Lenny BruceInterviews Of Our Times ... LP
Fantasy, Late 50s. Very Good+ .... $11.99
Not necessarily a record of interviews – as the title might make you think – but one of Bruce's best records for Fantasy! The album's got some very edgey bits that approximate his live material, and which take the best part of his cleaner act, and transfer them well to record. Titles include "Dijinni In The Candy Store", "Enchanting Transylvania", "Interview With Dr Sholem Stein", "The Interview", "All Broadway Musicals Sound The Same, Especially The Baritones", and "The March Of High Fidelity".
(Maroon label pressing.)

Lenny BruceReal Lenny Bruce ... LP
Fantasy, Late 50s/1975. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold .... $9.99
Very nice 2LP set that brings together some of Lenny's best moments recorded for Fantasy – including many that aren't currently on CD. The album includes the classic "Thank You, Masked Man", plus "Lima Ohio", "Dijinni In the Candy Store", "Comic At The Palladium", "How To Relax Your Colored Friends At parties", and "The Sound". The material is fantastic, and there's a booklet with a great set of notes on Lenny by Ralph Gleason.
(Cover has edge wear.)

Lenny BruceTogetherness – I Am Not A Nut, Elect Me ... LP
Fantasy, 1959. Very Good .... $6.99
Classic early Lenny Bruce work on Fantasy – a groundbreaking set of tracks that features some great shorter snippets, plus a few of the longer, more drawn-out routines that soon became Bruce's stock in trade during the more controversial years – those live riffs that really set Lenny apart from other comedians, and which set the scene for generations to come! Titles include the 19 minute "The Palladium", plus "Our Governors", "My Trip To Miami", "Esther Costello Story", "White Collar Drunks", and "The Steve Allen Show".
(Maroon label pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear.)

Nico — Chelsea Girl (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Verve/4 Men With Beards, 1967. New Copy (reissue).... $18.99 21.98
One of the greatest records of the 60s – and a sublime debut from Nico, sounding fresher and less dreary here than on many of her later sides – although still pretty chilling overall! The record features larger orchestral backings on most tracks – never too heavy, but with light strings that really help Nico depart from the sound of her work with The Velvet Underground. This style adds a new level of sophistication to her vocals, and really helps in her interpretation of the unusual material culled for the set – tunes that include a few key numbers by old partners in The Velvets, as well as some especially great tracks by a young Jackson Browne – a romantic interest of Nico at the time! The whole thing's incredible – on a par with the best from Scott Walker during the same stretch, although very different overall – and a key entry in the darker side of the non-hippie end of the 60s spectrum. Titles include "These Days", "It Was A Pleasure Then", "Eulogy To Lenny Bruce", and the incredible title cut, "Chelsea Girls". Fantastic!

Mort Sahl — Mort Sahl At The Hungry I ... LP
Verve, Late 50s. Very Good .... $1.99
Although not nearly as well-remembered as Lenny Bruce, Mort Sahl is really our favorite comedian from the late 50s. He's got this incredible delivery style that is both immediately arresting and surprisingly heartfelt – and instead of doing short canned "bits", he just sort of rambles on at length about news, politics, and other groovy subjects. This album captures him before a very hip crowd at San Francisco's legendary Hungry I, and it's probably as good a glimpse into post-war American neuroses as you'll ever get!
(Blue label pressing, with deep groove. Cover has a split top seam.)

new Rae Bourbon — Let Me Tell You About My Operation ... LP
UTC, Mid 50s. Very Good .... $11.99 Just Sold Out!
Extremely strange work from Rae Bourbon – a female-impersonating entertainer who was received a famous early sex-change operation! The album has Rae speaking her way over a set of musical numbers and monologues – talking about his gender change, wants, wishes, desires, and other proclivities! The album's surprisingly charming – and Rae talks in a campy voice that's very much along the lines of the one that Lenny Bruce would use when he was putting on a limp wrist. Piano tinkles through most tunes, and titles include "Let Me Tell You About My Operation", "Around The World In 80 Ways", "Don't Call Me Madam", and "You're Stepping On My Eyelashes".
(Cover has light wear, with some aging on the back.)

new Woody Allen — Woody Allen ... LP
Colpix, 1964. Used .... $11.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Woody's very first LP – and a pretty great album of standup material, cut back when he was just a budding writer for TV. The set was recorded at Mr Kelly's in Chicago, and has an easy going flow – with Woody just talking his way through material, almost in a Lenny Bruce sort of way.
(White label promo. Cover has a split spine, and a spot of tape & a small rip.)

new Henry Gibson — Alligator & Other Poems By Henry Gibson (aka By Henry Gibson) ... LP
Liberty, Late 60s. Used .... $8.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
A strangely compelling record by Henry Gibson – an artist who's known for his work on so many fronts, from his classic appearances in 70s Robert Altman films, his 60s work on Laugh-In, and his more recent stint in Magnolia! This set's a pretty weird little batch of comedy routines – mostly done in a southern accent, with a slight edge to them – almost Lenny Bruce-ish, but a bit more straight. Titles include "Education Is Important", "A Little Bit About Myself", "Why I Like Soap", and "The Alligator".
(White label promo. Cover has some wear, a bit of aging, and a promo stamp.)
