Roberto Olzer —
Torre Del Lago ... LP Sawano/Jazz Shinsekai (Japan), 2017. New Copy ...
$16.9952.99
Really haunting solo work from pianist Roberto Olzer – a player who's already got this incredibly sensitive command of the keyboard on his trio records, which only comes through even more strongly here! Olzer seems trained in the best modes of the romantic composers, especially Chopin – yet he's also a jazz musician too – and blends a sense of improvisation with an impeccable understanding of the piano, with a balance of notes, sounds, and silence that's completely sublime! The set does reference another world in its use of a few compositions by Puccini, mixed with others by Pat Metheny, AntonioCarlosJobim, and Bill Evans – in a set list that includes "We Will Meet Again", "Pezzo In La", "Luiza", "In Her Family", "Straight To Dream", "Torre Del Lago", "Remembering Pramila", and "Coro A Bocca Chiusa". LP, Vinyl record album
(Great Japanese pressing – heavy cover and vinyl!)
Leila Pinheiro's first album – first issued back in 1982, with a spare and jazzy post-bossa style that reminds us of some of Gal Costa's work from the same period! Leila's vocals are wonderful – slightly deep with lots of jazzy phrasing, set to arrangements that drift along in a mixture of electric and acoustic instrumentation – a wonderful blend, and one that gives the record a depth that you don't always find in some of Pinheiro's more recent recordings. The set includes songs by Francis Hime, AntonioCarlosJobim, Joao Donato, and Cateano Veloso – and titles include "Tudo Em Cima", "Bons Amigos", "A Porta", "Coracao Vagabundo", "Lua De Cetim", and "Nossa Rua". Lisa Ono —
Bossa Carioca ... LP Universal (Japan), 1998. New Copy (reissue)...
Out Of Stock
Lisa Ono is at it again – recording a lovely set of bossa tunes with help from Paulo and Daniel Jobim, son and grandson of AntonioCarlosJobim! The Jobims produced the album with Lisa, and they play guitar and piano on the album – in a moody style that recalls all the best 60s stylings of AntonioCarlosJobim. Lisa's voice is great as ever – and the mix of her singing and acoustic guitar with the classic bossa combo sounds feels a lot like Roberto Menescal's best work from the old days. Includes the original tunes "Diz A Ela" and "Os Dois", plus classics like "O Barquinho", "Samba De Verao", "Corcovado", "Maria E Dia", and "So Danco Samba". LP, Vinyl record album
