ElDeBarge —
ElDeBarge ... LP Gordy, 1986. Sealed ...
Out Of Stock
The debut solo album from ElDeBarge – issued after a strong run of group records with the other members of his family, and a set that really let him take the lead with his warmly flowing vocal style! El's still a bit young at this point, but carries himself off like a real professional – that higher-ranged male soul singer who was really setting a new style for the late 80s scene – at a level that seems to work equally well on quiet storm ballads and more upbeat tunes. Titles include the hits "Who's Johnny" and "Love Always" – plus "Don't Say It's Over", "Thrill Of The Chase", "Private Line", "Someone", "When Love Has Gone Away", "I Wanna Hear It From My Heart", and "Secrets Of The Night". LP, Vinyl record album

Quite possibly the best album ever from Ohio funky soul combo Switch – and certainly proof that the hope of Motown in the 80s was in ensemble group funk! This second album holds up really well, and thanks to some sweet production by Bobby DeBarge and Jermaine Jackson, the record's got a warm soulful groove that hooks on the popular styles at the end of the 70s, but which keeps the group fresh and point to possibilies for the new decade. We really wish more singers and groups followed suit in the early part of the 80s! Titles include "Calling On All Girls", "I Call Your Name", "You're The One For Me", and "Go On Doin What You Feel". CD
Music from Lionel Richie, Aretha Franklin, DeBarge, Natalie Cole, the New Birth, George Benson, Raydio, GQ, Johnnie Taylor, Smokey Robinson, SWV, and more – 24 tracks in all. CD
Includes selections by Vanity, Alfie, Willie Hutch, DeBarge, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Syreeta, Rockwell, and Charlene. LP, Vinyl record album
A stone pop soul winner from DeBarge – the kind of record that made the group a heck of a lot of money back in the 80s, and which sounds surprisingly great to our ears today! The record features lots of electro arrangements – fuzzy keyboards and bass pedals grooving around in a way that's got traces of "street" electro, mixed with some super-smooth LA production, and used brilliantly by the group in a family-based pop harmony way that stretches back to some of the great 70s groups of the same style – like The Sylvers or the Stairsteps. A heck of a lot nicer than we remember, and pretty great all the way through – with tracks that include "I Like It", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "All This Love", "I'm In Love With You", "Can't Stop", "It's Getting Stronger", and "Life Begins With You". CD
A surprisingly great album from DeBarge – proof that the group really had something great at the start! Much as we'd like to dismiss DeBarge for their dated costumes and silly covers, the group still stands as one of the strongest pop acts from early 80s Motown – and have an undeniably catchy groove that still has appeal after all these years! Of course, part of the strength of this one is actually the mellower numbers – sung in a wonderfully sweet harmony mode that was instantly timeless. The best of these is "Stay With Me", sampled to great effect, and a tune elevates this album above all the rest – but there's plenty of other tasty numbers too, including "Time Will Reveal", "Need Somebody", "Be My Lady", "Love Me In A Special Way" and "Queen Of My Heart". LP, Vinyl record album
A baker's dozen from Grenique, Jaze, Chico DeBarge featuring Joe, Ol' Skool, Ricky Jones, Fa Sho, Phoenix Johnson, Angel Grant, Monifah, DJ Rogers Jr, Big Bub, Rachid, and Jeff Majors. CD
Nice mid 80s UK pop soul from Five Star – sweet family act that's kind of in the mode that's a bit of an unofficial British answer to the cheery family pop soul vibe of groups like DeBarge and New Edition at the time – and a sweet one! Lean, lightly thumping synth soul backdrops and nice vocals from the group on some very catchy songs! Titles include "Love Take Over", "All Fall Down", "Let Me Be The One", "System Addict", "Hide And Seek", "RSVP", "Crazy", "Winning" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
