Tasavallan PresidenttiChanging Times & Movements – Live In Finland & Sweden 1970/1971 ... LP
Svart (Finland), Early 70s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $34.99 44.99
Never-issued music from this legendary group – recorded by Finnish radio near the start of their career, and making for a fantastic addition to their classic catalog! Tasavallan Presidentti are even more full-on and jamming than on record – still with some of the shorter songs and heavier vocals from Frank Robson, who was with them at their start – but already soaring with guitar from Jukka Tolonen, and work on alto, soprano, and flute from the great Pekka Poyry – who'd later go on to make some great records on his own! The approach is less fusiony and more rocking than the group in the mid 70s – and the set lists here feature a nice array of unusual material. Titles include "Impressions Of India", "Gigolo", "Deep Thinker", "Whirlwind Nightmare", "Going Back", "Ain't Ya Coming Home Babe", "Tis Me Tis You", and "Driving Through". LP, Vinyl record album

Tasavallan PresidenttiLambert Land (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Love/Svart (Finland), 1972. New Copy ... $16.99 17.99
Maybe the crowning achievement for legendary Finnish prog group Tasavallan Presidentti – a set that really has things coming together in ways that would separate the group apart from the rest – in a record that's almost all composed by Jukka Tolonen, the legendary guitarist in the group! The tunes have maybe even more of an instrumental focus than before – although new singer Eero Raittinen gets his share of space on the set – and reedman Pekka Poyry is really on fire on a variety of saxes and flute, chopping out these amazing lines that effortlessly blend jazz fusion and prog rock energy. Titles include "Lounge", "Lambertland", "Dance", "The Bargain", "Last Quarters", and "Celebration Of The Saved Nine". CD features the bonus tracks from a single – "Sisaltani Portin Loysin" and "Selva Nakija". CD

✨✧ Tasavallan PresidenttiMilky Way Moses ... CD
Love/Svart (Finland), 1974. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
You may not be able to pronounce the name of Tasavallan Presidentti easily – but man, they're one heck of a group – a key combo from the Finnish scene of the 70s, and one that effortlessly blends together jazz and rock modes, but with a sound that's very different than most other music of its type at the time! At the core, these guys are tremendous musicians – a lineup with the great Jukka Tolonen on guitars and keyboards, and Pekka Poyry on saxes and flute – both players whose dexterity is balanced nicely by some rhythms that move between funky passages and more freewheeling moments – all topped with great vocals from Eero Raittinen, who's got this fluid way of moving with the groove! Titles include "Confusing The Issue", "How To Start A Day", "Piece Of Mind", "Jelly", and "Caught From The Air". CD

✨✧ Tasavallan PresidenttiTasavallan Presidentti (yellow vinyl pressing – with bonus tracks) ... LP
Love/Svart (Finland), 1969. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
The monumental first album from Finnish legends Tasavallan Presidentti – a hell of a group, and one that was equal parts jazz and prog – and maybe one of the few who got the blend just right! The lineup is filled with some really heavyweight instrumentation – most famously from guitarist Jukka Tolonen, one of the best Scandinavian players of the time, and an artist who rose to global success – and the group also features work from Juhani Aaltonen on soprano, tenor, and flute – an artist who had equally well-respected chops in the jazz world too! The group also features lots of organ lines and bass from Mans Groundstroem, heavy drums from Vesa Aaltonen, and vocals from Frank Robson – a good singer, but one who maybe takes second place next to the guitar and reeds! Titles include "Crazy Thing Nr 2", "You'll Be Back For More", "Who's Free", "Drinking", "Driving Through", "Wutu Banale", and "Roll Over Yourself". 2LP version features four bonus tracks from singles – "Time Alone With You", "Obsolete Machine", "Deep Thinker", and "Solitary". ✨✧ Tasavallan PresidenttiTasavallan Presidentti 2 ... CD
EMI/Svart (Finland), 1971. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A hell of a second set from Tasavallan Presidentti – one of the coolest groups in Finland at the start of the 70s, and a combo that shows just how closely that scene's prog and jazz worlds were tied together at the time! The music is equal parts rock and jazz, but with a freewheeling vibe that maybe even beats some of the bigger, better-known jazz rock acts of the UK – as Tasavallan Presidentti really knock it out of the park with work on guitar from the mighty Jukka Tolonen, and searing alto, soprano, and tenor solos from Pekka Poyry – both artists you'll know from other jazz recordings too. The rhythms are tremendous – Mans Groundstroem on bass and Vesa Aaltonen on drums – and Frank Robson handles vocals with a nice raspy touch, always in English. Titles include "Tell Me More", "Deep Thinker", "Introduction", "Struggling For Freedom", "Weather Brightly", and "Sinking". CD

✨✧ Tasavallan PresidenttiLive In Lambert Land ... LP
Svart (Finland), 1972. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A never-issued live set from this fantastic Finnish prog combo – recorded around the same time as their classic Lambert Land album, and featuring many songs from that record – but served up here in a long-jamming style that really takes off with lots of improvisation on the solos! The group were always as much about jazz fusion as they were about rock – and you can definitely hear that hear on the long guitar solos from the great Jukka Tolonen, and the always-great, always-varied work by Pekka Poyry on soprano, tenor, flute, and even a bit of organ! Eero Raittinen sings, when he gets a chance – and the whole thing is driven up from the bottom beautifully by the bass of Mans Groundstroem and drums of Vesa Aaltonen. Titles include "Lambertland", "Celebration Of The Saved Nine", "Dance", "Ramblin", "The Bargain", "Lounge", and "Celebration Of The Saved Nine/The Bargain". LP, Vinyl record album
