Cheap NastiesCheap Nasties ... LP
HoZac, 1977. Near Mint- ... $14.99
Raw and buzzing Aussie punk from Perth's Cheap Nasties! The notion of punk rock as a definable style or any kind of exacted sound was still really in an early stage worldwide as early is this incendiary record was recorded in 1977, and being from a city that's as remote as Perth in some ways – culturally and geographically – Cheap Nasties really had no peers or heroes to try and live up to, they just make a hell of a fierce, garage-y and tuneful racket. Timeless stuff! Includes "Cheap And Nasty", "Hit And Run", "Stolen Property", "You Rip Me Up", "Johnny Is A Heartbreaker", "Destroy All Planets", "Dancing", "The Face" and more. Julian LealJulian Leal (with download) ... LP
JLI/HoZac, 1985. New Copy (reissue)... $15.99 16.00
A rare, beloved gem from the midwest power pop scene – laced with catchy hooks, buzzing guitars and synthesizer that somehow sounds like it hasn't aged a day! The key to Romeoville, IL native Julian Leal's self-titled LP being such a timeless treasure is probably the same as the one that keeps the best of superstars like Cheap Trick and local faves & cult heroes like Green, Shoes, Off Broadway and later groups like Material Issue from ever getting stale. It's gotta be the razor sharp, tuneful songcraft, a prefect mix of barbed and sugary hooks. Leal's sound is unique for the scene in his use of a synthesizer alongside the guitars, and that serves the songs and sound really well, as the rawer setting doesn't date it like so many big budget studio recordings of the time. Includes "You & I", "Doing Them Wrong", "Tonight", "Dream Girl", "Catch Her Thrill", "Get Away", "Roller Skates", "Be Mine", "Again", "Sail Away", "Tomorrow" and "Mad About You". HoZac, Early 70s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $26.99
Unsung early 70s genius from Dwight Twilley & Phil Seymour – a few years earlier than their legendary power pop in the Dwight Twilley Band, and a pretty stunning batch of tightly melodic material that's just raw enough – top shelf stuff seeing proper release for the first time ever! Stunningly, these are essentially home recordings, made while they were knocking around their hometown of Tulsa in '73 & '74, but it's pretty freaking incredible how fully realized the sound and overall craft are here. This is no grainy batch of workshop material, nor does it sound like demos or aural blueprints of glories to come – it's incredibly catchy and full of great songs with killer harmonies. The best package yet in the Hozac Archival series! Includes "Love Is A Train", "Hot Ma", "Lovin' Me", "No Resistance", "Come And See Me", "Little Stars", "Didn't You", "You Can't Remember It", "Pop Bottle", "Miserable Lady", "Rock Yourself Son", "You're My Lover", "Release Me" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes download and gatefold notes.)
