Aldemaro Romero/Charlie ByrdOnda Nueva – New Wave ... LP
Columbia, 1971. Sealed ... $24.99
A swirling batch of easy groovers – the light and lively orchestrations of Aldemaro Romero, augmented by lead guitar from Charlie Byrd! The sound is Latin-inflected with a soaring finish – part 60s easy, part bossa-inspired orchestration, with touches of Italian soundtrack styles as well. If you know any of Aldemaro's other records of the time, you know how groovy this one is – and it's made all the more so by Charlie Byrd's nice guitar work. Titles include "You Get Me Crazy", "It Never Ends", "Romance", "Moliendo Cafe", "El Gavilan", "Pajarillo En Onda Nueva", and "El Catire". (Vocalists, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album
(Sealed 70s pressing! Cover has a small cutout mark.)

Stanley BlackBlack Magic ... LP
Phase 4/London, 1976. Near Mint- ... $2.99 4.99
Amazing work from Stanley Black – honest! The album's far funkier and far more dynamic than most of Stanley's other albums in the past – and is a sweet electric 70s session with plenty of elements you'd expect to find in some of the Brit Easy or sound library albums of the time! The arrangements are full, with a fair bit of electricity – but also some heavy percussion on the bottom on some funkier tracks too. Titles include versions of "Love In The Rain", "All It Takes Is Two", "Berimbau", "Wave", "Shaft", "The Hustle", and "Volare". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear and a cutout hole.)

Sandro Brugnolini/CarniniBeat Drammatico, Underground, Pop Elettronic (with bonus CD) ... LP
Fonit/Schema (Italy), 1973. New Copy ... $30.99 34.99
Exactly the kind of record that makes us love sound library records so much – and definitely the sort that sets the style apart from anything else we can think of! Both Sandro Brugnolini and Giorgio Carnini turn in some great work here – a mindblowing mix of modes over the space of ten short tracks – some tunes a cascading array of instrumentation, in a hip groove that's neither American jazz or soundtrack funk, but a special space of its own! Other tunes use an electronic approach that's years ahead of its time – as groovy as 60s analogue, but a lot darker, too – in ways that the rest of the world might not touch until the German new wave. The balance is almost even between swinging groovers and darker electronic cuts – and titles include "Grinta", "Azione CIA", "Scalo Clandestino", "Alambicco Cibernetico", "Strutture Generative", "Omicido Bianco", and "CIA Massacre". Arthur LymanLush Exotica – The Exotic Sound Of Arthur Lyman ... CD
Righteous (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy 2CD ... $15.99 24.99
An overstuffed collection of work from the great Arthur Lyman – initially known as one of the hip percussionists in the Martin Denny group, then a huge exotica star on his own – thanks to wonderful work on vibes and a whole host of other instruments! As with Denny, Lyman's music was always tied strongly to themes of the Pacific – part of the wave of interest in the new statehood of Hawaii as many Americans made the trip for vacations – but also a key moment in a musical legacy that's really stood the test of time over the years – as tropical elements are brought into play with styles borrowed from jazz, Latin, and easy – all to forge a new sort of groove. The 2CD set features 48 gems from Lyman's best years – all hand-picked by Lux & Ivy – and titles include "Trigger Fantasy", "Leis Of Jazz", "Sim Sim", "Sea Breeze", "Kalua", "Bahia", "Jungle Jalopy", "Busy People", "Happy Voodoo", "Otome San", "Blue Sands", "Bwana A", "Quiet Village", "Lullaby Of Birdland", and "Dahil Sayo". Tony Rizzi & PacificSurfin' Pacific ... LP
Morrhythm, 1982. Sealed ... $11.99
A really groovy little record – lots of tight guitars from Tony Rizzi – but served up in this sunny style that's almost an update of earlier A&M Records modes! The group features four more guitars – true Tony Rizzi style – plus sweet Fender Rhodes from Tom Rainer, and backing vocals on a few cuts too – almost Brasil 66-style! Titles include "Wave", "Music To Watch Girls By", "Summer Samba", "Sunny", and "Huntington Beach". (Jazz, Now Sound) LP, Vinyl record album

Lalo SchifrinPiano, Strings, & Bossa Nova (aka Insensatez) (LP sleeve edition) ... CD
MGM/Verve, 1963. Used ... $9.99
A wonderful album from Lalo Schfrin! This one mixes together bossa piano and sweeping string arrangements – in a style that's incredibly dark-edged and driving, with a sound that's at once spooky and lovely – a dancing groove that makes the best tracks really sparkle! The album's light years away from other "piano with strings" albums of the time – proof that Schifrin was easily one of the most imaginative forces of his generation, and an arranger who really helped reshape music in the 60s. Titles include the incredible version of "Maria" that's played quite often by Gilles Peterson – plus loads of other nice ones, like "The Wave", "Insensatez", "You And Me", "Murmurio", "Rapaz De Bem", "Rio After Dark", and "Time For Love". (Jazz, Now Sound) CD
(2002 LP sleeve edition with domestic obi. Small cutout hole in one corner.)

✨✧ Carl Henry BrueggenIdler/Man's Favorite Sport/Rum Toddy ... CD
CHB, 2004. Used ... Out Of Stock
Genius work from a man who's ready to take on the best bossa arrangers of the 60s! Guitarist Carl Henry Breuggen may hail from Chicago, but he's got a sound that's as sunny as Rio and the Italian Riviera all put together – a wonderful wash of light strings, bossa rhythms, gentle guitar, and wordless female vocals that are enough to rival the best Italian soundtracks of the glory years. The production on the entire set is incredible – arranged with Claus Ogerman-like perfection, and recorded at a level that's far beyond that of most bossa-revival work these days. All three tunes fit together perfectly – and although the CD's a short one, it's completely without fault to our ears – and is a title that we're gladly stocking next to classics like Jobim's Stoneflower and Wave albums for CTI! ✨✧ Tony MottolaTony & Strings/Close To You (SACD quadrophonic multi-channel) ... CD
Project 3/Vocalion (UK), Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A pair of early 70s easy listening gems – back to back on an SACD! First up is Tony & Strings – on which the sweet guitar of Tony Mottola mixes with some well-arranged strings – all given the lean presentation of Enoch Light in the 70s, which makes for music that's a great change from the way such sounds would have been handled a decade before! Titles include "It's Going To Take Some Time", "Nature Boy", "The Candy Man", "Song Sung Blue", "Street Of Dreams", "Theme From The Godfather", and the originals "Marcello's Mazurka" and "Bossa La La La". Close To You is a sweet set that's billed as "guitar for lovers", and which has the lean sound of Tony Mottola updated nicely with some Project 3 touches for the 70s! The record's got an unusual mix of tracks – some 70s, some older, and even a Christmas tune too – and Bucky Pizzarelli and Dick Hyman make guest appearances too! Tites include "Wave", "Didn't We", "Close To You", "Moon River/What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life", "Yesterday When I Was Young", "We've Only Just Begun", and "The Christmas Song". CD
