Watchin You Watchin Me

LP (Item 2918) Chi Sound/United Artists, 1976 — Condition: Sealed
The rare second album from this obscure midwest group! The groove is more smooth funky soul than anything else, and the record was produced by Carl Davis for his Chi-Sound imprint, and it's got a similar sound to some of the other groups on the label, like Manchild. Tracks include "Jive Du Du", "You Got Me Rushin", "Where You Lead", "Syncopated Madness", and "Watchin You, Watchin Me".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Willie Tee

Anticipation
United Artists, 1976. Near Mint-
Mid 70's album of funky soul tracks cut by ex-Gator Willie Tee, with a number of other members of the Gators, for United Artists. Don't go thinking that it's raw New Orleans soul, though, because the sound is a lot more polished, with more of a 70's modern groove to it. Willie's still got some ... LP, Vinyl record album

Walter Jackson

Send In The Clowns
Chi Sound, 1979. Near Mint-
Forget the million times you've heard the schmaltzy title tune of this one – and check out Walter's version! Like most of his work from the time, the album's an incredibly mature batch of soul tracks – recorded in a very adult style that was similar to Teddy Pendergrass' work from the ... The Ike & Tina Turner Revue shakes the foundation at Carnegie Hall on April Fools Day, 1971! 10 of Chuck's best soul cuts, originally recorded for the Wand label. This stuff virtually defines the male side of the NY uptown soul sound, as you'll hear in tracks like "Any Day Now", "I Don't Want To Cry", "I Wake Up Crying", "Tell Him I'm Not Home", and ... LP, Vinyl record album

An overlooked record in the grand scheme – which is unforgivable in our book! A key collection of work by Larry Williams – the 50's R&B artist who's too-often written off as a rocker, but who actually went onto have a key influence in the early years of soul!
