Sarah VaughanViva Vaughan ... LP
Mercury, 1964. Near Mint- ... $39.99
One of Sarah Vaughan's first albums of Latin-tinged tracks – showing the roots of her interest in Brazilian music that would develop even more fully into the 70s. The record features a large group arranged and conducted by Frank Foster – with a host of jazz soloists, plus Latin percussion by the likes of Willie Bobo, Jose Mangual, and Willie Rodriguez. Titles include lively versions of "Jive Samba", "The Boy From Ipanema", "Mr Lucky", "Quiet Nights", and "Moment Of Truth". Tasty stuff – and very groovy! LP, Vinyl record album
(Mid 70s Japanese stereo promo – SFX-10523 – with obi and insert. Cover has some edge wear, spotty aging, and a bumped corner.)

✨✧ AliveCity Life ... LP
Alive, 1982. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A standout classic from the Bay Area scene – a wicked batch of grooves from an all-girl jazz combo! The singer in the group is Rhiannon – and she's got a bit of a Flora Purim feel – soaring one minute, dreamy the next – just right for the combo's blend of Fender Rhodes, piano, bass, drums, and percussion. There's a really classic feel to the set – and Rhiannon alternates nicely between scatted and sung lyrics – most famously on the album's classic cover of "Skindo Le Le", which is almost better known than the original by Viva Brasil! Other great cuts include a version of Cedar Walton's "Afreaka", Miles Davis' "Four", and the titles "What Is Life", "Happy Ending", and "City Life". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear and is bent a bit at the edges.)

Jimmy WitherspoonSpoon ... LP
Reprise, 1961. Near Mint- ... $0.99 7.99
Mellow blues with a touch of jazz – a really great session cut by Jimmy Witherspoon, with backings by Bob Florence – played by a smallish group that includes Gerald Wilson, Herbie Harper, Earl Palmer, Gerry Wiggins, and Teddy Edwards! The sound here is nicely subdued – not that hokey, overdone blues-based mode used already as a "revival" of the genre in the early 60s – and instead a smokey, adult, sophisticated approach that was very much in keeping with Witherspoon's best talents, and that sound of his that paved the way for bigger crossover names in the 60s. Titles include "Blues Serenade", "Music Maestro Please", "Don't Worry Bout Me", "Lover Come Back To Me", "Do Nothin Till You Hear From Me", and "Just One More Chance". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono tri-color Pop Series pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear, some aging, and a small sticker in back.)

✨✧ Jimmy ScottIf You Only Knew (black & white cover) ... LP
Savoy, Mid 50s. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Beautiful 50's material from Jimmy, and some of the best recordings you could ever find by him! The style is classic, with Jimmy's light wispy voice floating over the top of melancholy arrangements of tracks like "Address Unknown", "It's Over", "Am I Wrong", and "I'll Never Deceive You". Sure, his revival years have been pretty good – but this is the real deal, and the record's darn hard to find! LP, Vinyl record album
(Maroon label stereo pressing with Bestway stamp. Cover has light wear, a small rip on the opening held by clear tape, and appears to be autographed by the artist.)

✨✧ Shirley HornEmbers & Ashes ... LP
Stereocraft, 1960. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
An early album by Shirley, and a haunting batch of lonely songs of lost love that has Shirley singing with her trio of Joe Benjamin and Herb Lovelle. The material's very much in keeping with the "classic" sound that's been so popular during her recent revival, and the record stands as one of her best of the 60's. Even when she's doing standards like "Day By Day", "I Thought About You", and "Like Someone In Love", she manages to bring her own sense of warmth and emotion to the songs, and makes them sound as if they've come from her heart, and not just the pens of New York songwriters. Great stuff, and a darn tough record to find. LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo red label pressing with deep groove. Cover has split seams with clear tape repair, surface wear & aging.)

✨✧ Swingle SingersGoing Baroque ... LP
Philips, 1964. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A groovy groovy treasure! The work of The Swingle Singers is well known to any fan of 60s French tunes – as their groundbreaking approach to vocalese had a huge influence on other pop, easy, and soundtrack work of the time. This nicely-done set features jazz scat versions of tunes by all three members of the Bach family, Handel, and Vivaldi – with tracks that include "Air", "Badinerie", "Gigue", "Prelude No 7", "Solfeggietto", "Allegro", and "Preambule". LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing with deep groove.)

✨✧ Kathy BarrFollow Me ... LP
RCA, 1957. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Kathy, we'd follow you anywhere – not just for your sultry look on the cover of this album, but for your warm and wonderful vocals throughout the set! The notes describe Barr as "vibrant, vivacious, vital, and full of volcanic tenderness too" – and given the presentation of the tunes here, we'd certainly find it hard to disagree. Kathy's got a great way with a torchy mellow tune, but shines even better on some of the more uptempo numbers – scored nicely by Jerry Fielding with a slightly jazzy undercurrent that really pushes the dynamic edge in Barr's vocals. Titles include "Love Is Here To Stay", "Cuddle Up A Little Closer", "How Long Has This Been Going On", "I'm Just Wild About Harry", "Bye Bye Blackbird", "Day In Day Out", and "Fine & Dandy". LP, Vinyl record album
