VariousDisco Giants Volume 12 – 20 Full Length Disco Classics Of The 80s ... CD
Vinyl Masterpiece (Netherlands), Mid 80s. New Copy 2 CDs ... $22.99
A tightly grooving batch of dancefloor soul sounds from the 1980s – not the textbook disco you might expect from the title alone, but a double strength set of classic level groovers by BB & Q Band, Cheryl Lynn, Cashmere, Georgio, Glenn Jones and many more! Lean funky rhythms, some great little electro, boogie era production touches and other pivotal elements from the era, but with fresh soul vocals and soaring spirit, no doubt inspired by proper disco – and nice stuff from beginning to end! 2CDs with 10 full length jams each – including "All Night Long (She's Got The Moves I Live)" by BB & Q Band, "Lover's Lane" by Giorgio, "Not Tonight" by Junior, "Nail It To The Wall" by Stacy Lattisaw, "I Can't Lose With The Stuff I Use" by Khemistry, "Shake It Up Tonight" by Cheryl Lynn, "Shadows Of The Night" by Blue Feather, "Let The Music Turn You On" by Cashmere, "Funky Little Beat" by Connie and more. VariousMasterpiece Volume 21 – The Ultimate Disco Funk Collection ... CD
PTG (Netherlands), Early 80s. New Copy ... $18.99
Modern club masterpieces – all served up in this long-running series of high-quality 80s soul! The music here is a mix of modern soul, 80s groove, and some cool post-disco styles – and most cuts are in a relatively professional, polished mode – yet still come across with a vibe that's nicely different from the big chart hits of the time! The PTG/Vinyl Masterpiece label has been reissuing great 80s material for many years – and they really show their best side on collections like this – as you'll hear on tracks that include "It's Your Turn To Cry" by Cornelius Oliphant, "What You Want" by Platinum Hook, "If You Want My Love" by Shakatak, "Last Chance" by Splashband, "We're Here To Rock You" by Galaxxy, "Yellow Pages" by General Caine, "Twennynine (the rap)" by Twennynine with Lenny White, "Never Take Your Love Away" by Future Image, "You Got Me Where I Want To Be" by Sarhon Brown, and "I'll Be There" by Terri Wells. VariousNighttime Lovers Vol 21 – A Fine Collection Of Disco Funk Classics Of The 80s ... CD
PTG (Netherlands), Early 80s. New Copy ... $18.99
Keep the party going all night long – with another great set of grooves from this long-running series! The music here is similar to the other collections on the PTG/Vinyl Masterpiece label – a strong focus in the best sounds of the 80s – not the underground work or indie sides – but overlooked soul and club cuts that were bubbling under in the mainstream at the time – and which are wonderfully revived here! Titles include "Celebrate Your Love" by Executive, "In The Night (ext version)" by Richard Jon Smith, "Just In Time" by Raw Silk, "Make Up Your Mind" by Val Young, "Stop Playin With My Love" by Steve Drayton, "Let Me Hold You" by Sonique, "Pick Me Up" by Electric Mind, "My Love Is Hot" by Cool Notes, and "Don't Give Me Up" by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. VariousMasterpieces Of Modern Soul (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Kent (UK), 1970s. New Copy ... $16.99
Ultra-hip soul from the 70s – a brilliant collection of underground tunes that represents some of the best of the decade's indie scene! The title says "modern", but the groove here is also pretty darn deep – as many of the tracks on the set have nice touches of southern soul, despite the smoother 70s production overall. Vocals are extremely heartfelt, and most tracks are in a mellow or midtempo pace – making for a really wonderful batch of tunes that moves away from the more uptempo and clubby sounds you might hear on other modern soul compilations. This special LP pressing brings together tracks from the CD series – a number of which were never issued on vinyl, even back in the day – and two unreleased tracks appear here for the first time ever! Titles include "Gotta Be Loved (part 2)" by Herman Davis, "Never Felt This Way Before" by The New Experience, "Go Away" by The Hestitations, "Momma Had A Baby" by Street People, "Do You Really Love Me" by Darondo, "I Don't Play Games" by Nightchill, "Just A Little Ugly" by Gail Anderson, "It's The Same Old Story" by Act 1, "Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right" by The Mayberry Movement, "Shake Off That Dream" by Eddie Billups & The CCCs, and "If There Were No You" by The Natural Resources.
