Silver ConventionSilver Convention (Midland) ... LP
Midland, 1976. Near Mint- ... $4.99
A smash hit from Silver Convention – thanks to the dark pop disco hit "Get Up & Boogie", the leadoff tune on this surprisingly strong set! The strength of the album really comes from the masterful blend of strings, beats, and piano from arranger/producer/keyboardist Silvester Levay – who manages to keep a lot of space in the grooves, and create a sense of darkness in places you wouldn't expect – almost a coldness that predates the European dancefloor sound of the 80s, and warmed up nicely by the trio of ladies singing lead vocals. Titles include "Get Up & Boogie", "Play Me Like A Yo Yo", "No No Joe", "Old Wine In New Bottles", "Thank You Mr DJ", and "You Turned Me On By You Can't Turn Me Off". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

Silver ConventionMadhouse ... CD
Midland/Goodtime, 1976. New Copy ... $13.99 14.99
The Silver Convention groove is nicely opening up on this set – with an approach that actually seems a bit jazzier than the group's first two albums, bringing more of a focus on the keyboards of Silvester Levay – who's really the brainchild behind the whole group anyway! At some level, Levay seems to be more influenced by the best American club work of the time – especially the Salsoul records that just kept on getting better and better, deeper and deeper with each year. The orchestrations have a bit more soul than before, and mix nicely with the group's trademark Euro-disco sound. Levay wrote all the music on the set, co-produced, and arranged – and his well crafted keyboard lines are the brightest spots in the whole set. Titles include "I'm Not A Slot Machine", "The World Is A Madhouse", "Plastic People", "Fancy Party", "Everybody's Talkin About Love", "Dancing In The Aisle", and "Land Of Make Believe". CD
(On-demand pressing.)

Silver ConventionSave Me ... LP
Midland, 1975. Very Good+ ... $1.99
A huge breakout moment for disco in the 70s – the first album from Silver Convention, a very early example of the European power on the club scene! The group's the brainchild of arranger Sylvester Levay and producer Michael Kunze – who come up with some great German disco rhythms for the record, mixed with soaring female trio vocals, by a group that includes two German gals and American soul singer Roberta Kelly! The vocal approach is similar to that 70s Philly group mode – popularized by First Choice, Three Degrees, and others – and pumped it up with the Munich sound of throbbing bass and heavy beats, which was arguably one of the first steps towards house music in the 80s. Titles include the huge hit "Fly Robin Fly", plus "Save Me", "I Like It", "Chains Of Love", "Tiger Baby", "Always Another Girl", and "Heart Of Stone". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a half split top seam, cutout hole.)

Touch Of ClassI'm In Heaven ... LP
Midland, 1976. Near Mint- ... $13.99
A killer little soul group who recorded with John "Monster" Davis in the mid 70s – really soaring with a groove that rivals some of their bigger contemporaries on the east coast group scene! Touch Of Class sing in a style that's sometimes fragile, but often more suited to the soaring grooves that Davis gives them on the album – a mode that's partly disco, partly pop, and which should have been as huge as any of their Philly or New York contemporaries. There's a "slightly different" feel to the record that we really like – and tracks include "I Just Can't Say Goodbye", "I'm In Heaven", "You Got Nowhere To Come", "One Half As Much", and "I Love You Pretty Baby". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has a promo stamp, light wear, and aging.)

Doris TroyAnother Look ... CD
Midland/Omnivore, Late 1970s. New Copy ... $14.99 16.98
Doris Troy was one of the great female soul singers of the 60s – known for a famous single for Atlantic Records, and other great work too – reemerging here in a whole host of tracks from the late 70s, which have Doris singing with a style that's more mature than before! Most of the material here was recorded for the mostly-disco Midland label – a company who often had great grooves but weaker singers – a mistake that's nicely corrected here, as Troy's all-soul vocals really help the tunes soar over the top, pushing the uptempo grooves with a deeper current that's mighty nice! Titles include "Lyin Eyes (short version)", "You Got Me Baby (1979 disco version)", "Can't Hold On", "Another Look", "Give God Glory", "It's All In The Game (1979 disco version)", "Whatcha Gonna Do About It (1980 version)", "Smilin/Let Me Make Love To You", and "Another Look (12" version)". ✨✧ Carol DouglasMidnight Love Affair ... LP
Midland, 1976. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Carol's at the top of her game in this set of full-sounding disco numbers arranged and conducted by John Davis – singing with that heartfelt tone that still has plenty of great traces of AM radio soul, but which also slides nicely into the smoother, sophisti-club arrangements of the set. There's no real standout singles on the set, but a few of the tracks have some nice hooks – and titles include "Lie To Me", "Life Time Guarantee", "Crime Don't Pay", "Headline News", and "Midnight Love Affair". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a promo stamp, light wear, small tears at the top edge of the back paste-on, and is bent a bit at the top right corner.)

✨✧ Carol DouglasFull Bloom ... LP
Midland, 1977. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Soaring disco from Carol Douglas – a tightly produced set, but one that still has a surprising degree of soul! Douglas has a way of holding it together a bit more than some of her contemporaries on the Midsong label – and the backings here are all by John Davis, and filled with warm touches that are heavy on Philly Soul influences. There's plenty of strings, but also a core combo with Davis on the keyboards – and the percussion stands out nicely on many numbers. Titles include "Full Bloom Suite", "I Want To Stay With You", "We're Gonna Make It", "We Do It", and "I Got You On My Mind". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Touch Of ClassLove Means Everything (aka I'm In Heaven) ... LP
Stack O Hits, 1976/1981. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
There's a "slightly different" feel to the record that we really like – and tracks include "Love Means Everything", "Anything", "One Half As Much", "Love Me Tonight", "I'm In Heaven", and "You Got To Know Better". And just for the record, this appears to be the same record as I'm In Heaven, issued on the Midland label in 1976 – but it's presented here on another label with a date of 1981. LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing! Cover has a small cutout hole, but is otherwise great.)
