✨✧ Thomas CrowLong March Of Pop – Art, Music, & Design 1930 to 1995 (hardcover) ... Book
Yale University Press, 2014. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of the most compelling books we've ever read on Pop Art – and one of the most visually stunning, too – given that the heavy, hardcover volume is filled with images that go way past the familiar tropes of the movement! Author Thomas Crow takes a very longform look at Pop Art – the movement that flourished mostly in the early 60s, but which is presented here in the wider date brackets of the title – with an especially strong eye for the pre-60s forces that created it – both the role of some of its key artists in advertising and design in the 50s, but also the shifting scape of the gallery world in general, and even surprising contributions from forces like folk music and surf culture. The book is huge – oversize, and over 400 pages – with images not just of artworks, but also of the scenes and events as well – all to accompany the very thorough text by author Thomas Crow. Key figures include Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Claes Oldenberg – but there's lots more stops along the way. Book

✨✧ Michel LegrandWindmills Of Your Mind – Music Composed & Conducted By Michel Legrand – From The Thomas Crown Affair & Others ... LP
United Artists, Late 60s. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
This is sort of a compilation that features Michel Legrand's great scores for the films Thomas Crown Affair, Young Girls of Rochefort, La Piscine, and Play Dirty. We think that most of the stuff has been re-recorded for this album, but we're not sure. Whatever the case, this is a stellar album of beautiful Frenchy soundtrack stuff, and it's all tight instrumental Now Sound nuttiness. Titles include "His Eyes, Her Eyes", "Souvenirs", "Chanson D'Un Jour D'Ete", "A Man's Castle", "Jazz Theme From Play Dirty", and "Chanson De Maxence". LP, Vinyl record album
(Shrinkwrap has some sticker remnants.)

✨✧ Billy ByrdLost In The Crowd/Silly Kind Of Love ... 7-inch
Soul 7 (UK), Early 70s. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Hard to get lost in the crowd with a groove this great – a bubbling midtempo modern soul rhythm – a perfect match for Billy's more rough-edged vocals! There's a nice sort of percolation in the rhythms – almost a bit like Timmy Thomas on Glades – but Billy's sound is more deeply soulful overall! "Silly Kind Of Love" is mighty nice too – a tune that soars along with a very warm, happy vibe that we totally love. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Jazzman pressing.)
