(Limited red vinyl pressing, still sealed with hype sticker.)
Sealed
This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
One of a handful of amazing early records from Bobby Blue Bland – genre-setting material that was partly blues, partly soul, and still had some of the fuller currents of the earlier R&B years too! Bobby's voice is incredible – one of the most distinct in soul, and up there with ... LP, Vinyl record album
A side each of these two important talents in blues – presented here in a format that makes the record a real double-header! If it were up to us, every song Bo recorded would have been a hit – because they're all so great! This album does a pretty good job of sorting out the best numbers, though – picking 16 tracks from his all-great albums for Chess – with a focus on the tightest and most groove-heavy ... Raunchy vintage blues and jazz, with lots of drug and drinking slang – on cuts by Babs Gonzalez, Spirits Of Rhythm, Lucky Millinder, Rubberlegs Williams, Slim & Slam, Rosetta Howard, Cats & The Fiddle, and others! LP, Vinyl record album
A late 50s session, but an album that captures Lighnin Hopkins in a rootsy style that could well hearken back to the 78rpm blues records of the 30s – thanks to production by Samuel B Charters, who captured Hopkins alone making music in his apartment in Houston! The tracks have that ... LP, Vinyl record album
A wonderful entry in the Jazz Workshop series on RCA – and proof that the line of releases was definitely worth the promise of its title! Billy Byers was a well-known mainstream arranger at the time of this set – but here, he steps out in territory that's a bit more modern than usual ... LP, Vinyl record album
