VariousIndustrial Accident – The Story of Wax Trax! Records ... CD
Wax Trax, 1980s/1990s. New Copy ... $15.99
A great little companion to the excellent film about the famous Wax Trax record store and record label – a set that brings together rare and unreleased material from some of the artists who made the company legendary back in the day! The album's the first in many years to bear the Wax Trax name – and it's like a great leap way backwards, past the darker later days of the label – to a time when the Chicago imprint was a wellspring of creative activity in the darker side of the spectrum – and a key link between our city and underground scenes around the globe. Titles include "Animal Nation" by Revolting Cocks, "Envoye" by Young Gods, "Me & My Ding Dong" by Pankow, "A Daisy Chain 4 Satan (acid & flowers mix)" and "Acid Xians" by My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, "Leben Tod" by Laibach, "I Want More" by Fini Tribe, "Vogue (apart version)" by KMFDM, "Shipwreck" by Chris Connelly, and "Tonight We Murder (orig version)", "Cause We're In Love Again", and "Everyday Is Halloween (live)" by Ministry. ✨✧ VariousIndustrial Accident – The Story of Wax Trax! Records (Blu-Ray – deluxe edition with bonus disc) ... DVD
Wax Trax, 2019. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A beautiful tribute to one of the greatest record stores of all time – and a place that was crucial in the formation of what we do at Dusty Groove too! Wax Trax Records began as a store in Denver in the mid 70s – influencing a generation of young punks in that city, before then moving to Chicago a few years later – where it became a key outpost for all sorts of underground culture from around the globe! We grew up as young shoppers in the store, and it forever changed the way we thought about music – and this fantastic film really gets at everything that made the place great, and then follows the growth of Wax Trax as they launched a label that gave them an even stronger global impact by the end of the 80s. The film's also tells the love store of the couple behind the legend – Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher – and features commentary and contributions from an all-star lineup that includes Steve Albini, Dave Grohl, Jello Biafra, Al Jourgensen, David J, Richard 23, Ian Mackaye, Trent Reznor, and many others – plus an insane amount of vintage footage that reminds us how exciting a city Chicago used to be! Special bonus – this package also features 75 more minutes of extra footage – longer parts of the interviews used to create the film. DVD
(Includes over 75 minutes of bonus footage!)

Wax Trax, 1980. New Copy (pic cover, reissue)... $7.99
Two fantastic tracks from this important Chicago punk group – both recorded live on the city's WZRD radio station! "One Eye" has the group really stepping off from the sound of their better-known 12" EP on Wax Trax – slowing down the pace, picking up the bass, and mixing together some dubby elements with their sharp guitar work – backed here by a superb cover of the Gang Of Four classic "Damaged Goods" – given a nice Chicago-styled punk rock twist! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Cherry Red (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 3CD ... $29.99 38.99
A funny thing happened to British music after the initial explosion of punk in the late 70s – it got surprisingly funky, in all sorts of weird ways that helped the new music cross over to the dancefloor – maybe inspired by American funk and soul, but coming off with a very different vibe overall! The basslines are key – and some of these groups really make amazing use of the brooding sounds of the instrument, picked up a few notches in pace – while others might include some snapping drums that could come as a surprise if you were expecting things to only stay in the moody dark corners of the postpunk universe! This package is a great overview of the way the groove picked up on the UK scene at the end of the 70s – very different than American disco, and with an offbeat current that then influenced the New York scene in the early 80s, and went on to have ripples in Chicago, both for Wax Trax and the early house music artists too. 3CD set features a very detailed booklet of notes – and 49 gems by artists who include The Passage, Blue Rondo A La Turk, A Certain Ratio, Tones On Tail, Kissing The Pink, Thomas Leer, Fashion, Wide Boy Awake, Vicious Pink, Modern Romance, C Cat Trance, Animal Magic, Surface Mutants, Furniture, Pop Group, Machine Gun Hogg & Co, Glaxo Babies, Family Fodder, London Underground, Nightmares In Wax, Haircut 100, 23 Skiddoo, Ian Dury, Shock, Visage, Paul Haig, and others. ✨✧ VariousMetal Dance – Industrial, Post Punk, EBM Classics & Rarities 1980 to 1988 ... CD
Strut (UK), 1980s. Used 2 CDs ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The darkest sound of the electronic dancefloor in the 80s – and in fact, one that may well have led to a lot more different activities than just dancing! Unlike other electro work of the time, which was often a more keyboard and drum program-driven take on mainstream dance styles, these grooves are exceptionally dark – and although rhythm, are often less concerned with catchy hooks or easy-stepping riffs – a great illustration of the way the sounds of the leftfield were coming into clubs in the post-disco years! There's a strong emphasis here on the sounds of the UK post-punk electronic scene – particularly the north – with bits of Germany thrown in as well – mixed with some American artists who were clearly picking up the vibe at the time. And together, the music is virtually the blueprint for the Wax Trax/Nettwerk generation to come – although it's far richer and far more compelling overall! Titles include "The Bubblemen Are Coming" by Bubblemen, "Pressure (club)" by 400 Blows, "The Bus" by Executive Slacks, "Dream Games" by Shock, "Divided" by Portion Control, "Amok" by Ledernacken, "The Duke Arrives (12" re-edit)" by John Carpenter & Alan Howarth, "Move" by Schlaflose Nachte, "Surface Tension" by Analysis, "Je Suis Passee (dub)" by Hard Corps, "Invaders Of The Heart (exotic decadent disco mix)" by Jah Wobble, "Metal Dance" by SPK, "Slipping Again" by Naked Lunch, "You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess (UK 12" promo)" by Yello, "Brothers (mix Gabi)" by DAF, "Golpe De Amistad" by Diseno Corbusier, and "Voices" by Neon. ✨✧ MinistryLand Of Rape & Honey ... LP
Sire, 1988. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
A huge moment for Ministry – and the record that strongly brought forward all the underground styles that Al Jourgenson was bringing to the Chicago scene! The vocals and overall sound are a lot rawer than ever before – especially the earliest Ministry music, which was more in a Brit pop mode – and the record is honestly more of a Wax Trax release, as it shows Al's strong links to the industrial underground that had grown up around that Chicago label – as well as a surprising interest in hardcore too. Recorded in both Chicago and London, with some great guest work from Chris Connelly (onetime Dusty Groove employee!) – and titles that include "Deity", "The Missing", "Destruction", "Golden Dawn", "Stigmata", "Land Of Rape & Honey", and "Flashback". LP, Vinyl record album

Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1970s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Sweet female pop from Japan – most of it recorded in the mid 70s, and pulled together in a package that's similar to some of the soundtrack-related collections that Hotwax & Trax have done for the Ultra Vybe label! The sounds here are a bit smoother than those on the soundtrack set, but equally compelling – a blend of Western pop modes of the time with some uniquely Japanese touches – often set to instrumentation that includes lots of keyboards and some occasional funky rhythms. There's a surprisingly soulful feel to a number of the tunes, one that gets past the Japanese-only lyrics – and speaking of that, the notes and titles are all in Japanese so we can't tell you more – but the music's pretty compelling!
