✨✧ Sonora Matancera/Cortijo Y Su ComboDuelo Musical ... LP
Seeco, Early 60s. Very Good+ ... $9.99
A Latin Battle Of The Bands – as Cortijo's combo and Sonora Matancera go head to head! The album alternates between tracks by each of the groups – so that there's 6 of each, and the listener comes out the winner! (Of course, a real "duelo" would feature one band in the left channel, and one in the right channel – and let them work it out at the same time!) Cortijo plays "Las Ingratitudes", "Palo Que Le Das", "Dejalo Que Suba", "Juan Jose", and "Lo Tuyo Es Cronico". Sonora Matancera perform "Ave Maria Lola", "Oye Mima", "Toitico Tuyo", and "Micaela". LP, Vinyl record album
(US Tropical pressing. Cover has masking tape on all seams, heavy edge wear along the opening, some surface wear.)

Twennynine With Lenny WhiteBest Of Friends ... LP
Elektra, 1979. Sealed ... $14.99 19.99
Jazzy soul all the way through – and a great little album from Lenny White and the Twennynine combo – a group that features some especially great keyboards from the great Don Blackman! The style here's a bit like some of Blackman's own work – rooted in fusion, but focused towards soul – with vocals on all tracks, but lots of tightly crafted riffs and grooves underneath! Keyboards and guitars are in the forefront on top of Lenny White's drums – but tunes also feature some EWF horn work, and an occasional vocal chorus arranged by Blackman, and featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater and Googie Coppola! Tracks include the classic 80s groover "Peanut Butter", plus "Tropical Nights", "Best Of Friends", "Take Me Or Leave Me", "Citi Dancin", and "Betta". LP, Vinyl record album
(Still sealed, with a light sticker spot.)

✨✧ VariousWest Indies Funk Vol 2 ... LP
Trans Air (Puerto Rico), 1970s. Near Mint- 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Rare Caribbean funk from the 70s – the second volume of West Indies Funk – once again delivering a stylistically diverse take on the classic funky soul from groups such as The Troubadours, Boo & The Tru Tones, Roosevelt Johnson & His Spice Islanders, The Cassanovas, Blue Rhythm Combo and others! All the things we dug about the first volume are in the mix once again – and ultimately the set goes even further with the range and boundlessly funky styles. Includes numbers that could just as easily come from the funky underground of the regional US and others that roll out grooves that are purely indicative of the Caribbean – with steel drums, tropical rhythms and all around breezier, sunnier touches. Even better than the first one! Includes "Funk Good Feeling" by The Troubaodours, "Have A Party" by The Esquires Now", "Don't Blame This Joint" by Boo & The True Tones", "Shango!" by Steel Image, "Something's Definitely Going On" by Mamwaw, "Look-Ka-Py Py" by L Charmers, "Funky Crookie" by Exile 1, "Sing A Simple Song" by The Cassanovas, "The Big Pay Back" by Kenny & The Beach Boys and more. ✨✧ GimmicksGimmicks Of Sweden ... LP
Polydor (Sweden), 1972. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of the grooviest records cut by this incredibly groovy combo! The Gimmicks are a sweet pop harmony combo from Sweden – in a style that's a lot like Brasil 66 or Bossa Rio – and like the work of those two in the early 70s, this 1972 set shows The Gimmicks expanding their sound a lot, picking up influences from 70s LA pop, electric samba from Brazil, and some of the hipper styles of European pop-oriented grooves. The record's got a sparkling electric sound and some really wonderful harmonies – and tracks include "Que Maravilha", "Once I Loved", "Somewhere In The Hills", "Colours Of Love", "It's Too Late Baby", "Ye Me Le", "Pais Tropical", and "Stone Slipper Cindy". LP, Vinyl record album
(Japanese pressing!)

✨✧ Roberto RoenaRoberto Roena Y Su Apollo Sound 6 ... LP
International, 1974. Very Good Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A real breakthrough album from Roberto Roena and his Apollo Sound combo – a record that showed the world that this scrappy little group could stand head to head with the giants of the 70s salsa years! As on other records, there's a strongly percussive vibe throughout – bongos from Roena, plus timbales, conga, and other percussion – all topped by a great horn section that features two trumpets, tenor, trombone, and flute – all of whom hit some wonderfully jazzy moments at time, filling in the set with some great tropical shades and colors! Vocals are by Tito Cruz and Sammy Gonzalez, and a number of well placed percussion and horn solos on just about every track. Titles include "Traicion", "Cucarachita Cucarachon", "En Mis Rosales", "Que Se Sepa", "Ese Soy Yo", and "Herencia Rumbera". LP, Vinyl record album
