Tullio De PiscopoSotto E N'Coppa ... CD
Carosello/New Platform (Italy), 1975. New Copy ... $19.99 22.99
Italian drummer Tullio De Piscopo is at his most dynamic here – working with his Revolt Group, in a blend of styles that's very heavy on percussion and electric jazz! At some level, the vibe is a bit like some of the more hard-hitting fusion of the Billy Cobham generation in the US – but there's also some different touches in the mix, as additional percussionists are added to the lineup – which also features Fender Rhodes and moog from the mighty Sante Palumbo, plus saxes from Peter Guidi and Giorgio Baiocco, and guitar from Sergio Farina! The music's definitely in the more jamming side of the European fusion world of the time – jazz, influenced by a bit of prog – although nicely changed up in song modes from track to track, which definitely keeps things interesting. Titles include "O Sipario", "Sotto E Ncoppa", "Porta Capuana In Festa", "Tarantella Po Scugnizzo", and "Rettifilo Ora Di Punta". CD
Also available Sotto E N'Coppa ... LP 38.99

Tullio De PiscopoSuonando La Batteria Moderna ... CD
Vedette/Dialogo (Italy), 1974. New Copy ... $18.99 22.99
Legendary drummer Tullio De Piscopo is all by himself on the cover, and that's how he sounds on the record – just playing solo, but with amazing grooves that hardly make you miss the other instruments at all! Tullio's got a long legacy in both jazz and club music – yet this set may be one of his most unique, and one of the purest demonstrations of his talents as a musician – as he manages to serve up these solo tracks that are all rhythmic and very groovy, with a melodic command of the drum kit that fills in all the other elements you might miss – on tracks that move between classic hip hop break cuts, to Brazilian-inflected groovers, to some other rhythmic masterpieces that were certainly years ahead of their time back in 1974! Titles include "Afro Cubano", "Samba Carnival", "Rocking Special", "Afro Jazz", "7/4 Rock", "Fast Afro Samba", "Drum Fantasy", "Onda Nueva 3/4", "Moderato Swing", and "Dodiciottavi". CD

Tullio De PiscopoTullio De Piscopo Vol 2 ... LP
Carosello/New Platform (Italy), 1976. New Copy (reissue)... $36.99 39.99
The legendary Italian drummer Tullio De Piscopo is at his most dynamic here – effortlessly blending funky jazz, soul, and bits of prog – all at that level that soon made him a legend in the clubs! Tullio's a hell of a drummer at the core – you'll know that if you've ever heard his solo work – and here, he uses his masterful style on the kit alongside bits of vocals, guitar, and bass – plus some great work on saxes and flute from Larry Nocella and Giorgio Baiocco! There's some added percussion at many points too – and Tullio handles rototom, congas, and timpani next to his work on drums – stretching out with some help on arrangements from jazz talents Sante Palumbo and Mario Rusca too. Titles include the longer "Concerto Per Napoli", plus "Afelio", "Fiesta", "Sipario", "Funiculi Funicula", "Periello", "Guainella", "O Stadio", and "Il Mondo Gira". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Tullio De PiscopoFuture Percussion ... LP
Carosello/New Platform (Italy), 1978. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of the best-ever albums from Italian drummer Tullio De Piscopo – a very spiritual set that draws a heck of a lot from work on the session by tenorist Larry Nocella – who's tremendous throughout, and may well deliver one of his best performances on record! Tullio is nice and loose, and very open – different than on some other records, and really moving in sympathy with the bass of Lucio Terzano and piano of Luigi Benefede, in lines that are warm, lyrical, and often modal – a quality that's augmented by the guitar work of Giorgio Cocilovo, and which really seems to have Nocella finding a whole new range in his music! Luis Agudo is a special guest on the set, adding lots of additional percussion to the proceedings – and titles include "Barbara", "La Mia Natura", "Scetete/Garrison My Dear", "Say It", and "For Larry". ✨✧ Gerry Mulligan & Astor PiazzollaSummit – Reunion Cumbre ... CD
Trova/RGS (Argentina), 1974. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A magical meeting of two tremendous talents – saxophonist Gerry Mulligan and bandoneon player Astor Piazzolla – heard here in a rare Italian recording from the 70s! The album's a really unique effort for both musicians – a bit more pensive and thoughtful than some of Piazzolla's usual work from the 70s, and much less jazz-based than Mulligan's other records – more in a soundtrack mode, and one that seems to have echoes of Gato Barbieri's score to Last Tango In Paris! Like that great record, this one mixes Argentine styles with freer, more fluid ones – updating roots with a 70s sense of sophistication, and really letting Gerry Mulligan take off in long, open-ended solos that are among some of his best work of the decade. Other instrumentation includes marimba, guitar, keyboards, and percussion from Tullio De Piscopo – plus a bit of strings as well – and titles include "Hace Viente Anos", "Deux Xango", "Viente Anos Despues", "Reunion Cumbre", "Reminiscencia", and "Anos De Soledad". ✨✧ Tatsuo HayashiSuper Percussion Vol 1 (2022 Japan Record Day Release) ... LP
Crown/Lawson (Japan), 1979. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Plenty of super percussion here from Japanese drummer Tatsuo Hayashi – and also plenty of funky as well, given that the whole thing was put together with the glittering clubby feel of the image on the cover! The record's not entirely disco, but it resonates strongly with that groove – as Tatsuo uses a smaller combo with guitar, keyboards, bass, and plenty of percussion – stretching out on grooves that are instrumental, but have plenty of nice hooks throughout – a groove that's maybe similar to when drummer Tullio Di Piscopo started heading for the clubs! Titles include "Metalcharm", "Sucha Roca", "Latin Rock", "Fast Disco", "Hi G", "El Paso", "Slow Disco", and "Castin Blue". LP, Vinyl record album
(Special Japan Record Day Release – with obi!)
