Japanese drummer Yoichi Kobayashi
serves up a mighty tribute to the late, great Art Blakey – with a combo that features musicians who were all part of his Jazz Messengers
group over the years! The album's got a rock-solid, romping groove that would have made Blakey proud – and as with his own work, Kobayashi
gives plenty of space for the soloist to stretch out and really feel their space – a good thing too, given that the lineup includes Robin Eubanks on trombone, Philip Harper on trumpet, Vincent Herring on alto, David Kikoski on piano, and Essiet Essiet on bass! Tunes include many classics from the Blakey songbook, but Kobayashi
also wrote the title track – and songs include "Niagara Shuffle", "Bu's Delight", "Dat Dere", "For Heaven's Sake", "Ping Pong", "Chicken & Dumplings", and "Along Came Betty".
