✨✧ Vangeis (Vangelis O Papathanassiou)Earth ... LP
Vertigo, 1973. Near Mint- ... $29.99
Very cool early work from Vangelis – an album recorded right after he left Aphrodite's Child, and with a sound that's not that different than the group's final album 666 – especially in the compelling sonic range that's used throughout! Some tracks are straight ahead, some are experimental, and there's some very interesting keyboards, guitars, and unusual production. Titles include "The City", "Come On", "We Were All Uprooted", "A Song", "Watch Out", "Sunny Earth", and "Ritual". LP, Vinyl record album
(US spaceship label pressing.)

Vangelis/New American OrchestraBlade Runner ... CD
WEA, 1982. Used ... $3.99
One of the best-remembered moments of music from the enigmatic Vangelis – a set that's maybe a bit darker and more moody than some of his other records of the time – thanks to the Blade Runner setting provided by director Ridley Scott! Vangelis works plenty of familiar early 80s soundtrack elements here – lots of keyboards and electronic wash, plus even a bit of almost-cheesy sax at times – but he makes the whole thing sound nicely off-kilter at most moments, with just the sort of awkward replication that fits perfectly with the narrative theme of the film. There's some beautiful exotic currents that are maybe even more captivating here on record than you might remember from their use onscreen – and titles include "Memories Of Green", "Tales Of The Future", "Rachel's Song", "Blush Response", "Lone More Kiss Dear", and "Tears In Rain". ✨✧ VangelisWho Killed The Dragon – The BYG Sessions ... LP
BYG/Finders Keepers (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Outrageously tripped out, hypnotic funky psychedelia from Vangelis Papathanassiou – wholly amazing numbers from the late 60s & Early 70 – BYG sessions that range from ultra spacey psyche to more keyboard flavored proggy grooves! Two of the tracks are credited to a collaborative Alpha Beta – the really heady and amazing "Astral Abuse" and the equally trippy and funkier "Who Killed" which each start a side – while the more keyboard and proggy gems "Stuffed Tomato" and "The Dragon" by Vangelis close the sides. ✨✧ VangelisAmore (180 gram colored vinyl pressing – with poster) ... LP
Monster Melodies (France), 1973. New Copy Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Great early work from Vangelis – recorded years before his new age drippy stretch, at a time when he was fresh off work in the amazing Aphrodite's Child, where he really learned to make some amazing sounds on his keyboards! There's a nicely spacey vibe to the set, and some really dark currents too – as Vangelis plays lots of Fender Rhodes, plus a bit of percussion and mellotron – often in offbeat ways, and with contributions from Laurent De Gasperis on flute, percussion, and mandolin. Although a soundtrack, the music is plenty visual on its own away from the film – and titles include "Giudecca", "Venezia", "Ruga Do Pozlic", "Marina", "La Contessina", and "Ma Dove Sei". ✨✧ Aphrodite's ChildIt's Five O'Clock ... LP
Mercury, 1969. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Brilliantly baroque psych from Aphrodite's Child – a stone classic cut while the group was in exile in Paris – heavy on drums, and with soaring keyboards that really work wonders with the vocals! Given that the group features a young Vangelis and Demis Roussos, there's plenty of raw power here – and the energy of the record is quite different than later work by either artist – very bold, and political too – with hardly any signs of their Greek roots, yet a sense of myth and majesty that are undeniable. There's surprising hooks to the tunes at times – and titles include "It's Five O'Clock", "Wake Up", "Annabela. "Let Me Love, Let Me Live", "Funky Mary", "Good Time So Fine", and "Marie Jolie".
