✨✧ VariousBest Of Doris Wishman (with bonus DVD) ... LP
Something Weird/Modern Harmonic, 1960s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A weird and wild collection of work that once graced the films of Doris Wishman – dubbed in the notes as the "pint-sized sleaze queen" of 60s nudist films – with an underground legacy that finally gets its due in this very cool package! The audio component is a mix of film trailers, soundtrack material, and groovy tunes from Fishman's increasingly sexy movies – vocal numbers that often have a fair bit of wit in the lyrics along with the sleaze! There's also some snippets from the films too – and the mix of music and spoken bits is great – served up with tunes that include "Sun Lovers Waltz", "Going Back To Nature", "Moon Doll", "Hideout Theme", "Hard Selling Woman", "Sun Lovers Blues", and "The Moon Is The Lamp Of Love" – and trailers from films that include "My Brother's Wife", "Another Day Another Man", "Double Agent 73", "Keyholes Are For Peeping", "Blaze Starr Goes Nudist", and "Nude On The Moon". DVD features lots of snippets of the same – a lurid array of the weird and wonderful sexploitation work of the 60s and 70s underground! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Marianne FaithfullFaithfull Forever (clear vinyl pressing) ... LP
London/Craft, Mid 1960s. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The wonderful voice of Marianne Faithfull in all its 60s glory – set up here with sublime arrangements from Mike Leander, in a style that's unlike just about anything else we can think of! Marianne's got a bit of a trill – as you might hear in female folk singers of the decade – but the overall presentation is something completely different altogether – kind of a dark recasting of the usual pop modes you might hear from Leander, with all these blue undertones and weird intonations that kind of point the way towards moodier female singers to come at the end of the 60s – but still with enough ties to the mainstream to make Faithfull's music even more powerful! The balance is hard to describe in words, but hits you right away from the very first note – and titles include "Counting", "Ne Me Quitte Pas", "In The Night Time", "Tomorrow's Calling", "With You In Mind", "I'm The Sky", "Lucky Girl", and "I Have A Love". ✨✧ Yusef LateefLive At Pep's (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Impulse/Elemental (Spain), 1964. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of the greatest albums ever recorded by the mighty Yusef Lateef – and that's really saying a lot, given his fantastic legacy of albums! The set's a live one, which is a bit unusual in Lateef's catalog at this time – and the concert setting is perhaps a window onto some of his more expressive, experimental modes that didn't always show up on record, especially the Impulse studio sides he was recording at the time. Lateef's group is pure genius – with a young Mike Nock on piano, sounding all weird and dark, with amazing tones from his instrument – plus the great Richard Williams on trumpet, a player who always seems to bring something special to a record! The team of Ernie Farrow on bass and James Black on drums help create all these modal rhythms that are really fantastic – and Lateef himself blows tenor and flute, plus the more exotic reed instruments argol and shanai. Titles include "The Magnolia Triangle", "Sister Mamie", "Number 7", "The Weaver", and "Slippin' & Slidin'". LP, Vinyl record album

Speed, Glue & ShinkiSpeed, Glue & Shinki ... LP
Warner/Lawson (Japan), 1972. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... $49.99 69.99
A hell of a record from a Japanese band who answered to nobody else – a combo who could come on with the ferocity of James Gang or some of their contemporaries, but also hit some even wilder, more experimental moments too – something they definitely do here in the space of the double-length of the album – which mixes full-on jammers full of fuzz and bluesy riffs with some of the weirder moments you might find on the farther reaches of The Beatles' White Album! Vocals are all in English, and given that the album was issued on Atlantic, we're not sure why they never tried to push these guys bigger in the states – as they're better than most of the rest of the period. Titles include "Sniffin & Snortin", "Run And Hide", "Bad Woman", "Red Doll", "Flat Fret Swing", "Calm Down", "Search For Love", "Wanna Take You You", and "Song For An Angel". LP, Vinyl record album
(Great 2LP reissue – with the paper wraparound image of the original!)
