ErrollGarner —
Dreamstreet ... LP ABC/Octave, 1961. Very Good ...

Garner grooves nicely here – finding an almost renewed energy for the 60s, but still hitting all those highly-rhythmic modes we love so much in his early work! The recording quality is great – lots of bold echo from the piano, and even a bit of Erroll's grunting vocalizations somewhere in the mix – kind of an extra added emphasis that sounds great next to the bass of Eddie Calhoun and drums of Kelly Martin. Titles include "Just One Of Those Things", "Blue Lou", "The Lady Is A Tramp", "Dreamstreet", and the groovy "Mambo Gotham" – an especially jaunty little number! LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono black label pressing. Cover has light wear & aging.)
Pure and simple pianistics from the great ErrollGarner – an album built around his famous composition "Misty", and featuring a number of other tunes played with equally fragile beauty. You may think you've got Garner pegged, but there's a quality to this work that really haunts us – a mixed-up, chopped-up rhythm that seems to give even familiar songs a dark, moody quality that completely transforms them. Titles include "That Old Feeling", "Where Or When", "Again", "Frantenality", "What Is This Thing Called Love", and "Exactly Like You". LP, Vinyl record album
Rare early work for Savoy Records – originally 78rpm material, compiled here into a full album! Titles include "I Cover The Waterfront", "Love Walked In", "Indiana", "Somebody Loves Me", "Penthouse Serenade", "Undecided", "Red Sails In The Sunset", and "More Than You Know". LP, Vinyl record album
A collection of the great early Savoy material recorded by ErrollGarner! Titles include "Moonglow", "Laura", "This Can't Be Love", "She's Funny That Way", "I Surrender Dear", "Stormy Weather", and "All Of Me". LP, Vinyl record album

A set with an ambitious title, but a nicely earthy feel – a live recording that features ErrollGarner's trio with Eddie Calhoun on bass and Kelly Martin on drums – stretching out strongly in front of a live audience – recorded live at the Seattle World's Fair, but with a vibe that's maybe more in keeping from some great small club performance by the trio! Titles include "Mack The Knife", "Misty", "Dancing Tambourine", "Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe", and "Sweet & Lovely". LP, Vinyl record album
(Tri-color stereo pressing with deep groove. Includes the Reprise inner sleeve. Cover is bent a bit at the bottom right corner.)
ErrollGarner —
Soliloquy ... LP Columbia, 1957. Very Good+ ...

A very personal album from ErrollGarner, as you might guess from the title – a set of solo piano numbers delivered with an even deeper sense of lyricism than usual! Garner's still got a bit of his trademark sense of rhythm here, but he also works with a more powerful sense of flow – as he mixes tuneful melodies with his own sublime improvisations, often in a way that's surprisingly gentle, and completely sublime. A few numbers still have that bouncing, cutting groove that made Garner stand out from the start – but the mellower numbers are the real winners here, in a completely different way. Titles include "No More Time", "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To", "I Surrender Dear", "If I Had You", and "Don't Take Your Love From Me". LP, Vinyl record album
Titles include "The Grind (parts 1 & 2)", "Across Town", and "Little Girl". LP, Vinyl record album
(Early 60s issue. Cover has some wear and aging, bent corners, clear tape holding the top seam, and masking tape at the centers of the seams and spine.)

Rare pre-Verve material from the great Oscar Peterson – a host of early tracks recorded for RCA in the 50s! If you think that Peterson only emerged fully-formed in the hands of Norman Granz during the 50s, then think again – because this work really shows a young player already hitting tremendous heights – full, fluid, and very commanding – at a level that's kind of a rougher around the edges version of his Verve years – but in a great way! Peterson echoes some of his predecessors a bit – and you can hear a bit more proximity to ErrollGarner or Eddie Heywood in the way he embraces the rhythms with his solos – but the overall presentation is still pure Oscar. Titles include "China Boy", "I Got Rhythm", "My Blue Heaven", "Honeydripper", "Humoresque", and "The Sheik Of Araby". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some light wear and yellowing from age, ink stamp on back.)
