Chad & JeremyOf Cabbages & Kings ... LP
Columbia, 1967. Very Good ... $19.99
A dream of a record from Chad & Jeremy – a fantastic bit of psychedelic pop produced by Gary Usher! The album's got quite a different feel than the rest of the duo's work – as their standard Brit pop style is augmented by lots of extra strings and woodwinds, super-baroque in a beautiful post-Pet Sounds sort of way. The songs are wonderful, too – with themes on the rise and fall of modern life, very much in a Kinks sort of style – with titles like "Busman's Holiday", "Rest In Peace", "Family Way", "Can I See You", and the extended "Progress Suite". Plus, the CD features 6 bonus tracks, a few previously unissued – including "Manners Maketh Man", "Cautionary Tale", "Sister Marie", and "Painted Dayglow Smile". LP, Vinyl record album

Fabio Frizzi/Walter Rizzati & Alessandro BlonksteinerLucio Fulci's Gates Of Hell Trilogy (City Of The Living Dead/The Beyond/House By The Cemetery) (3CD set) ... CD
Beat (Italy), 1980/1981. New Copy 3CD ... $44.99
Three Italian horror classics – packaged here in a single set! First up is Fabio Frizzi's score for Nella Citta Dei Morti Viventi/City Of The Living Dead – exactly the kind of set that shows why he was one of the true masters of Italian horror! The sounds here are a mix of electric and acoustic elements – but the latter are often played in offbeat ways that they really sound electric – making for a moody mix of music that goes way beyond the usual spare slasher keyboards! A few numbers use wordless vocals, while others have nicely stepping strings – and a beefier bassline comes into play on a few standout funk tracks as well. Titles include "Toward Dawn", "Fatti Misteriosi", "Apoteosi Del Mistero", "Occhi Di Brace", and "Verso L'Alba". Next is Frizzi's Beyond/E Tu Vivrai Nel Terrore L'Aldila – a very spooky soundtrack – and one that stands out as one of the best-remembered from this important second generation of Italian horror! The record's got less of the atonal orchestrations and funk/thriller modes of a few years before – and moves into the spare, eerie quality that John Carpenter helped usher in – with lots of crashing piano lines, atonal guitar parts, and weird descending chords that feel like they're going to suck you into the deep! There's some very nice and sparing use of synthesizer within the score – just the right bit to add a creepy edge, but maybe not as much as on other synth-heavy soundtracks from the time – and titles include "Voci Dal Nulla", "Oltre La Soglia", "Suono Aperto", "Verso L'Ignoto", and "Giro Di Blues". Walter Rizzati's score for Quella Villa Accanto Al Cimitero/House By The Cemetery has lots of keyboards – in a spare, spooky soundtrack from the early 80s Italian horror scene – a blood-dripping masterpiece from director Lucio Fulcio! Walter Rizzati's music here is heavy on the kinds of electric touches you'd hear from both Goblin or John Carpenter – and often paced at a level that's somewhere between the pair – not as jamming as Goblin, but a bit fuzzier than Carpenter – a blend that makes for some really wonderful numbers that are plenty creepy here on their own – even away from the images on the screen! There's plenty of great bits that creep up on you slowly – and others that jump mercilessly from dark corners – on titles that include "Quella Villa", "I Remember", "Incontro", "Blonk Monster", "Verso Il Terrore", "Voci Dal Terrore", "Tema Bambino", and "Chi Sta Arrivando". Super StocksSurf Route 101 ... LP
Capitol, 1964. Sealed ... $149.99
Gary Usher's Super Stocks go full bore into surf pop on Surf Route 101 – the excellent results of a Beach Boys knock off as created by a studio genius on par with Usher and his excellent team of players! The Super Stocks, as many other Gary Usher projects, are much more adventurous in their sailing of the 60s pulp waves than most contemporaries – and these buzzing little period gems are a prime example! Tracks include "Surf Route 101", "Muscle Beach Party", "Ventura", "Santa Barbara", "Surfin' Scene", "Balboa Island", "Oceanside", "My First Love", "Midnight Run", "Malibu Blues", "Newport Beach" and more. Ace (UK), 1960s. New Copy ... $11.99 18.99
Hard grooving surf pop from the early-to-mid 60s – and this one's from the ladies – sun soaked, pulpy surf and drag strip rockers featuring The Honeys, Donna Loren, The Surfettes, Andrea Carroll, The Westwoods, Ellie Gee & The Jets, Dee Dee Sharp, Little Pattie & The Statesmen and many more! The solo and girl group vocals are a great mix of sweetness and rebelliousness, and the same could be said for the songs – which also masterfully mix knowing kitsch and genuine rockers. Players, producers and arrangers include Gary Usher, Lee Hazlewood, Hal Blaine and David Axelrod – and in Ace Records tradition, it comes with a thick booklet of great notes & photos. ✨✧ Jean CarneJean Carne Sings Philadelphia ... CD
Society Hill, 2020. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic tribute to Philly soul – put together by a lady whose classic work helped make the city sound so great! Jean Carne really rose to fame with her Philadelphia International recordings of the late 70s – and helped the label usher in a new level of hip, sophisticated soul that set a whole new standard at the time. And here, Jean looks back not only at those years, but also some other slices of Philly music too – aided and abetted by the great Butch Ingram, whose classic style of production and arranging give the whole record a vibe that's not too different than some of Jean's best work in the 80s. Along the way, Carne gets a bit of help from Don Juan, Glenn Leonard, and Johnny Ingram – on titles that include "What's Come Over Me", "Infant Eyes", "Give It Up", "Bye Bye Baby", "Spirit Of Love", "One Million Miles From The Ground". "Do You Get Enough Love", "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love", and "Hope That We Can Be Together Soon". CD

✨✧ Amy WinehouseAmy Winehouse Collection (Frank/Back To Black/Lioness/Live In London/Rarities) (5CD set) ... CD
Universal, 2000s. New Copy 5CD ... Out Of Stock
Way more than just a box set of the key albums from the all-too-short career of Amy Winehouse – as this massive package also features a wealth of rarities and live tracks – some making their CD debut in this limited collection! The set leads off with Frank – the stunning debut from UK soul singer Amy Winehouse – a vocalist with a sound that's instantly captivating, and which will be with us for years! Amy's clearly cut her chops in jazz, but also has a laidback and soulful personality – easily shifting between modes for the right mood of each song, without any of the pretensions that would ruin an album like this. The backings have a proud stepping feel that fits well with tunes like "In My Bed", "What Is It About Men", "F*ck Me Pumps", and "You Sent Me Flying" – really keeping Amy's spirit fresh throughout the whole set! Next is Back to Black – an incredible album from Amy Winehouse – even way better than her fantastic debut! Although a contemporary soul album, this one's steeped in tradition – soul styles that run the gamut from Detroit down to Kingston, and which are carried off here with a rougher, sharper-edged sound than before! The instrumentation on here is really mindblowing – almost at a Motown level, with isolated instruments really crackling out from the fuller backings – all set to rhythms that snap and bounce, and are almost a bit funky at times. Credit is definitely due to producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi – but Amy's vocals are really tremendous too – classic, but really personal and fresh! Titles include "Rehab", "Just Friends", "Back To Black", "Love Is A Losing Game", "He Can Only Hold Her", "Some Unholy War", and "Me & Mr Jones". Next is Lioness Hidden Treasures – a (sadly) posthumous release from Amy Winehouse – a voice we loved for a couple good years before knowing how troubled she was in real life and now lament the loss of – and this set, largely put together by producer Salaam Remi turned out surprisingly well! It'd be pretty easy to bow to cynicism, but for our money, there's more than enough strong stuff here. It features production by Remi, plus Mark Ronson on a couple tracks, and it's a mix of styles that ably demonstrate Amy's depth as an interpreter. There's some great, kinda late night jazzy soul numbers, classic level 60s R&B and thoroughly modern hip hop soul – all with strong vocal performances from Amy. Includes "Our Day Will Come", "Between The Cheats", "Tears Dry (Original Version)", "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (2011)", "Like Smoke" feat Nas (and some eerily timely lyricism, as of this album's release date), "Valerie ('68 Version)", "Half Time", "The Girl From Ipanema", "Half Time", "Body & Soul" with Tony Bennett, "A Song For You" and more. Next is the 2LP set Live In London – the vinyl debut of material from the DVD of the same name – with titles that include "Just Friends", "Cherry", "Back To Black", "Wake Up Alone", "Tears Dry On Their Own", "He Can Only Hold Her/Doo Wop (That Thing)", "Valerie", "Rehab", "Me & Mr Jones", "Monkey Man" and more. Last is the album Remixes – which features the CD debut of 15 tracks – material from Frank and Back To Black – remixed by MJ Cole, Al Usher, Skeewiff, Truth & Soul, Ghostface, Hot Chip, and others. ✨✧ Roger Nichols & The Small Circle Of FriendsRoger Nichols & The Small Circle Of Friends (with bonus tracks) ... CD
A&M/Rev-Ola (UK), 1967. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of our favorite records of all time – a landmark piece of 60s pop that we'd easily rank with the best work by Brian Wilson, Millennium, Gary Usher, Van Dyke Parks, or any of those other California sunny-eyed hipsters! The style is sweet A&M Records vocal pop – with an emphasis on groovy harmonies in a male/female style that reminds us of We Five or The Free Design – but a lot hipper too, as its more adult in its themes – with this way of bringing innocence into play with mature thoughtfulness, but in subtle modes that are perfect for the unique album's placement on A&M! Nichols would later be known for his songwriting with Paul Williams, and was also part of a core group of underground LA pop luminaries that included the whole Warner crew under Lenny Waronker – and this album definitely has some of the sly undertones of some of the hippest late 60s Warner work as well. Titles include "Snow Queen", "Love So Fine", "Don't Take Your Time", "Can I Go", and "Kinda Wasted Without You". CD features 8 more bonus tracks that include "Our Day Will Come", "Love Song, Love Song", "Just Beyond Your Smile (mono 45)", "I'll Be Back (mono 45)", "Let's Ride" and more – plus extensive new liner notes! ✨✧ Sandy SalisburyEverything For You Vol 1 ... CD
Sonic Past (UK), Late 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Rare early work from the great Sandy Salisbury – maybe best known as a member of Millennium, with the young Curt Boettcher – but clearly a great talent on his own! In fact, given that Curt first got his start in the world of folk, the jangle pop of these tunes really shows the strong impact that Sandy had on the later group – as these tunes are mostly demos that Salisbury cut for consideration by Boettcher and Gary Usher, with the kind of dreamy sound that makes music like this the sort of Sunshine Pop heaven! The package features 25 tracks in all – west coast pop perfection, even in a stripped-down style – and titles include "Love Came To Strawberry Lane", "Over & Over Again", "So Much Yourself", "Tomorrow", "A Little Bit Of Love", "My True Confession", "Dealer", "Here Comes That Feeling", "So Close To Heaven", and "Missouri Weeps". I RoyGussie Presenting I Roy (180 gram orange vinyl pressing) ... LP
Trojan/Music On Vinyl (UK), 1973. New Copy (reissue)... $22.99
The classic full length debut of I Roy on record – although by this point, his reputation on the Kingston scene had already been set! Heavyweight producer Gussie Clarke decided to make a move into the Dee Jay realm in the early 70s and recruited microphone fiend I Roy to chat up some of his fiercest rhythms, then pimps the man out in a choice pink suit for the cover shoot, adding up to an irresistible package! When the album was released, I Roy was already a top DJ – part of a whole new hip-stepping generation who could bring a special sort of spin to the music – dropping wisdom and wit with an effortless sense of style – over rhythms that bubble along in a fantastic way – equally effortless in their laidback groove! Titles include "Red Gold & Green", "Pusher Man", "Black Man Time", "Smile Like An Angel", "Peace", "Coxsone Affair", "Screwface", "First Cut Is The Deepest", "Tripe Girl", and "Cow Town Skank". Be! (Germany), 1962. New Copy (reissue)... $22.99
Incredible sounds from the Swedish scene of the early 60s – a 10" album from trombonist Lars Lystedt, whose combo features work from pianist Berndt Egerbladh, who then takes over as a leader on side two! Side one is a stone cooker – tight grooves that are in the best Scandinavian hardbop mode of the time – that crisp new sound that scene ushered in at the start of the 60s – more Blue Note than some of the cooler, west coast Swedish sounds from the decade before – with some nice tenor work from Leif Hellmann, over tight rhythms from Egerbladh on piano, Ray Carlson on bass, and Sten Oberg on drums – on the titles "Fanfar", "So Dere", and "Blues On Down". Side two features Egerbladh's long "Arctic Suite" – a great cut with strong modal moments, and lots of soulful tenor from Hellman! LP, Vinyl record album

One of the weirdest funk records you'll ever hope to own – an obscure concept album on the life and loves of a Las Vegas hustler! The set's got the gritty street-level vibe you'd expect from its cover – a very stripped-down, homegrown studio effort that features vocalist Marvin Neroes backed by a small three piece funk combo – in a mode that's almost like a garage-styled version of a blacksploitation soundtrack! There's less of the full strings and horns of those sorts of records, though – although the album does get a bit of sweetening at times – but the overall approach is a lot more gritty, and really fits the spirit of the songs well – very unusual tracks that include "Sex In Motion", "Pusher Man", "Street Scene", "Funky Heaven", "Going To The Top", and "The Party's Over". Monday MichiruChasing After The Sun/Mysteries Of Life/Inspiration/How Deep Is Your Love ... CD
Polygram (Japan), 2000. Used 2 CDs ... $7.99
Special limited 2CD version! This sparkling single is one of her best yet – with an extended groove on both sides, and a style of production and songwriting that pushers her deeper and deeper into new territory. "Mysteries Of Life" is an amazing track – one that starts with a spare jazzy passage, then moves into a house-heavy groove, but one touches with loads of acoustic instrumentation, which always works best for Monday's soulful voice. The lyrics are great, and the set's like finding some lost jazzy groover from the glory days of Fantasy Records. "Chasing After The Sun" begins with some Afro Funk rhythms, then rolls into a smooth jazzy finish that's got these killer piano riffs touched with little bits of acoustic guitar. Sounds like a classic 70s soul tune, and it's one of Monday's best. "Inspiration" finishes out the set nicely, with a strident groove, righteous lyrics, and nice acoustic guitar in the mix. Pricey – but worth it, as all tracks are great! Plus, the second CD features a remake of the Bee Gees' "How Deep is Your Love" – done with these cool strings, and a great midtempo groove that totally remakes the song into a Monday-driven jazzy groover! Blue Note, 1964. Used ... Just Sold Out!
A brilliant album that proves that even at the height of his success, Lee Morgan was one of the freest thinkers on Blue Note – always coming up with fresh ideas that continued to grow his talents! The first cut on the album is keep roof of that fact – the title track "Search For The New Land" – a beautiful 16 minute exploration of modal jazz themes, with an unusual stop/start device as a means of ushering solos by different bandmates – including Wayne Shorter on tenor, Grant Green on guitar, and Herbie Hancock on piano! The approach is unlike anything that Morgan ever did before – and unlike most of other Blue Note as well – and it also benefits from great rhythmic help from Reggie Workman on bass and Billy Higgins on drums. Other tunes are a bit more conventional, but still pretty special – like some of Morgan's inventive work on the Rajah albums – with titles that include "The Joker", "Melancholee", "Mr. Kenyatta" and "Morgan The Pirate". Ennio MorriconeIl Grande Silenzio/Un Bellissimo Novembre ... CD
Beat (Italy), Early 70s. New Copy ... $19.99
Beautiful work from Ennio Morricone – 2 soundtracks from different genres of film, but both linked together nicely through their styles! Il Grande Silenzio is a spaghetti western, but Morricone's music for the film is remarkably sweet – done in that blend of light melody, isolated instrumentation, and slight electric touches that show up on some of his best work of the Mondo Morricone era. A few tracks are more dramatic or moody, but there's a great feel overall – set up by the theme "Il Grande Silenzio", and followed up by tunes that include "Viaggio", "Voci Nel Deserto", "E L'Amore Verra", and "Invito All'Amore". Un Bellissimo Novembre is a completely different style of film – one that deals with the flowering of young love – but it's also got some sweet Morricone themes that sparkle nicely, done with lusher string orchestrations, but also some key touches that include whistling and a bit of that trademark Morricone "boing"! Includes vocal and instrumental versions of the tune "Nuddu" – plus "Sensi", "Buio Mattino", and "Ancora Piu Dolcemente". CD

Joe Williams is away from Count Basie here, but he's still sounding great – and getting a slightly warmer approach overall – in keeping with the promise of the title! The arrangements aren't credited on the notes, but they've got a slightly lusher feel than Basie – a bit more strings on the ballads, which sound great with Williams' vocals – and a tighter, jazzier feel on some of the groovers – which still evoke a bit of the older days. Heavy funk from the legendary Bo Diddley – one of his amazing comeback albums from the early 70s for Chess, all of which are plenty darn great! For this set, Bo's traded in the scratchy guitar mode of his classic work for a sweeter, tighter funk-based sound – a groove that's supported strongly with electric studio arrangements from Wade Marcus – used here in very nice contrast to Diddley's rougher vocals and guitar! A brilliant little soundtrack from Dizzy Gillespie – composed by Mal Waldron, and played by Diz with a sound and sensitivity that few of his other 60s albums can match! The feel here is quite bold and righteous – a perfect accompaniment for the documentary-like black and white images of Shirley Clarke's film – set in Harlem, and mostly recorded on location in the early 60s! Dizzy's tone is wonderful – bracing one minute, blue-toned the next – and the rest of the group is wonderful too – with James Moody on tenor and flute, Kenny Barron on piano, Chris White on bass, and Rudy Collins on drums. There's a richly expressive feel to the music that makes the set hold up fantastically both as a soundtrack and as a jazz album – and titles include "The Pusher", "Duke's Fantasy", "Coney Island", "Bonnie's Blues", "Duke's Awakening", "Coolie", and "Enter Priest". The classic self-titled debut LP from Run-DMC – one that not only changed hip hop, but much of modern pop and rock forever! There's little we can add to the canon for this record, but the way Run-DMC ushered in a new era in contemporary urban culture, a harder hitting style of rap that managed to bust out of the inner cities and into consciousness of an entire generation, was unforeseen and never to be duplicated to say the least. You can literally call this album revolutionary without sounding heavy handed, it's something very few artists can ever hope to achieve. Amazing! Tracks include "It's Like That", "Sucker MC's", "Rock Box", "Jay's Game", "Hard Times", "30 Days", "Hollis Crew", "Wake Up", and "It's Like That". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Marlena ShawFrom The Depths Of My Soul ... LP
Blue Note, 1973. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An excellent set of sophisticated soul cuts from Marlena Shaw – and a album that more than lives up to the title! Marlena really sparkles here – thanks to impeccable arrangements by Wade Marcus that perfectly mix together jazz and soul – finding that unique space that Shaw and a handful of other singers were exploring at the time. As with some of her other Blue Note albums, the record's got a great sense of cohesion – beginning with a nice dramatic prelude, which then gives way to sublime vocals from Marlena. Along with the soulful strings, the instrumentation includes lots of clavinet and electric piano – another nice approach, one that ushers a little bit of funk into the mix – and titles include "Easy Evil", "Hum This Song", "But For Now", "The Feeling's Good", "Just Don't Want To Be Lonely", Wildflower", "Waterfall", and "Say A Good Word". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has a cut corner and some light wear. Vinyl is nice.)

✨✧ VariousMusic Inside Me – 30 Soul Gems & Lost Grooves ... CD
Expansion (UK), 1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s. New Copy 2CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A great collection of grooves both old and new – pulled from a decades-old tradition of soul music, with a vibe that really lives up to the piles of dusty old records on the cover! The set begins with rare 70s soul, then moves up to the present – and all along the way, there's a focus on well-crafted tracks that really stand out from the mainstream – definitely a few cuts by bigger artists, but not their hits at all – mixed with some great gems from up-and-comers, in a way that makes the whole thing a fantastic discovery in soul! The collection's got a total of 30 tracks in all – all handled by Tony Monson, who gave us the excellent Ethereal Magic collections – with titles that include "Body" by Foreign Exchange, "Don't Let Me Down" by Vesta Williams, "Roster" by Jahiem, "Breaking It Down (downtown orig mix)" by Petalpusher, "Dance Freak" by Chain Reaction, "Rio De Janeiro" by Ugly Duckling, "Don't Be Lonely" by Cameo, "Running Stop Lights" by Mel Waiters, "Don't Wanna Wait" by Lew Kirton, "Twenty Four Seven (Yoruba mix)" by 1968 Featuring Rasheed Ali, "Rescue You" by Ryan Leslie, "Something Inside My Head" by Gene Dunlap, "Afro Jump (nick mix)" by Solodinjgo, "Hangin On" by The Affair, "New York City Blues" by Mark Winkler, "Happier" by Lisa Grand, "Saved By Love" by David Lasley, and "Music & Wine (funkaphonic voc mix)" by Blue Six. ✨✧ Bo DiddleyBig Bad Bo ... LP
Chess, 1974. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
The style's got a bit more electric jazz touches than some of the other Chess blues funk records from the time – but the overall sound is still bound to please any funk fan – and titles include "Bite You", "Stop The Pusher", "You've Got a Lot Of Nerve", and the breakbeat classic "Hit Or Miss"! LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has a promo sticker, ring & edge wear, half split bottom seam, and some writing in grease pen on back.)

✨✧ Curtis MayfieldSuperfly (red vinyl pressing) ... LP
Curtom/Rhino, 1972. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Curtis Mayfield's lasting classic – and an album that the world will remember forever! Apart from being his hugely successful entry into the blacksploitation soundtrack field, this album's also a monster set of grooves that includes some of Curtis' funkiest work ever – a record that works as well as a 70s soul album as it does a hip action film score! The track list alone reads as a who's who of 70s funk – filled with gems that include "Pusherman", "Freddie's Dead", "Little Child Runnin' Wild", "Give Me Your Love", and "Superfly" – and the rest of the set is equally great, essential listening throughout! LP, Vinyl record album
(Rhino Start Your Ear Off Right pressing. Limited edition – with the die-cut flap cover, just like the original!)

Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A bit lusher, and a bit more pop-vocal oriented than some of Nancy's other Capitol albums – this one has arrangements by Sid Feller, and a rich string-laden sound that's nicely juxtaposed against Nancy's soulful vocals. Titles include "Gentle Is My Love", "When He Makes Music", "Funnier Than Funny", "If Love Is Good To Me", and "More". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Scott WalkerStretch/We Had It All ... CD
BGO (UK), 1973/1974. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A pair of great early 70s efforts from the always unpredictable Scott Walker – 1973's Stretch and We Had It All from '74! Both records are Scott's tribute to modern country, with songs written by Jerry Reed, Tom T Hall, Billy Joe Shaver and others like that, along with tunes by writers Scott had covered before, such as Randy Newman and Jimmy Webb. Stretch may have seemed like a pretty remarkable creative stretch from the kind of haunting emotionalism and soaring, darkness-tinged pop of his earlier solo efforts, but there's a pretty direct line in some ways. His inimitably expressive voice carries the mood, with folksier touches to the songcraft and production paired with the occasionally lusher strings and other grand touches. We Had It All has a similar vibe, with Scott pulling off touching country balladry and rollicking stripped down jams just as well. 21 tracks in all: Sunshine", "Just One Smile", "Use Me", "Where Love Has Died", "Low Down Freedom", "We Had It All", "What Ever Happened To Saturday Night", "Old Five And Dimers Like Me", "Delta Dawn" and more. ✨✧ VariousStrut My Stuff – Obscure Country & Hillbilly Boppers ... CD
Modern Harmonic, 1950s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Fantastic sounds from deep deep in the country music underground of the postwar years – not the hits of the big artists helping to define the sound in the era of full length LPs – but the lesser-known singers who were lucky enough to be able to record a single 45! Yet although these artists are obscure, they're all pretty darn great – and are from a time when the music was really just still coming together – finding a very strong voice in a growing field of interest, but with a vibe that's very different than the more old-time sounds of just a few years before! "Hillbilly" is probably the operative world here – as the singles lean heavily on modes that were more popular before the bigger productions and presentations that ushered in mainstream country changes in the 60s – which means that there's plenty of twang on the guitar, lots of tight small combo instrumentation, and production styles that are more than raw enough for the mood of the tunes. We're huge fans of work from this period, but the collection was still filled with music we've never heard before – artists who don't even show up in the Bear Family or Hillbillies In Hell side of the spectrum – 32 rare gems from Ray Anderson, Tex Cherry, Leon Tassin, Cliff Shepherd, Bill White, Weldon Rogers, Slim Redman, Bobby Rutledge, Freddie Frank, Riley Crabtree, Penny West, Aubrey Bradford, Lou Millet, and many more.
