Pointer SistersBlack & White ... LP
RCA, 1981. Near Mint- .... $0.99
A great step into the 80s for The Pointer Sisters – a record that has them bringing in themes that are a bit more soulful than some of their previous efforts! The album's still got all the big crossover potential of their other hits – but the groove's got a solidly soulful vibe overall – plenty catchy, and with some great 80s elements bubbling underneath – more than enough to freshen up their sound, and give the trio great new territory to work through! Titles include the mega-hit "Slow Hand" – plus "Sweet Lover Masn", "We're Gonna Make It", "What A Surprise", "Got To Find Love", "Fall In Love Again", "Should I Do It", and "Someday We'll Be Together". CD features 2 bonus tracks – "Holding Out For Love" and "What A Surprise (original edit)".

Pointer SistersBreak Out ... LP
Planet, 1983. Very Good .... $0.99
The Pointer Sisters were superstars before 1983's Break Out, and this appropriately titled album shot them to stratospheric heights in popularity – with good reason, as this is some of the catchiest, hookiest pop and/or soul of the past few decades! Stellar Pointer Sisters vocals and the unshakable synth heavy, dancefloor ready production by Richard Perry. What more can we say! Hit after hit on this set: includes "Jump (For My Love)", "Automatic", "I'm So Excited", "I Need You", "Neutron Dance", "Easy Persuasion", "Baby Come And Get It", "Telegraph Your Love" and "Operator".

Pointer SistersEnergy (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Planet/Big Break (UK), 1978. New Copy .... $14.99
A huge crossover moment for The Pointer Sisters – thanks to their mega-hit version of Bruce Springsteen's "Fire", which helped sell about a gazillion copies of the record! The sound of that hit pretty much sums up the overall style of the album – as the trio delivers a number of smooth mainstream takes on 70s numbers by other soul and rock artists – all produced with a tight, guitar-driven groove by Richard Perry. Titles include "Fire", "Everybody Is A Star", "Hypnotized", "Come & Get Your Love", "Happiness", "Angry Eyes", and "Echoes Of Love" – plus the trio's take on the Steely Dan cut "Dirty Work", a personal favorite of ours! Includes 3 bonus tracks – "Love Is Like A Rolling Stone", "Nothing But A Heartache", and "Happiness (12" disco)".

Pointer SistersSerious Slammin ... LP
BMG, 1988. Near Mint- .... $0.49
Some serious slammin from The Pointer Sisters – still going strong here, near the end of an amazing run of records done with producer Richard Perry! The late 80s vibe is definitely in place – as the beats are a lot more upfront than previously for the trio – a bumpin, thumping approach to the groove that really lives up to the title – and which serves to be a perfect way to emphasize the hook-heavy approach to soul that was always the Sisters' strongest suit. The album's filled with crossover gems – and titles include "Shut Up & Dance", "He Turned Me Out", "Flirtatious", "I'm In Love", "My Life (rmx)", "Pride", "I Will Be There", and "Moonlight Dancing".
(Includes the lyric sleeve. Cover has a cutout notch.)

Pointer SistersSo Excited (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Sony/Big Break (UK), 1982. New Copy .... $13.99
A sweet one from The Pointer Sisters – with an opening track that's permanently tattooed to the memory of just about anyone who lived through the era, but better than that, a bunch of great songs that are comparably slept on all these years later! So Excited is a great example of a very solid set of period soulful grooves that you might be tempted to pass on due to extreme exhaustion from the biggest hit – don't do that! There's some great stuff here! The single "I'm So Excited" lit up the early 80s, but this album actually isn't the biggest Pointer Sisters hit of the era, and it's worthy stuff to say the least! Dancefloor ready midtempo groovers with big choruses and insistent grooves galore. Titles include "I'm So Excited", "See How The Love Goes", "Heart Beat", "All Of You", "If You Wanna Get Back Your Lady", "Heart To Heart" and "American Music". This Big Break UK remastered edtion includes 2 bonus tracks: "I'm So Excited (12" Remix)" and "If You Wanna Get Back Your Lady" (12" Remix)".

Pointer SistersSpecial Things (plus bonus track) ... CD
Sony/Big Break (UK), 1980. New Copy .... $13.99
A surprisingly pleasing little set from The Pointer Sisters – a lot more soul than pop, and really held together with some solid production and songwriting! Despite the hit cut "He's So Shy", with its over-heard catchy chorus, the rest of the album has the trio moving in a somewhat sophisticated territory – almost taking some cues from The Jones Girls at points, especially on the mellower moments. Sid Sharp handled most of the larger arrangements, which dip, turn, and groove nicely – and most numbers feature one of the sisters stepping into the lead, with support from the others. Big Break UK remastered edition includes "Could I Be Dreaming", "He's So Shy", "The Love Too Good To Last", "Special Things", "Where Did The Time Go", "Evil", "Save This Night For Love" and the bonus track "Movin' On".

Greg Phillinganes — Pulse (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Planet/Big Break (UK), 1985. New Copy .... $15.99
Greg's definitely showing off all his chops on this one – working with help from a huuuge array of famous guest stars – including The Pointer Sisters, James Ingram, Howard Hewett, Jackie Jackson, Michael Jackson, Robbie Nevil, and others. And while the bulk of the record really shows the influence of these mainstream 80s soul artists – and not always in a good way – the record also sports a brilliant tune done with Donald Fagan of Steely Dan, the sweetly grooving "Lazy Nina", which sounds like the best work off Fagan's Nightfly, and has Greg and Don duetting on vocals! Titles include "Behind The Mask", "Signals", "Shake It", "Countdown To Love", "Come As You Are", and "Playin With Fire". CD features lots of bonus tracks – "Only You", "Behind The Mask (12" version)", "Playin With Fire (12" version)", "Behind The Mask (inst)", "Behind The Mask (single)", and "Playin With Fire (inst)".

June PointerBaby Sister (with bonus track) ... CD
Big Break (UK), 1983. New Copy .... $13.99
A sweet solo set from Pointer Sister June – stepping out here on her own, but with a groove that's right up there with her family group's classics for Planet Records! As with those sets, Richard Perry is at the helm here – giving the set a nice mix of class and groove, with perhaps a bit more focus on the sort of sophisticated numbers that work best for June's wide-ranging vocals! And in fact, there's an overall feel here that's a tad less commercial than the Pointer Sisters – still plenty of catchy tunes, to be sure, but maybe not as obvious a move right for the charts. Titles include "Always", "Ready For Some Action", "I Will Understand", "To You My Love", "New Love True Love", and "You Can Do It". Also features a bonus track – a single version of "Ready For Some Action".

new Bonnie PointerIf The Price Is Right (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Private I/FTG, 1984. New Copy .... $14.99 18.99 Out Of Stock
Bonnie Pointer sounding great in the mid 80s– on a hard-to-find album cut for Private I/CBS after a drawn out split with Motown – one that finds her in a prime, catchy dancefloor R&B mode! To our ears, If The Price Is Right holds up as well as a lot of the pop soul of the period, including Bonnie's siblings The Pointer Sisters – though it obviously didn't hit as hugely! It's got crisp keyboards, programming and 80s boogie, but there's also some room for more more tender balladry and chugging club soul reminiscent of the late disco years. Of course, Bonnie's lovely, soulful voice is the most important characteristic. An overlooked album that's well worth catching up with! Include "Premonition", "Johnny", "Come Softly To Me", "Under The Influence Of Love", "Your Touch", "Tight Blue Jeans", "There's Nobody Quite Like You" and "If The Price Is Right". This FTG CD has a whopping 9 bonus tracks – single, club, dub and extended 12" mixes and more – including "Your Touch (Club Version)", "Premonition (Dance Version)", "There's Nobody Quite Like You (Single Version)", "The Beast In Me (12" Version)", "Heaven" from The Heavenly Bodies soundtrack.
