✨✧ Dave BrubeckDave Brubeck Quartet Plays Music From West Side Story And . . . ... LP
Columbia, Early 60s. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A collection of classic work by Dave's group with Paul Desmond – featuring 5 tunes from West Side Story, inlcuding "Tonight", "Somewhere", "Maria", and "I Feel Pretty", plus others from shows and standards. The group, as usual, really opens up the tunes – and Desmond's icily skating alto really makes the best of the material. Other titles include "What Is This Thing Called Love", "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", and "Night & Day". LP, Vinyl record album
(70s pressing.)

Xavier CugatXavier Cugat Today ... LP
Decca, Late 60s. Very Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
Very groovy stuff from Cugie! It's the late 60s, and he's got more of a pop Latin groove than earlier – and lays down some nice peppy covers of pop material, plus a few other Latin standards. Not exactly Latin soul – but not that far off, either. Includes a great version of "Samba Saravah", plus "Mellow Yellow", "Compadre Pedro Juan", "Shadow Of Your Smile", "Jungle Rhumba", and the perennial favorite "Music To Watch Girls By". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing. Cover has light wear and some aging.)

Miles DavisMy Funny Valentine ... LP
Columbia, 1964. Near Mint- ... $29.99
One of those key cases where Miles Davis took a familiar song and made it his own! The set's a live one, and features a famous 15 minute version of "My Funny Valentine" – played by Davis in a spacious, open sort of way – and one that has key hints of the modernism to come in his music, yet still rings out with some of his more easygoing late 50s appeal. The group here features George Coleman on tenor alongside the rhythm section of Herbie Hancock piano, Ron Carter bass, and Tony Williams on drums – all three of whom help Davis edge into darker territory, even when things are ostensibly sweet! Apart from the version of "My Funny Valentine", other titles include "All Blues", "All Of You", "I Thought About You", and "Stella By Starlight" LP, Vinyl record album
(80s stereo Japanese CBS/Sony pressing, with obi & insert – 23AP 2562. Still in the original shrink!)

✨✧ Charlie ParkerNight & Day – The Genius Of Charlie Parker #1 ... LP
Verve, Early 50s. Very Good+ ... $4.99
A classic 50s collection of Verve material by Charlie Parker – and one of those records that will definitely help you understand his genius right from the start! The lineup here is slightly large – wonderful arrangements by Joe Lipman that are a bit orchestral, with strings as well – but never used in styles that get in the way of Charlie Parker's solidly smoking alto sax! In fact, the music is a key example of just what makes Bird so different – as he's right out front, taking off in all his own directions – showing that although part of a group, a musician of his caliber can also take flight in ways that few jazz musicians would have imagined a few years before. The set features incredible readings of the tunes "Temptation", "Lover", "Stella By Starlight", "Dancing In The Dark", and "Laura". LP, Vinyl record album
(Later MGM stereo pressing. Cover has surface wear, some wear on the spine.)

Charlie Parker, Oscar Peterson, & OthersNorman Granz' Jazz Concert #1 (2LP Box Set) ... LP
Norgran, Early 50s. Very Good+ 2LP ... $24.99
An amazing early package from Norman Granz – proof that even in the early days, the man really knew how to put together a record! The set features different batches of music from key Verve artists – including a Charlie Parker with strings batch, an Oscar Peterson section, Buddy Rich trio material, and some great Coleman Hawkins small group tracks – plus some nice jam session tracks with Harry Edison and Lester young! LP, Vinyl record album
(Japanese box set pressing, with insert!)

✨✧ Miles DavisIn A Silent Way (Original Master Recording) ... LP
Mobile Fidelity/Columbia, 1969. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
There's nothing "silent" here – as the album's a bold entry in the electric years of Miles Davis – one that still features contributions from Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Tony Williams – but which also expands the lineup considerably – really reaching out towards the sound of Bitches Brew! Herbie's on electric keys here, working alongside Chick Corea and Joe Zawinul, who really help increase the flow of the tunes and enforce the "directions in music" stated on the cover of the set! Shorter's on soprano sax, playing in an even more angular way – and Dave Holland is on bass, replacing the sound of Ron Carter, getting some rhythmic assistance at times from John McLaughlin, whose sound really helps to shape the record! Titles include 2 side-long tracks – "Shhh/Peaceful" and "In A Silent Way/It's About Time" – both long, and both beautiful! LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition #000897.)
