A wonderful tribute to Baden Powell – not only musically, but visually as well! The set contains a 12 page booklet that's filled with writings on Powell's work & other Brazilian musicians in the series, plus some excellent color photos from the 1960s. The record contains some of Baden's greatest tracks, played by him and other Brazilian greats. Titles include "Consolacao" by Tamba Trio, "Lapinha" & "Canto De Ossanha" by Elis Regina, "Samba Triste" by Lucio Alves, "Tem Do" by OsCariocas, "Samba Em Preludio" by Geraldo Vandre E Ana Lucia, and "Astronauta" and "Berimbau" by Baden Powell. New recordings of bossa classics – done in a sparkling modern style, but still with a relatively classic groove. Roberto Menescal arranged most of the tracks, and also plays guitar on many numbers – and performers include Marcos Valle, Claudette Soares, Leny Andrade, Cladia Telles, Tito Madi, OsCariocas, and Carlos Lyra. Includes "Samba De Aviao", "Pode Ir", "Samba De Verao", "Nos E O Mar", "O Barquihno", "Chega De Saudade", and "Lobo Bobo". Nice stuff, and kind of in the Lumiar vein. CD
A rare Brazilian soundtrack on Som Livre – one that features work recorded for this story set in the 50s, which gives most of the tracks a rock n roll-ish kind of sound, a bit like the jovem guarda work coming out of Brazil in the 60s. A few titles are covers of American pop or rock tunes – and there's a few bossa ditties thrown on the end to even things out a bit. Titles include "Ela E Carioca" by OsCariocas, "Bata Baby" by Wilson Miranda, "Tete" by Silvinha Telles, "Sereno" by Paulo Molin, "Banho De Lua" by Celly Campello, "Broto Legal" by Sergio Murilo, "Meu Mundo Caiu" by Maysa, and "Quem E?" by Osmar Navarro. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has clear tape on the bottom seam, light surface wear & aging, a bit of pen on the back.)
A wonderful package of rare bossa work! The set is a great tribute to the composers mentioned above – and it features some of their best songs in classic renditions, packaged in a cover with an 8 page booklet that's filled with great photos and writings in Portuguese. Titles include "O Barquinho" by Pery Ribero, "Fim De Noite" by Coral De Ouro Preto, "Marcha Da Quarta-Feira De Cinzas" by Elis Regina, "Maria Moita" by Nara Leao, "A Morte De Um Deus De Sal" by Roberto Menescal, "Pau De Arara" by Ary Toledo, "Telefone" by OsCariocas, and "Invluencia Do Jazz" by Carlos Lyra. LP, Vinyl record album
Later performances of compositions by this classic Brazilian songwriter – with Joel De Almeida, Elizeth Cardoso, Maria Creuza, OsCariocas, Nara Leao, Angela Maria, Toquinho, and Marilia Medalha. LP, Vinyl record album
14 classics from the Caymmi songbook – sung by himself, and artists who include Gal Costa, Nana Caymmi, Sylvia Telles, OsCariocas, MPB4, and Elis Regina! CD
A great set of material by Brazilian poet and diplomat Vinicius De Moraes – pulled from records he cut in conjunction with Nara Leao, OsCariocas, Angela Maria, Maria Creuza, Toquinho, and others. The set's a great way to get some of Vinicius' best numbers on vinyl – and very nicely put together, like all the other titles in this series! 8 numbers in all, including "Samba De Bencao", "Valsa De Euridice", "Insemsatez", "Rancho Das Namoradas", "Serenata Do Adeus", and "Loura Ou Morena". Features a 10" LP and booklet – and the booklet's filled with nice notes and some excellent photos! LP, Vinyl record album
A recent live set that brings together classic singers and musicians from the 60s, recreating some of their strongest bossa nova work! Marcos Valle performs "Os Grilos", "Gente", and "Terra De Ninguem"; Leny Andrade sings "Wave", "Rio", and "Samba Da Pergunta"; Zimbo trio play "Garota De Ipanema", "A Felicidade", and "Nos E O Mar"; OsCariocas harmonize on "Samba Do Aviao" and "Tim Tim Por Tim Tim", and Roberto Menescal duet on "Samba De Verao", "So Danco Samba", and "O Pato". CD
A cool 60s collection – with killer Philips material from Jorge Ben, Nara Leao, Tamba Trio, Os Gatos, Elis Regina, Geraldo Vandre, Taiguara, OsCariocas, and others! LP, Vinyl record album
A gem of a record from the lovely Joyce – a set recorded during the same key stretch as her early 80s albums for EMI – yet much more obscure! The album's got the same brilliant blend of jazz and bossa phrasing as her classics Agua E Luz and Feminina – and really brings Joyce's beautiful vocals to the forefront, with a strong focus on that fluid, jazzy style we totally love! Acoustic guitar is key to the instrumentation, yet there's also a few electric touches on keyboards – yet used quite softly, so that the presence of Joyce really dominates the record – but with a power that's greater than some of her more solo sets. Wonderful throughout –a nd with cuts that include "Nacional Kid", "Curioso", "Baracumbarra", "Tardes Cariocas", "Luz Do Chao", and "Ela". CD
