A really stunning album from Bebel
Gilberto, and one that sheds all the trappings of previous sets to get right to the core of her talents! The album's a tribute to her father,
Joao Gilberto – as you might guess from the title – and the presentation of the music is often right up there with
Joao's classic self-titled set from 1973 – very spare, often just voice and guitar – but in a way that somehow feels even richer than Bebel's music in any other sort of setting! Her voice has just gotten even more beautiful over the years, and more expressive too – and here, she works the kind of subtle magic that would have made
Joao proud – on titles that include "Caminhos Cruzados", "Eclipse", "Voce E Eu", "E Preciso Predoar", "Adeus America", "O Pato", "Eu Vim Da Bahia", and "Ela E Carioca".
