The first album by this hip New York collective that lies somewhere at the crossroads between black rock, jamband, and avant modern orchestration – featuring a lineup conducted by Greg Tate, no less! The album notes begin with the sentence "So this is our Bitches Brew" – and we'd be hard pressed to think of a better way to describe the dark and searching mass of sound that is Burnt Sugar – except to tell you that there's no trumpet, and a heck of a lot of guitar! Titles include "A Blood Sample From Errol Garner", "Steals A Kiss From The Merman", "Beloved", "Blood On The Leaf", "Sirens Of Triton", "The Third Bleed", and "Spartacus Free The Slaves".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Now Again, 2004. Used

Friday Afternoon In The Universe
Ryko/Gramavision, 1995. Used
The second Gramavision album by MM&W, and a batch of grooves that shows them opening up their style a lot more than on their first one. There's equal parts of Larry Young and Jimmy McGriff mixed into the organ here, and the rhythm, while tight, is also got a nice open-ended feel. Titles ... CD
