✨✧ Joe JacksonNight & Day ... LP
A&M, 1982. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A heck of a great record – and we don't mind saying it! After knocking around in territory that ran from new wave to neo ska, retro swing, and other assorted genres, Joe Jackson really emerged with a strong voice on this 1982 classic. The album's a loving tribute to New York – and is steeped in Jackson's growing knowledge of Latin and jazz music – performed here by a great group that really sets things up right, and recorded in a warmly acoustic mode that was quite striking for the time! The tracks on the set hold up incredibly well over the years – getting past the cliches that later plagued Jackson's career, and reminding us of how great he was at his best. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some spotty stains at the center in front and minor blemishes in back. Label on Side B has some stains.)

A real step forward for Joe Jackson, and a record that has plenty of jazz in the mix – as you might guess from its cover's hommage to a Sonny Rollins 50s album on Blue Note! Titles include "You Can't Get What You Want", "Be My Number Two", "Loisaida", "Happy Ending", "Not Here Not Now", "Cha Cha Loco", and "The Verdict". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Wanda JacksonThere's A Party Goin On ... LP
Capitol, 1959. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of the fantastic early Capitol albums from the young Wanda Jackson – music cut when she was much more of a rockabilly artist than a country singer – with a raw vibe that maybe set a whole new standard for female work in postwar pop music! Jackson's as bold here as any of her male contemporaries – but is also able to match raspy charmp with some sweeter elements – balancing things out beautifully, as she storms with her own tunes, and also transforms others. A young Roy Clark is in the group on some sweet electric guitar – and titles include "There's A Party Goin On", "It Doesn't Matter Anymore", "Lonely Week-Ends", "Kansas City", "Fallin", "Hard Headed Woman", "Tongue Tied", "Sparkling Brown Eyes", and "Man We Had A Party". A really cool set, one that's led and produced by singer/guitarist Lee Jackson – in the midst of lots of other guitars, both acoustic and electric – all recorded with a nicely spacious vibe, and blended with organ, mellotron, and percussion! There's a great psych folk vibe to the set – very unique! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Wanda JacksonHoney Bop (10 inch 45rpm LP) ... LP
Bear Family (Germany), Late 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A really great collection that brings together some of the most hard-rocking tracks from Wanda Jackson's early years on Capitol Records – a time when the singer became an instant legend for her hard-edged way of putting over a tune! At a time when the early rock scene was dominated by male singers, Jackson cut a very striking figure as one of the few who could weave together elements of hillbilly and R&B like the best young singers at Sun Records – captured here with a rawness that's very different than most of the mainstream productions that Capitol were putting down for the pop market! The guitar is great – as raw and ragged as the vocals – and titles include "Baby Loves Him", "Mean Mean Man", "You Don't Know Baby", "Let's Have A Party", "Funnel Of Love", "Savin My Love", "Honey Bop", "Tongue Tied", "Cool Love", "Hot Dog That Made Him Mad", and the classic "Fujiyama Mama". Cher3614 Jackson Highway (180 gram pressing – with bonus LP) ... LP
Atco/Run Out Groove, 1969. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... $29.99 34.99
Recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound, the studio referenced in the title of the album, and presented in a wonderful cover image that has Cher standing outside the tiny facility with a host of legendary studio players that include Eddie Hinton, Jimmy Johnson, Barry Beckett, and Roger Hawkins! Sonny's also standing in the crowd in the photo, but he's as in the background as he is on this set – as Cher's singing alone in a soul-styled mode that's befits the setting of the album. Titles include a funky take on "I Walk On Guilded Splinters", plus "For What It's Worth", "Cry Like A Baby", "Save The Children", "Do Right Woman", and "Dock Of The Bay". Plus, the 2LP set features a huge amount of bonus tracks – 11 more numbers from a whole second Muscle Shoals album, but which was never issued – with titles that include "Momma Look Sharp", "Chastity's Song", "It Gets Me Where I Want To Go", "Easy To Be Hard", "I Believe", "You've Made Me So Very Happy", and "The First Time". LP, Vinyl record album
(180 gram clear & purple vinyl pressing. Includes the insert.)

✨✧ Nancy Sinatra & Lee HazlewoodNancy & Lee ... LP
Reprise, Late 60s. Very Good- ... $11.99
One of the weirdest, wildest pop albums of the 60s – maybe the crowning achievement of both Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood – two artists who'd worked together before, but never with an intensity this great! The record is overflowing with all the great touches you'd expect from Lee – that sense of spacious production, all-adult performance, and deep-tinged vocals that are a perfect counterpoint for the lighter style of Nancy – almost as if he's continuing to urge her to adulthood over the course of the set – which he certainly does through the sensuality of the performance! The album features the insanely wonderful "Some Velvet Morning" – a pop duet unlike anything you've ever heard – plus Hazlewood tunes "Summer Wine", "Sand", "Lady Bird", "I've Been Down So Long", and "Sundown Sundown" – but even the remakes are stunning, and include "Storybook Children", "Jackson", and "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling". (Vocalists, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album
(Orange and tan label stereo pressing. Includes Reprise inner sleeve. Cover has ring wear.)

James Blood UlmerAmerica – Do You Remember The Love? ... LP
Blue Note, 1987. Near Mint- ... $8.99
Ulmer on Blue Note – who'd a thunk it? And oddly, although the album's on one of the most jazz-based labels at the time, it's also one of Ulmer's most rock-oriented – with strong lead vocals on nearly every track, and an overall style that's as bluesy as it is experimentally jazzy. Ulmer's clearly emerged as a star in his own right (or own mind) by the time of the album – and there's less of the shared group dynamic of the harmelodic years, and more of a style that's set up to support his lead presence. Players include Bill Laswell, Ronald Shannon Jackson, and Nicky Skopelitis – and titles include "I Belong In The USA", "Lady Blue", "After Dark", "Black Sheep", and "Show Me Your Love America". (Jazz, Rock) LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the Blue Note inner sleeve. Cover has a cutout hole and light wear.)

Frank Zappa & The MothersGrand Wazoo ... LP
Bizarre/Reprise, 1972. Sealed Gatefold ... $19.99 33.99
An album that has Frank Zappa really continuing to push the instrumental complexity of his music – showing the world that he's not just another long-haired casualty from the 60s, and instead an artist who just kept on getting deeper and deeper into his own really unique groove! The record's overflowing with instrumental tracks that some might argue had a huge impact on jazz fusion – especially that mid 70s moment when the door opened in jazz to some more rock-like solos and rhythms – and that link is maybe no surprise, given that the lineup includes work from older jazzmen who include Billy Byers on trombone and the great Fred Jackson on saxes – plus George Duke on keyboards and Ernie Watts on c-melody sax. As always, the drums of Aynsley Dunbar are superb – and titles include "The Grand Wazoo", "Eat That Question", "Blessed Relief", "For Calvin & His Next Two Hitch-Hikers", and "Cleatus Awreetus-Awrightus". LP, Vinyl record album
(180 gram brown marbled vinyl pressing, still sealed with hype sticker.)

✨✧ VariousChoctaw Ridge – New Fables Of The American South 1968 to 1973 ... LP
Ace (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy 2LP ... $28.99 36.99
A fabulous look at a new wave of music that hit the American scene at the end of the 60s – sophisticated songs with a deep sense of narrative that went way beyond the usual – first sprung by the world of country music, but with an influence that went on to touch all other styles too! This set goes right to the core – and brings together cuts from the hippest songwriters of the period, delivered in versions that may well be the best to ever make it on records – including a few tunes that will really come as a surprise if you think you know the artists from their hits! As you'd guess from the title, the world here is very similar to that in "Ode To Billie Joe" – a world that's also given great illumination by the detailed notes within. Titles include "Endless Miles Of Highway" by Jerry Reed, "If Only She Had Stayed" by Chris Gantry, "July 12, 1939" by Charlie Rich, "What Am I Doing In LA" by Nat Stuckey, "The House Song" by Lee Hazlewood, "Mr Jackson's Got Nothing To Do" by John Hartford, "Widow Wimberley" by Tony Joe White, "Mr Walker It's All Over" by Billie Jo Spears, "Drivin Nails In The Walls" by Waylon Jennings, "Four Shades Of Love" by Henson Cargill, "The Back Side Of Dallas" by Jeanne C Riley, "Way Before The Time Of Towns" by Hoyt Axton, "Down From Dover" by Dolly Parton, "Fabulous Body & Smile" by Sir Robert Charles Griggs, and "Why Can't I Come Home" by Ed Bruce. ✨✧ Johnny CashJohnny Cash At Folsom Prison ... LP
Columbia, 1968. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the greatest live albums ever, and probably THE best album Johnny Cash ever recorded! In 1969 Cash had more angst than you could shake a stick at – he just kicked drugs, and he hadn't had a big hit in years, so his respectful and thoughtful empathy for the audience of inmates not only cemented his persona as the real deal, but carries an air of dizzying emotion throughout the set. Appropriately filled with his darkest tunes, Folsom is one of the few cases in which a live recording of a hitmakers catalog is stronger and more vital than the studio versions. Includes "Folsom Prison Blues", "Dark As A Dungeon", "Cocaine Blues", "25 Minutes To Go", "Orange Blossom Special", "The Long Black Veil", "Dirty Old Egg-Suckin' Dog", plus "Jackson" and "Give My Love To Rose" featuring June Carter. ✨✧ Warren ZevonWarren Zevon ... LP
Asylum, 1976. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An early gem from Warren Zevon – his first for Asylum and a creative peak – with some of his best remembered songs, and deeper album cuts that are just as great! Zevon's dark sense of humor comes through here, especially on the all time classic "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", but there's some sweeter and more tender material, too. Produced by Jackson Browne and featuring a hell of a great group on the sessions, from Phil Everly, to Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, Carl Wilson, Bobby Keyes and others. "Frank & Jesse James", "Mohammed's Radio", "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead", "Carmelita", and "Backs Turned Looking Down The Path". LP, Vinyl record album

A great set of booze-themed songs from the glory days of country music – and a package that includes some well-chosen work from singers we really love a lot! The set features names you might know from other, bigger tracks – but singing here about a preference for alcohol, often with a message about the price they've got to pay for loving it so much! Titles include "Hell's Angels" by Johnny Bond, "Bury The Bottle With Me" by Darrel McCall, "It's Nothing To Me" by Dick Curless, "Ship In The Bottle" by Stonewall Jackson, "Sleeping Like A Baby With A Bottle In My Mouth" by Eddie Noack, "Bottle Bottle" by Jim Ed Brown, and "I'm Gonna Make Like A Snake" by Ernest Tubb.
