Fox Millions DuoBiting Through (white vinyl pressing) (2019 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Thrill Jockey, 2019. New Copy ... $20.99
Avant percussion heroes Greg Fox and Kid Millions team up as the Fox Millions Duo! Biting Through is bigger sounding than a lot of the experimental instrumental or post-post rock out there, with a driving drum sound and thick layers of synth in both the heavier and more frenetic moments, and the more methodically paced, looser moments – even in the sparest passages the atmosphere is thick. Sharp stuff! LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition white vinyl pressing!)

Sarah LouiseDeeper Woods (colored vinyl – with download) ... LP
Thrill Jockey, 2018. New Copy ... $18.99 20.99
Brilliant folk guitar and airy, lovely vocals from Sarah Louise! Deeper Woods is one of the finer modern folk rock records we've heard in a while – and really does run deeper, mixing acoustic and electric instrumentation in unique way – with Sarah singing and playing 12-string guitar, and keyboards and even an alto recorder, and some spare accompaniment throughout. We'd recommend this to fans of Vashti Bunyan looking for something new, and that's not a comparison we'd make lightly! Includes "Bowman's Root", "When Winter Turns", "The Field That Touches My House And Yours", "Pipevine Swallowtails", "Up On The Ridge", "On Nights When I Can't Sleep" and "Firepink And Milkweed". LP, Vinyl record album
(Orange colored vinyl limited to indie stores. Includes download.)

Sarah LouiseNighttime Birds And Morning Stars ... CD
Thrill Jockey, 2019. New Copy ... $13.99 15.99
The biggest creative stride yet for guitar experimentalist Sarah Louise! Sarah continues to use folk traditions – from acoustic guitar, to Appalachian songcraft, to field recordings of nature and more – as a springboard for inventive composition, but this might be the most distinctive and most abstractly inspired work we've heard from her to date. Rooted in 6 string guitar in standard tuning, but fleshed out tremendously with field recordings, bits of synth and really beautiful (and mostly wordless) vocals. Includes "Daybreak", "R Mountain", "Ancient Intelligence", "Rime", "Swarming At The Threshold", "Late Night Healing Choir", "Chitlin Flight" and "Nighttime Birds And Morning Stars". CD

Sequoyah MurrayPenalties Of Love EP ... 12-inch
Thrill Jockey, 2019. New Copy (pic cover)... $12.99
A really amazing debut from Sequoyah Murray – a young soul singer we have a feeling we'll be hearing plenty from in years to come! Sequoyah's got a style that's very much his own – one born out of frequent collaboration and improvisation – with elements that are maybe as jazz-based at times as soul – often set to spare instrumentation with percussion, keyboards, and other subtle sonic elements – frequently very much in the low range of the sonic spectrum, but not in a way that leans heavily on basslines or beats. Instead, there's all these moody sub-spectrum elements that shimmer beneath the vocals – and which create a platform that makes the whole thing unlike anything else we've ever heard. Titles include "True Fun", "Second Born", "Haven", and "Penalties Of Love". 12-inch, Vinyl record

Jeff ParkerRelatives ... CD
Thrill Jockey, 2005. New Copy ... $8.99 14.98
Great early post-millennium outing from Tortoise's Jeff Parker! This set for Thrill Jockey sounds great with the addition of Sam Barsheshet to the group on Rhodes and Wurlitzer. Drummer/percussionist Chad Taylor and bassist/multi-instrumentalist Chris Lopes fill out the group. Parker's style is clean, generous and collaborative, leaving plenty of casual space within the tunes for the players and room on the tracklist for the other players' compositions. The centerpiece of the album is a great version of Marvin Gaye's "When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You", which the group turns into more of an after hours sweet spot than a mournful soul lament. Nice, nice work! Other tracks include "Istanbul", "Mannerisms", "Sea Change", "Beanstalk", "Toyboat" and "Rang (For Michael Zerang)". CD

✨✧ Sam PrekopWho's Your New Professor ... CD
Thrill Jockey, 2005. Used ... $1.99
Another fine outing from Sam Prekop – his second solo album in five years – and well worth the wait! We hardly need to describe the vibe after all these years of swimming the Sea & Cake. Prekop's vocals are as breathy and breezy as ever, and he still pulls it all off in a way that manages to feel warm and austere at the same time. The arrangements are one step jazzier than that last album's – with plenty of room for his great group find a playful groove. Tracks include "Something", "Magic Step", "Dot Eye", "Two Dedications", "Chicago People", "Little Bridges", "A Splendid Hollow", "C+F", "Neighbor To Neighbor", "Density", and "Between Outside". CD

Sea & CakeAny Day ... CD
Thrill Jockey, 2018. New Copy ... $13.99 15.99
The Sea And Cake as fresh and breezy as ever! It's almost hard to believe, but Any Day marks the 25th years of The Sea And Cake – intermittently throughout that time span, anyway – and one of the most consistently brilliant runs in indie rock. They've always had an easygoing melodic sound, but never to sugary in the melodies and with slowburn appeal that makes their records forever listenable. Their sound is so distinctive, it's always good to have them back! Includes "Cover The Mountain", "I Shouldn't Care", the jazzy Brazilian pop-inspired title track, "Occurs", "Starling", "Paper Window", "Into Rain", "Circle", "These Failing Arms" and more. CD

TortoiseMillions Now Living Will Never Die (180 gram pressing – with download) ... LP
Thrill Jockey, 1996. New Copy (reissue)... Just Sold Out!
Essential early-ish Tortoise – and among their best records ever! The bassy, heavily rhythmic aspect of their earlier recordings is as well intact and distinctive as it was on the benchmark self-titled album and earlier singles, but the group really branches out here and incorporates many more diverse elements. The 20+ minute opener "Djed" is as incredible as ever, starting with that brilliant bass line and some staticy effects, which is compelling enough, but soon the drums and organ kick in and it becomes what might be post rock's most epic instrumental anthem. The shorter tracks are hardly less vital. "A Survey", "The Taut And Tame", "Dear Grandma And Grandpa", "Glass Museum" and "Along The Banks Of Rivers". LP, Vinyl record album

Sidi ToureToubalbero ... CD
Thrill Jockey, 2018. New Copy ... $9.99 16.99
A more joyous, upbeat side of Mali blues singer and guitarist Sidi Toure – and maybe his best yet for Thrill Jockey! Backed by a tight group featuring Boubou Diallo on backing vocals, Djadke Traore on guitar, Ousmane Dagnon on n'goni, Baba Traore on bass and Mamadou Kone on drums, Sidi soars out front with his trademark spindly electric guitar and soaring vocals on songs that are as lively as any we've heard. Part of that might be due to this being his most electric guitar based album we've heard, but the songs themselves have a bigger, loftier sound. Includes "Hendjero", "Moulaye", "BK", "Djirbi Mardkie", "Toubalbero", "Tchirey", "Handaraizo", "Heyyeya", "Sitiali Boubou", "Kaoula" and "Tarzidet". CD

Thrill Jockey, 1996. Sealed ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Their 3rd LP, and the one that broke them out of the box. Went gold on it's first week of release in the UK or something like that. Includes "Djed", "Taut & Tame", and "Glass Museum". The same spacey drum/bass/vibes/etc grooves as the first, but with a force so strong it spawned a whole generation of rock journalists. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Marisa AndersonCloud Corner ... CD
Thrill Jockey, 2018. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Completely captivating work from Marisa Anderson – an instrumentalist who could easily match the groundbreaking sound of Takoma Records in the 60s with her work on albums like this! Marisa's a guitarist at heart – and mostly plays electric and acoustic on the record, using the instrument in this spare, open sort of way – far from American roots, but also very American at the same time – informed by all the modern changes on the instrument in the hands of the acoustic underground in recent decades, but delivered with a very down-to-earth approach that's extremely beautiful. Anderson plays a few other instruments over the course of the record – including a bit of Wurlitzer electric piano – bu the guitar dominates, in a wonderful way – on titles that include "Lift", "Sanctuary", "Surfacing", "Cloud Corner", "Sun Song", "Lament", "Slow Ascent", and "Pulse". ✨✧ Sea & CakeSea & Cake (colored vinyl pressing – with download) ... LP
Thrill Jockey, 1994. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of the breeziest breaths of fresh air in mid 90s inide rock! As much as any band of the era, The Sea & Cake managed to filter diverse tastes into their own music, from easygoing, unaggressive indie pop & rock, to Afro-Caribbean and Brazilian pop, rock and soul rhythms, to some vaguely jazzy strains without every really sounding like anything other than The Sea & Cake. There's no overstating what a welcome sound The Sea & Cake brought to their early era, a period when noisier, much more aggressive sounds were so prominent in both the indie rock landscape and the modern rock mainstream, not that The Sea & Cake players' preceding or other concurrent projects paid much attention to overarching trends.Includes "Jacking The Ball", "Polio", "Flat Lay The Water", "So Long To The Captain", "Lost In Autumn", "Showboat Angel", "Bombay" and more. Thrill Jockey, 1998. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Tortoise's third album, and pretty remarkable creative leap for the inventive Chicago ensemble – now with the great guitarist Jeff Parker in the fold! Like their earlier records, TNT features an incredibly haunting mix of percussion, electronics, and jazz-oriented instrumentation – put together with an approach that's even more sophisticated than earlier releases. That said, the guitar makes a huge difference – and there's a lot of guest players in the mix, including horns and strings. Definitely one of their best ever! Titles include "Swing From The Gutters", "Four Day Interval", "Jetty", "Everglade", and "The Equator". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Glenn JonesGiant Who Ate Himself & Other New Works For 6 & 12 String Guitar (colored vinyl pressing) ... LP
Thrill Jockey, 2018. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A record that's as evocative as its title – a perfect showcase for the very unique talents of guitarist Glenn Jones – a player one might link to a tradition that includes John Fahey and Robbie Basho, save for the very individual style that Jones brings to his music! There's almost as much of a sense of setting and story here as there is the musicality of the guitar – with song titles that are as imagistic as the sound of the guitar – at times as gentle as it is striking, which makes for an album of subtle beauty throughout. As with other Jones recordings, there are occasional sonic elements that lurk in the background, in a very understated way – and titles include "The Sunken Amusement Park", "The Giant Who Ate Himself", "The Last Passenger Pigeon", "A Different Kind Of Christmas Carol", and "Elliot Audrey Born Today". Thrill Jockey, 2008. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
The Sea & Cake's most instantly addictive album in years – one that blends the more anthemic style of their recent work with some bubbling synthy grooves! The group is nothing if not consistent, and they don't radically rework the set structure – with Sam Prekop's effervescent, breathy vocals over arrangements that sometimes lean on the uptempo rockishness that accented the previous LP, along with more glossy electronic impulses. Another essential album from one of our favorite Chicago bands! Titles include "Aerial", "A Fuller Moon", "On A Letter", "Car Alarm", "Weekend", "New Schools", "Window Sills", "Down In The City", "Pages", "The Staircase", "Mirrors" and more. Thrill Jockey, 2003. Used ... Out Of Stock
Another wonderful CD from the fertile mind of Takemura-san! Moving slightly away from the skittering, percolating bent tone approach of some of the preceding albums, this CD has a number of nice song-form pieces with the sing song vocoded vocals almost suspended in space over the gentle electronic tonalities. Many of the numbers have a more straight forward rhythmic approach, with some nice pulsing interludes and bubbling electronics, a soundtrack to another childlike world of fantasy! 16 tracks in all, including "FallsLake", 'Wandering", "Machine's World", "A Puff Of Word", "Lost Treasure (4th version)", "Funny Illustrated Book", "Astral Beads" and "Polymorphism".
