✨✧ VariousAsian Disco – Disco Divas, Funky Queens & Psych Ladies From Asia From The 70s to Early 90s ... LP
Aberrant, Late 70s/1980s/Early 90s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A rare set of disco tunes we never would have heard otherwise – most from the late 70s , and proof that back in the day, the sound of New York had a huge impact around the globe! Vocals on most cuts are in the local language – tracks here are from Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia – but the instrumentation often has plenty of the funky elements you'd know from American disco tracks – yet often taken into leaner territory, too – and given a slightly different spin in terms of production and arrangement – maybe a bit like some of the clubbier cuts you'd hear on a Bollywood soundtrack. The set's from the same folks who gave us the great Taiwan Disco compilation – and features work by Chailai & Sawanee, Lei Si Si, Ding Dai, Yasmin, Hit Girls, Grace Simon, Fatimah Razy, and Sum Sum & Pan Pan. ✨✧ Dicky ContinentalUn ... CD
Acid Jazz (UK), 2023. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
You may not know the name of Dicky Continental, but you might recognize his work as drummer Rich Thair in Red Snapper – stepping out here on a solo project that takes the groundbreaking sound of that legendary group and really pushes it further! Things are maybe more abstract at times here, but no less funky – as once the clouds of sound at the start of a track begin to part, funkier beats come into the mix and really move things ahead – all in a nicely evolved version of that moodier territory that Red Snapper gave us many years back! Jo Sims adds in soulful vocals to two cuts – "Make Them Disappear" and "Split" – and other cuts include "Simon Says", "Honeysuckle", "Evolution 2", "Graveyard Of Ambition", "Hammersmith", and "Chico Flores". ✨✧ ImpossiblesHot Pepper ... CD
Philips/Get On Down, 1975. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Funky funky Thailand – just about the only 70s funk group we've ever seen from that part of the globe, and a great one at that! The Impossibles work in a tightly-crafted ensemble funk style that's clearly influenced by Kool & The Gang – but which also has the group hitting some well-polished notes on a few of the album's vocal numbers – in a totally cool groove that's got plenty of hard funky riffs at the bottom, sweet horns in the middle, and some great compressed pop vocals on the top! The album's a real lost treasure – one that we've never seen on this side of the Atlantic – and was oddly recorded and issued in Sweden in the mid 70s! But this album is way more than just a musical oddity – as it's super-funky all the way through, with a level of quality that will have it at the top of your crates for a long, long time! Titles include "Hotpepper", "Give It Up", "California", "C'mon Baby", "Easy To Be Hard", "Pretty Thing", "Love Will Keep Us Together", and "Love The Life You Live". CD

Asha PuthliL'Indiana ... CD
Dash/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1978. New Copy ... $12.99 15.99
The only album ever issued in the US by European soul singer Asha Puthli – an artist who was doing some great spacey funk in the mid 70s, then made a strong shift into tighter grooves in the disco years! This album's a great blend of Asha's earlier vocal style and some of the newer clubby sounds from Euro clubs – kind of a mix of porno sleaze and Munich soul – and the arrangements have enough of a funky kick in them to keep things interesting – and a vibe that really warrants the record coming out on TK over here in the US! Titles include "Mr Moonlight", "Music Machine", "There Is A Party Tonight", "Legend Of Thais", and "I'll See You Around". CD

✨✧ Nico FidencoBlack Emanuelle Goes East (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1976. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Emanuelle goes east, and picks up some cool exotic touches to add to her more familiar funky grooves! The soundtrack's a really nice change of flavor from Nico Fidenco – still every bit as groovy as his other Emanuelle scores, but mixed with some earthy percussion, haunting flute lines, and cool sonic elements that definitely echo the eastern setting of the movie – all while foregrounding the Euro sex that's clearly the main item on the menu! This mix of sounds easily makes the album one of the most sophisticated Emanuelle soundtracks in the series – one that's sure to appeal to more serious soundtrack collectors, as well as lovers of the cheese that the series came to stand for. Titles include "Red Hot Wax", "Unavoidable", "Of Your Body", "Thailand Sweet Sound", "Like A Sailing Ship", "Orient Riders", "Body To Body", "Bellies Orient Dance", and "Sudden Ride". 21 tracks – all remastered, and presented here in a limited package with a poster, too! CD
(Limited numbered edition.)
