One of the more righteous albums from the early years of Diana Ross' solo career – a set that really has her moving past the familiar Motown groove of previous years, into a vibe that really shows the label's new California influence! The tracks here often feature expansive arrangements that mix soul and larger orchestrations – arranged by Gene Page, James Carmichael, Gil Askey, and Michael Randall – all of whom preserve the class that Diana's always had in her music, while still also opening things up to some of the more thoughtful elements of 70s soul. The album includes a nice medley of Oscar Brown Jr's "Brown Baby" and Marvin Gaye's "Save The Children", plus a version of "Imagine", and the tracks "Leave A Little Room", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "All Of My Life", and "Touch Me In The Morning". (Canadian pressing. Cover has an unglued bottom seam.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Eaten Alive
RCA, 1985. Very Good
Michael Jackson gave Diana Ross the big title hit for this set – a track that also features his own guest vocals too – but most of the record was handled strongly by Barry Gibb, who not only co-produced the set, but wrote most of the material as well! A surprising hit for Diana Ross – a record that really helped the singer shine brightly in the 80s, but with a vibe that's quite different than her years at Motown! Got To Be There
Motown, 1971. Good
Early Michael Jackson at his best – a brilliant solo album that sparkles with honest warmth and sweet soul energy! A 2 LP career retrospective of Marvin Gaye's recordings with Motown – one that doesn't try to be a greatest hits or fully comprehensive – but rather dedicates a side of each LP to different themes as approached by Marvin! Side 1 is subtitled "Crossroads" and features "Aft ... LP, Vinyl record album

At the beginning of the 70s, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles parted company – and while to some, it might have looked like the group would flounder without the help of their famous leader, The Miracles hit the 70s wonderfully, and continued to grow tremendously as a group! Excellent mid 70s work from Smokey, recorded right before his landmark Quiet Storm album, and in a smooth sophisticated style that showed that he was definitely on the right track after splitting from the Miracles! A testament as to how many hits the Jacksons produced in a short amount of time – this Greatest Hits was compiled only three years after the group's first record was released. A polished 80s effort from Debarge, with a number of pretty big hits for the group. Not too long ago we might have ignored this record, but with a little more age on them, these 80s pop soul efforts are going down a lot more easily for us.
