Live At Fitzgerald's

LP (Item 777835) Sea Breeze, 1985 — Condition: Sealed
Features Gloria Morgan on vocals, Steve Jenson on trumpet, and Jeff Lindberg on trombone.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sea Breeze, 1976. Sealed
Solo material from pianist Al Haig – a set that shows him in really great form for the 70s! Al's playing mostly familiar numbers here – and his approach is warmly sensitive throughout – still as fluid on the keys as the Haig heard during famous 50s bop years, but with a richer ... Joe Albany

Albany Touch
Sea Breeze, 1977. Sealed
The Albany touch is a great one here – at once angular and modern, yet also somewhat fragile and certainly human – that great blend of modes that Joe always brought to his rare dates in the studio! Even at the start, Albany had sort of an earthy undercurrent – one that was quite ... LP, Vinyl record album

John Coltrane

Soultrane
Prestige, 1958. Sealed
A bold early statement from a young John Coltrane – and an album that really has him expanding his talents as a tenor soloist! Gene Ammons

Boss Tenor
Prestige, 1960. Near Mint-
A soul jazz classic from Gene Ammons – the kind of session that easy made him "boss" on tenor – with a tone and conception that few other players could touch! The set is done in a style that's laidback, but never too loose – bouncing along in that "with conga" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Charlie Parker

Very Best Of Bird
Dial/Warner, Late 40s. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
An essential set of tracks – as it includes most of the best master takes from Parker's legendary Dial Recordings! Chet Baker & Art Pepper

Playboys
Pacific Jazz, 1956. Sealed
An excellent session that stands as one of both players' strongest from the time! Baker's really opening up here, moving more into that hardbop mode of the late 50s – and Pepper's already hit his stride here – with the pair of them working in a group that includes Phil Urso on tenor, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Prestige, 1956. Sealed
A record that hardly seems like workin at all, given the ease with which the group lays down the music – especially trumpeter Miles Davis, whose work here is like magic – and tenorist John Coltrane, who was really coming into his own with this recording! The set's one of a handful from ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, Mid 60s. Sealed
One of Tony Bennett's most fantastic albums from the 60s, and a record that features some nice jazzy arrangements that push past the usual heavy studio ones. The album includes a great reading of "Samba Do Aviao" with backing by Carlos Lyra, Helcio Milito, and Al Cohn – plus "F ... LP, Vinyl record album
