Monday MichiruDelicious Poison ... CD
Kitty (Japan), 1996. Used ... $4.99
An album that has Monday Michiru returning to her jazz funk "roots", and singing with a band that plays live throughout, with no overdubs or samples. The band is a tight collective of young Japanese players, and they get a good hard sound that's reminiscent of the playing on the early Brand New Heavies LPs. Of course, Monday sings in the deep soulful style that she always brings to these sessions, and the set includes loads of great cuts like "Tattoo My Heart", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", "Conversations With Myself", "Nadir", and "To Live As To Dream". Great stuff, and one of the best acid jazz LPs to come out in the last decade! CD
(Out of print, includes obi.)

✨✧ VariousBanana Split For My Baby – 33 Gems From The Good Old Summertime ... CD
Bear Family (Germany), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The sounds of summer in the years before the Beach Boys and surf music – songs that proclaim the glory of the warmest months of the year, but in raunchy styles from the early years of rock and roll! Artists run the gamut from rockabilly singers, to R&B groups, to some surprisingly strong contributions from more pop-oriented acts – and as with other Bear Family packages of this nature, the whole thing is plenty playful – put together with a good deal of wit in the song choices and presentation! Titles include "Sunday Barbecue" by Tennessee Ernie Ford, "The Sun Is Shining" by Elmore James, "Banana Split For My Baby" by Louis Prima, "Summer's Coming (demo)" by Ronnie Dawson, "Strollin On The Beach" by The Hollywood Flames, "Beach Time" by Roger Smith, "Suntan Tattoo" by The Valiants & Sandy Vale, "Summertime Love" by Roy Head & The Traits, "Beach Comber" by Jo Ann Campbell, "Night Theme' by The Mark II, "Moonlight Swim" by Nick Noble, "26 Miles" by The Four Preps, "Sunglasses After Dark" by Dwight Whitey Pullen, "Summertime Rock" by Rodney & The Blazers, and "The Big Beach Party" by The Jades with Pacer's Music. Rock Beat, Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Nasty cats with plenty of attitude – all stepping out here in an assortment of weird and wonderful singles from the farther reaches of the indie underground at the end of the 50s and start of the 60s – the kind of strange, offbeat records you'd associate with a package issued under the name of The Cramps! The CD features tunes that are a perfect accompaniment to the juvenile delinquent paperback rage of the 50s – and titles include "Motorcycle Mack" by Terry Ann, "Betty Lou's Got A New Tattoo" by The Creep, "Savage" by Alan Barnicoat, "Juvenile Delinquent" by Ronnie Allen, "Wild Boy" by Rock Holman, "She's A Moonlighter" by Johnny Carlton, "Little Blonde Girl" by Don French, "The Big Black Jacket" by Marcel St Jean, and "The Wild One" by Ricky & The Stompers. Duke Ellington & His OrchestraMasterpieces By Ellington (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Columbia, 1950. Used ... $4.99
True masterpieces from Duke Ellington – some of his greatest compositions, presented here in an early Columbia LP that offers up "uncut concert arrangements" – clearly grooming a new side of Duke for the long-playing audience! The recordings were made in 1950, with players who include Johnny Hodges and Paul Gonzalves on saxes, Ray Nance and Cat Anderson on trumpets, and Tyree Glenn and Quentin Jackson on trombones. The tracks include "Mood Indigo", "Sophisticated Lady", "The Tattooed Bride" and "Solitude". Includes 3 bonus tracks – shorter numbers, but great ones – "Vagabonds", "Smada", and "Rock Skippin At The Blue Note". CD
