✨✧ Benny SingsCity Pop ... LP
Stones Throw, 2019. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
We've loved the music of Benny Sings for years – and can't understand why the man's not a much bigger success at a worldwide level – because his songs have the gentle soul and careful construction of the sorts of music that used to grace the airwaves decades back! Yet maybe the obscurity is always what makes Benny so great – as the songs here feel like lost AOR gems from a time when folks really knew how to make a record – but also sifted down to a core approach that never lets things get too overly-polished or commercial – kind of that modern love of classic modes that we also find in the music of Ed Motta, even though Ed's a very different singer overall. Titles include "Familiar", "Not Enough", "Duplicate", "Dreamin", "Summerlude", "Everything I Know", and "Nakameguro". (Neo Soul, New Grooves) LP, Vinyl record album

Diogo StrauszSamba From Outer Space ... LP
Goutte D'Or (France), 2024. New Copy ... $23.99 26.99
We're not sure if the music here actually came from outer space – but the tunes definitely have a cosmic connection in the way they mix together so many groovy modes at once! The core energy comes from a love of 80s groove – particularly basslines, beats, and keyboards from the earlier part of the decade – but Diogo Strausz hails from Brazil, and brings in some music from his own culture as well, plus bits of Afro Funk and house – all of which makes for some mighty fresh tracks throughout! Titles include "Flexivel", "Dans Une Langue", "Junto De Nos", "Samba From Outer Space", "La Forme D'Un Grand Coeur", and "Why Can't We Be Together". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousGilles Peterson – Worldwide Programme 1 (3LP set) ... LP
Talkin' Loud (France), 2000. Near Mint- 3LPs ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The greatest DJ in the world spins live in a wonderful set of grooves that perfectly displays Petersen's huge rep as a genre-bending DJ! The set features unmixed tracks on 3LPs – and it blows away any expectations you'd have about the way genres should be put together, running through a stunning mix that includes funk, dub, Brazilian, jazz, jungle, and a heck of a lot more. Sounds like a mess, but the magical Mr P makes everything come out sparkly white in the wash – which is why he's still numero uno in our book! Titles include "The Ghetto/El Barrio" by George Benson, "Slowly Surely" by Jill Scott, "All I Have In Me (Original Musiquarium Mix)" by Young Disciples, "Manhood" by Vikter Duplaix, "Black Mary" by Pariss Clemons, "Waltz For Koop" by Koop, "Mystery Of Man" by Sarah Vaughan, and "Roun Soun" by Spacek. 14 tracks on 3LPs. (Funky Compilations, New Grooves) LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeves – and a great copy!)
