Al CohnMr Music (3 x 7 inch EP) ... 7-inch
RCA, 1954. Near Mint- Gatefold (pic cover)... $9.99
A tight little record – with a strong focus on Al Cohn's solo work! Al's the lead soloist in a number of largish groups that are often tightly arranged, but which let the leader break out nicely – cutting with an edge on his tenor that's sometimes even sharper than usual. Cohn handled most of the arrangements – but a few are by Johnny Carisi, Ralph Burns, or Manny Albam –a nd players include Joe Newman on trumpet, Billy Byaers and Frank Rehak on trombone, Gene Quill on alto, and Jimmy Raney on guitar. Proceedings are tight, but never too uptight – and titles include "Cabin In The Sky", "Lullaby Of Birdland", "This Reminds Me Of You", "Move", "Cohn My Way", "La Ronde", and "Never Never Land". (Funky 45's, Jazz) 7-inch, Vinyl record

RCA, Late 50s. Near Mint- (pic cover)... $9.99
The Natural Seven is Al's septet that features Joe Newman, Frank Rehack, Freddie Green, Milt Hinton, Nat Pierce, and Osie Johnson. The group grooves in the usual tightly arranged Cohn style, with lots of ensemble playing, and some short clipped solos. Titles include "The Natural Thing To Do", "A.C. Meets Osie", "Baby Please", "Pick A Dilly", and "Count Me In". (Funky 45's, Jazz) 7-inch, Vinyl record

Nick Travis QuintetPanic Is On (3 x 7 inch EP) ... 7-inch
RCA, Mid 50s. Near Mint- (pic cover)... $9.99
No panic here – just tightly-crafted jazz, and one of the better RCA small combo sessions of the 50's! Trumpeter Nick Travis leads the group in that well-honed style that RCA was carving at the time – work that was as arranged as much of the recordings coming out of the west coast, but with a bit of a freer edge on the solo work. The group's pretty great overall – with Al Cohn on tenor, Johnny Williams on piano, Teddy Kotick on bass, and Art Mardigan on drums – and titles include "Nick's Knacks", "Jazzbo's Jaunt", "In the Nick Of Time", and "Cohn Pone". (Funky 45's, Jazz) 7-inch, Vinyl record
