✨✧ Bo Diddley16 All Time Greatest Hits (white colored vinyl) (2018 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Checker/Sundazed, Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
If it were up to us, every song Bo recorded would have been a hit – because they're all so great! This album does a pretty good job of sorting out the best numbers, though – picking 16 tracks from his all-great albums for Chess – with a focus on the tightest and most groove-heavy numbers, all of which feature that wild square guitar! Titles include "Pretty Thing", "I'm A Man", "Bo Diddley", "Bring It To Jerome", "Hey Bo Diddley", "Road Runner", "Bo Diddley Is A Gunslinger", and "Hush Your Mouth". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition of 1350 – on white vinyl!)

✨✧ CymandeSecond Time Round (180 gram pressing) (2018 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Mr Bongo (UK), 1973. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Heavy bass, tight percussion, and a wonderfully trippy groove – the stunning second album from Cymande, and one of our funk favorites from the 70s! These guys have a sound that's completely unique – a vibe that mixes African and Jamaican influences up in the heady London scene of the early 70s – with results that were years ahead of their time, and which still go onto blow many minds all these years later! The bass alone is worth the price of admission – as dubby as anything from Kingston, but with a tighter focus – one that drives some sinister lines from the vocals, and which gets strong support from lots of lively conga passages. There's a slight stoner undercurrent, but the sound of the set is never sleepy at all – and titles include the classic "Anthracite", "Fug", and "Them & Us" – plus "Genevive", "Willie's Headache", "For Baby Ooh", "Bird", and "Crawshay". ✨✧ Sun RaAstro Black (2018 Record Store Day Release) ... CD
Impulse/Modern Harmonic, 1973. New Copy ... $15.99
One of the darkest Sun Ra albums of the early 70s – and a set that's also a bit unusual in his catalog as well! The album was issued during Ra's run with Impulse Records – a period that mostly saw the label reissue previous records from the Saturn catalog – save for a rare few like this one, which was an unusual all-new batch of material for Impulse! Because of that, it's been a bit overlooked in later years – maybe missed as less authentic, but actually some of the most striking sounds that Ra created at the time! There's a very strong tension here between electric and acoustic elements – not in the usual fusion-based way, but instead with this vibe that often has the electric instruments providing darker areas of sound, while the woodwinds and percussion have a way of humanizing the proceedings. June Tyson's also at her moodiest on the title track, "Astro Black" – and other titles include "Hidden Spheres", "Discipline 99", and the long improvisation "Cosmo Fire". CD

✨✧ Sun RaCymbals/Symbols Sessions – New York City 1973 (2018 Record Store Day Release) ... CD
Modern Harmonic, 1973. New Copy 2CD ... $24.99 25.99
A lost slice of work from Sun Ra's early 70s years on Impulse Records – one of the few new recordings created for his association with that label (most of the titles were reissues of earlier Saturn albums) – but one that was never issued at the time! Cymbals saw some release later, during the 90s – but this package really expands on that album by adding in a whole extra set of recordings from what appear to be the same sessions – and which really flesh out the vibe of the performance! The core group is a sextet – with Ra at the helm on some of his cool electric keyboards – including minimoog, rocksichord, and Gibson Kalamazoo – with acoustic work from Eloe Omoe on bass clarinet, Tal Ebah on trumpet, Ronny Boykins on bass, Harry Ar on drums, and Derek Morris on congas. Much of the core music explores a tension between Ra's cosmic keys and the more earthy sound of the acoustic instruments – but the added material here opens up some nicely different moods, and makes the whole thing explode with deep colors. Titles on Cymbals include "Land Of The Day Star", "Thoughts Under A Dark Blue Light", "The Mystery Of Two", and "The World Of The Invisible" – and added tracks include "Space Landing", "Of Drastic Measures", "Of Otherness", "The Universe Is Calling", and "Destination Of The Known Universe". Betty Wright & The RootsBetty Wright – The Movie (2018 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
S Curve/Expansion (UK), 2011. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $24.99
Amazing, simply amazing – and a record that's way more than we were expecting! The Roots team up here with legendary Miami soul singer Betty Wright – in music that comes from a film project, but which really stands up brilliantly on its own – as a record that may well be Betty's best recording in decades! Questlove helped Betty with production, and the sound is a brilliant update on that 70s Miami Funk mode that first brought Wright to fame – lots of lean, snakey, TK-styled grooves – played by Roots members with a slight ear towards contemporary modes, but a damn keen appreciation for 70s soul all the way through! And although the set features a few famous guests – Snoop Dog, Lil Wayne, Joss Stone, and Lenny Williams – it's Wright who really blows our mind here – a hell of a singer after all these years, nestled in a perfect set of tunes to make her sparkle all over again. Titles include "Old Songs", "Real Woman", "In The Middle Of The Game", "Surrender", "Grapes On A Vine", "So Long So Wrong", "You & Me Leroy", "Look Around", and "Hollywould". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited to 1000 copies! First time on LP!)

Funky cuts from the Motown catalog – a set that mixes key classics with a number of overlooked album cuts – all to remind us that the Motor City label could get plenty heavy in the groove! There's a few cuts here you'll know from hip hop samples, a few you'll remember for their own fame, and a number of others that should hopefully come as a new discovery – and which really make the package great! Titles include "Drink The Wine" by Valerie Simpson, "Gonna Find A True Love" by Bottom & Company, "Machine Gun" by Commodores, "Thank You Falletinme Be Mice Elf Agin" by Earl Van Dyke, "Closing Jimmy's" by Marvin Gaye, "Behold" by James Jamerson, "It's The Same Old Love" by Jerry Ross Symposium, "I'm Losing You" by Rare Earth, "To Know You Is To Love You" by Syreeta, "Haiku" by Puzzle, "Got To Give It Up (part 1)" by Marvin Gaye, "Keep On Truckin" by Eddie Kendricks, "Every Time I See You I Go Wild" by Stevie Wonder, "Runnin" by Edwin Starr, "You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover" by Yvonne Fair, and "UFO's" by The Undisputed Truth. It's lovely stuff, an honest and emotional take on Mozart played on piano, rather than a spacey synth adaptation and pieces include "Allegro Moderato", "Andante Cantabile", "Allegretto","Rondo F-Dur KV 494", "Adagio H-Moll KV 540", "Allegro" and "Adagio". ✨✧ Rob Base & DJ E-Z RockIt Takes Two (colored vinyl) (2018 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Profile, 1988. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
This might not be the most important or vital album in the history of hip hop – but it's got some indistibutable, unstoppable party jams all the same! "It Takes Two" will always be guaranteed to rock any party – and if Rob Base on the mic isn't anything to write home about, at the time Profile dropped this album, even the Jimmy Castor, ESG and James Brown samples weren't totally played out – and still sound great today. Given the sort of tracks that pollute the radio airwaves under the guise of hip hop these days, this is a respectable, if commercial rap album. 10 tracks in all, also includes the hit "Joy & Pain", plus "Make It Hot", "Check This Out" and "Get On The Dance Floor". An unreleased live set from the legendary Wipers – recorded on New Year's Eve in the very familiar territory of Portland – where the group's in wonderful form! The set features some nicely stark takes on the kinds of searing material that made the group such a standout at the time – not entirely punk, but not entirely Northwest either – on titles that include "Something To Prove", "Alien Boy", "Messenger", "Romeo", "Dimension 7", "Heart On Fire", "Potential Suicide", "Mistaken Identity", "Telepathic", "No Generation Gap", "Pushing The Extreme", "Fly By Night", and "Scared Stiff". ✨✧ Yung WuShore Leave (with flexi disc) (2018 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Coyote/Bar None, 1987. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of the most beautiful albums to come from the Hoboken scene in the 80s – a Feelies side project that's every bit as great as that group's albums from the time! In fact, the style here is almost an answer to the mode of their classic Good Earth album – a similar blend of hypnotic rhythms, basslines, and acoustic guitar – but with a changed-up version of the group, so that their roles are shifted, and the sound is as well! But like Good Earth, the music here is deeply personal – much more so than the Feelies at their start – a real breath of fresh air in the 80s scene, with Dave Weckerman on vocals, and fantastic criss-crossed guitars from Glenn Mercer and Bill Million. Titles include "Shore Leave", "The Empty Pool", "Big Day", "Eternal Ice", "Return To Zion", "Child Of The Moon", "Modern Farmer", "Asperation", and "Powderfinger". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes limited edition two song flexi-disc!)

Love Vinyl/Passion (UK), 1979. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of the most upbeat cuts ever recorded by Timeless Legend – a great little groove that has trumpets bubbling up along with the rhythms, as the group's own vocals soar out over the top with this wonderfully positive vibe! "Baby Don't Do This To Me" has a great approach too – still uptempo, but a bit more modern soul and clubby – with an excellent lead that really retains a soulful sound in the lyrics. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Jackpot, 1988. New Copy 2LP ... $23.99 35.99
A never-issued live set from the great last chapter in Sun Ra's career – that moment when the Arkestra was finally getting the global attention it deserved, and was working with even more confidence than before! During the period, Ra had this great way of folding in older strands of jazz with the group's always-creative vibe – swinging at times, soaring at others – and working with a larger ensemble here that includes Michael Ray and Eddie Gale on trumpets, Tyrone Hill on trombone, Knoel Scott on alto, John Gilmore on tenor, Danny Ray Thompson on baritone, John Ore on bass, and Bruce Edwards on electric guitar. Ra plays keyboards and piano,a nd June Tyson sings a bit – and Marshal Allen handles alto, piccolo, flute, and oboe. Titles include "Sunset On The Nile", "Space Medley", "The Shadow World", "Stardust From Tomorrow", "Blue Lou", and a few long improvisations! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Bernard Purdie & FriendsCool Down (2018 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Sugar Road, 2018. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Legendary drummer Bernard Purdie has left a huge legacy of music behind him – and here he adds to that legacy in a new small combo set – one that features core work from members of New Mastersounds and Pimps Of Joytime – and which also features Ivan Neville on keyboards, and Cyril Neville on some guest vocals! The groove here is pretty faithful – the set was recorded in Brooklyn, and doesn't have the too-commercial sound that it might if it were on a major label – and titles include "Elevate", "Cool Down", "Money Bags", "Deep In Love", "Stranded", "Frank Funk", "Better Man", and "The Golden Tie". Yep Roc, Mid 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Beautiful blue-tinged work from Tia Blake – a folk singer at heart, but one who's also got this chilling sound that sometimes hits us in the same way as Nico's music during her early solo years! The tracks here were all recorded after Tia's one and only full album – and come as a much-needed addition to her too-small catalog. And even though these songs are demos, they have the same feel as Tina's only "studio" work from before – with titles that "My Father Is A Lonely Man", "White Bird", "Country Boy", "Wish I Was A Single Girl Again (Rehearsal)", "Child Ballad #95", and "Betty & Dupree". ✨✧ Mickey HartRamu (marbled colored vinyl) (2018 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Verve, 2018. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Mickey Hart's a long way from the Grateful Dead here – and working in that pan-global sense of rhythm that he brought to his solo projects from the 80s onwards! Given the atmospherics in the production, and the mix of electric and acoustic instrumental elements, and the easy stepping across cultural boundaries – there's almost a Peter Gabriel/Realworld vibe to the record at times. Titles include "Big Bad Wolf", "Wayward Son", "Auctioneers", "When The Morning Comes", "Jerry", "Wine Wine Wine", and "Who Do You Think You Are". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition colored vinyl pressing!)
