe Hunter – much more obsure than his "Rock & Roll" album for the label, and maybe even a bit more mature and jazzy overall! Hunter's still got that wonderful blend of blues and country, given a sophisticated postwar polish – at a level that made him such a huge influence on 60s soul singers to come – and titles include the originals "One More Memory", "I Could Fall In Love With You", "To Lose You", and "Someone" – plus versions of "I'll Be Faithful", "Worried Mind", and "There Goes My Heart". (Soul, Blues) LP, Vinyl record album
(Black label pressing with deep groove – a nice copy! Cover has a tiny bit of seam splitting in a bottom corner, but is great overall.)

✨✧ Les McCannInvitation To Openness ... LP
Atlantic, 1972. Very Good Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Wild electric work from Les McCann – an album of free, open sounds that's quite a change from his styles of the 60s – and from most of his other work of the 70s too! Side one features an extended 26 minute track titled "The Lovers" – a slow-building number that has Les on sublime Fender Rhodes, as things build slowly with this really spiritual current that comes from the addition of Yusef Lateef on reeds, Cornell Dupree and David Spinozza on guitar, Corky Hale on harp, and both Bernard Purdie and Alphonse Mouzon on drums! The track is loose, but builds into some great funky moments – almost a keyboard version of electric Miles Davis at the time, but a lot more soulful. And side two continues the heavy keyboard vibe – with a killer remake of Les' classic "Beaux J Poo Poo" and a similar "Poo Pye McGoochie", both with the kind of choppy funky grooves Les laid down with Eddie Harris a few years prior! (Jazz, Blues) LP, Vinyl record album
(Red & green Broadway label pressing. Cover has gloss peel on both sides – mostly on the edges.)

Chuck WillisKing Of The Stroll ... LP
Atlantic, 1958. Fair ... $2.99
Chuck Willis is billed as "the king of the stroll" on the cover of this classic Atlantic album – but that title only gets at just a small part of his genius! The set's one of a rare few Chuck cut in his too-short life – and it may well be his greatest, as it's really got Willis stepping out with a strong degree of focus – on a batch of all-original tunes sung in that amazing crackling voice of his! The style is R&B, but really points the way towards soul music – thanks to a personal presentation of the music, and some deep roots that really come through in the overall sound. Titles include the classic original versions of "CC Rider" and "Betty & Dupree" – both numbers that sound better in Chuck's own hands than any later incarnations – and other titles include "That Train Is Gone", "Juanita", "It's Too Late", "My Life", "Ease The Pain", and "There's Got To Be A Way". (Soul, Blues) LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono red and purple label pressing. NOTE – Vinyl is in Fair condition. Cover has some wear and aging, split bottom seam, a name in pen on front and back, and stained and separated corners in back.)
