Sire, 1984/1999. Used ... Out Of Stock
Way more than just a live album – as the record features material from the film of the same name – a tremendous stage performance that begins with solo David Byrne, then has the group building up as the set moves on – adding in more musicians and instruments with each new step, at a level that traces the richness of the group's sound as it emerged on the Speaking In Tongues album that was the tour that spawned the concert and the film! Because of that shift throughout, the record's way more than just a live concert – and very different than the group's previous live album too – as the performances here are markedly different, and distinct from their studio renditions – with very unusual takes on titles that include "Psycho Killer", "Swamp", "Slippery People", "Burning Down The House", "Girlfriend Is Better", "Once In A Lifetime", "What A Day That Was", "Life During Wartime", and "Take Me To The River" – plus 7 previously unreleased live tracks. Sire/Warner, Early 70s. Used ... Out Of Stock
An excellent primer for fans of blacksploitation soundtracks! The set was put together by Ice T as an homage to all the great black action films of the 70s – and it's a good selection of vocal hits from scores that may well be known more for their instrumental funk. And sure, the selection's a bit basic – but it's also a good place to start, and hearing the vocal numbers is kind of a different hook into the films than the usual instrumental riffs. Titles include "Love Doctor" by Millie Jackson, "I Choose You" by Willie Hutch, "Blowin Your Mind" by OC Smith, "Are You Man Enough" by The Four Tops, "Make A Resolution" by The Impressions, "Across 110th Street" by Bobby Womack, "Theme Of Foxy Brown" by Willie Hutch, "Trouble Man" by Marvin Gaye, "Theme From Shaft" by Isaac Hayes, and "Pusherman" by Curtis Mayfield. ✨✧ Miklos RozsaGolden Voyage Of Sinbad – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ... CD
Prometheus (Belgium), 1973. Used ... Out Of Stock
40s soundtrack genius Miklos Rozsa makes a strange comeback here – recording in Rome for a 70s Sinbad film with special effects by Ray Harryhausen. The composer describes the recording as being in "his finest oriental mood" – which means that it's got lots of eastern themes laid out by Rozsa in orchestral format. Titles include "Temple Of The Oracle", "Sinbad's Decision", "Koura's End", "Night Time", "The Siren", "Making Of The Homunculus", "Night Time", and "The Destiny". CD
