new DynastyAdventures In The Land Of Music ... LP
Solar, 1980. Very Good+ .... $7.99 Just Sold Out!
Lots of musical adventures here – most of them in that tightly-romping style that made Dynasty so great back in the day – almost a fusion of older sweet group soul with some of the more bottom-driven modes forged by the Solar label! The title cut here is our favorite – a sweet stepper that bursts out with this blast of sound that's totally great – completely captivating, and filled with cascading sounds that really grab us. Other tracks include "Ice Breaker", "Something To Remember", "Day & Night", "Do Me Right", and "I've Just Begun To Love You".
(Includes the lyric sleeve. Cover has some wear.)

new Charles Mingus — Mingus Dynasty (plus bonus track) ... CD
Columbia/Legacy, 1960. Used .... $7.99 Temporarily Out Of Stock
Brilliant work by Mingus – recorded right around the same time as his legendary Mingus Ah Um album for Columbia! The group features some of Mingus' best sidemen – like Booker Ervin, Jimmy Knepper, John Handy, and Roland Hanna – and the tracks have that wild mix of emotion, tight composition, and freewheeling soloing that made Mingus' late 50's output so compelling. Includes "Diane", "Song With Orange", "Gunslinging Bird", and "Far Wells, Mill Valley". Plus the CD includes the bonus track "Strollin" and unedited versions of "Slop", "Song With Orange", "Gunslinging Bird", and "Things Ain't What They Used to Be" – all of which were originallly shaved down for release on the original album, now here in their proper form for the first time!

Charles Mingus — Complete Columbia & RCA Albums (10 CD set) ... CD
Columbia, Late 50s/1960s/Early 70s. New Copy 10 CDs .... $59.99 69.98
Incredible music from Charles Mingus – a set that's pulled from a few different periods, yet features some of his greatest recordings ever! The package begins with a stunning 2CD version of Tijuana Moods – a true Mingus masterpiece, filled with amazing rhythms and mindblowing solos – presented here with loads of bonus tracks and alternates, too! Then, you hit Mingus' key Columbia years at the end of the 50s – the landmark albums Mingus Ah Uhm and Mingus Dynasty – supported here by an extra CD's worth of important alternate takes – which show the strong development of the music! Next is Mingus in the early 70s – some of his best recordings from this later stretch – the sublime Let My Children Hear Music, easily some of his most creative longform work at the time – and the brilliant 2CD Charles Mingus & Friends In Concert – which reminds us just how strongly Charles can spur on a soloist. The set's completed by the posthumous release of material titled Epitaph – another 2CD set – and the package features detailed notes, recollections from Sue Mingus, and rare photos too!

Various — Love Vibes – 18 Feel Good Factor Upbeat 70s & 80s Soul Gems ... CD
Expansion (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy .... $16.99
A wicked little collection that really lives up to its name – a set that's filled with warmth and good energy throughout – not to mention a great array of overlooked soul tracks too! Most of the numbers here are lesser-known gems from the late 70s and early 80s – upbeat, but not in a disco way – and usually somewhere in a space between modern soul and boogie, which works perfectly for the positive vibes of the tunes! There's a soaring feel that definitely takes off from an Earth Wind & Fire sort of style – and although most of the artists here are familiar, you'll really be surprised at the tracks chosen for the set. Titles include "Love Vibes" by The Emotions, "Something On Your Mind" by Melba Moore, "Razzle Dazzle" by Heatwave, "Better Things" by Sylvia St James, "Riding" by Michael Henderson, "Can You See Where I'm Coming From" by Instant Funk, "All In The Way You Get Down" by Ray Parker Jr & Raydio, "Sweet Fire" by Mighty Fire, "Here I Am" by Dynasty, "No One" by Flakes, "Love Is Such A Crazy Thing" by The Spinners, "Wonderful" by GQ, and "When I'm Dancin" by Lenny Williams.

Charles Mingus — Shoes Of The Fisherman's Wife ... LP
Columbia, 1959/1971/1988. Very Good+ .... $3.99 Just Sold Out!
80's reissue that brings together tracks from two different Mingus Columbia sessions – one from 1959, and one from 1971. The '71 material is the extended "Shoes of The Fisherman's Wife Are Some Jive Ass Slippers", which is one of Mingus' best works from the decade. The other tracks are shorter, and were originally presented in edited form on the Mingus Dynasty album – but they're offered here in longer versions that include the previously-edited material. Titles include "Song With Orange", "Slop", and "Gunslinging Bird".
(Cover has light wear.)

new Various — Solar – The Ultimate 12" Collection ... CD
Solar/PTG (France), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 2CD .... $20.99 Out Of Stock
A treasure trove of twelve inch singles from Solar Records – the west coast powerhouse for uptempo soul! Most of the numbers here date from the early 80s years when Solar were totally on top of their game – really dominating mainstream soul of the time in the same way Philly International did a decade before. The 2CD set features 12" mixes for all tracks – which mean that most are longer than the LP versions – and most grooves here are in a bumping, stepping, or boogie-oriented mode – post-disco with plenty of great west coast R&B touches. Titles include "Midas Touch" and "Scientific Love" by Midnight Star, "Show Me Where You're Coming From" and "Dance With You" by Carrie Lucas, "Call Me" by Bill Wolfer, "There It Is" and "Night To Remember (US ext mix)" by Shalamar, "No Pain No Gain" and "Rock Steady" by The Whispers, "I Don't Wanna Be A Freak" and "Love In The Fast Lane" by Dynasty, "It's All The Way Live" and "One Minute After Midnight" by Lakeside, "Classy Lady" by Leroy Hutson, "Romeo Where's Juliet" and "Winners & Loser" by Collage, "Street Beat" by The Deele, and "Come Back Lover" by The Sylvers.
