✨✧ George ClintonCinderella Theory ... CD
Paisley Park, 1989. Used ... Out Of Stock
By this time, the Mothership had just about completely crashed out – at least on record, as George shows us here. (Live, Clinton had no trouble keeping up the groove – as he could always start a party funk fire going in concert, no matter how he was sounding on record.) The record was cut for Prince's Paisley Park label, and definitely has some Prince funk in the grooves – if not the titles of the album's songs, which include "Serious Slammin", "Why Should I Dog U Out?", "Tweakin", "Airbound", "Goin On", and "French Kiss". ✨✧ VariousMood Mosaic Vol 1 – The Haschish Party ... CD
Partners In Crime (Italy), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A wonderfully groovy set – every bit as great as you might guess from the title and the cover – and the very first installment in the now-legendary Mood Mosaic series! The set's one of the few to bring together tunes from the groovier side of the spectrum at the end of the 60s – work from British, French, American, and German sources – all awash in a great blend of funky, easy, and pop-oriented modes! There's a nicely trippy feel throughout – and titles include "Hascisch Party" by George Garvarenz, "Kiss This" by Claude Denjean, "Acka Raga" by Shocking Blue, "Mas Que Nada" by Luiz Enriquez, "En Melody" by Serge Gainsbourg, "Love For Sale" by Marian McPartland, "Batucada" by Phil Crewe, "Marins Armins Amant Ou Maris" by Michel Legrand, and "Sitar Beat" by Klaus Doldinger. ✨✧ Louis PhilippeSean O'Hagan Presents The Sunshine World Of Louis Philippe ... LP
Tapete (Germany), Late 90s/2000s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A great introduction to the music of a criminally neglected figure in British Pop music – the wonderful Louis Philippe, an artist whose sound was always a bridge between the sunshine pop of the 60s and the smart singer/songwriter sounds of the later British scene! The High Llamas' Sean O'Hagan put the package together – and if you know Sean's music, you'll find plenty here to love – as both he and Philippe have an ear trained on Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach, but refitted for more contemporary modes for the 21st Century – and in Louis' case, there's also a heady contribution from French pop, which means that the cuts here have lyrics in both French and English. The set focuses mostly on material issued after Philippe's early records for El/Cherry Red – and titles include "Sweet Dollar Bill", "Boxing Clever", "Delta Kiss", "Wild-Eyed & Disheveled", "Lights Were Dancing On The Ceiling", "L'Hiver Te Va Bien", "I Can't Own Her", "An Ordinary Girl", "I Picked A Flower In Ispahan", and a great remake of "Wichi Tai To".
