Totally great work from the legendary keyboard giant
Webster Lewis – very different than the major label records he cut in America during the late 70s, and instead this wonderful blend of jazz, funk, and soul!
Webster plays Hammond, and spins out tunes that start slow, then build nicely – sometimes instrumental, sometimes with vocals from singer Judd Watkins, in a style that pushes from a 60s soul jazz vibe into much more spiritual territory! The feel is similar to his Live At Club 7 material, also recorded in Europe around the same time – and it's a great picture of a much more powerful jazz side of
Lewis that wasn't recorded in the studio. The rest of the group features Bobby Greene on alto, Stan Strickland on tenor and flute, and Jimmy Hopps on drums – and titles include "Sunshine Blossom", "Glory Of Morning"," Pinout", "The Look Of Love", and "Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child".
