✨✧ Sven WunderNatura Morta ... LP
Piano Piano, 2024. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Sven Wunder evokes an older European style of painting with the cover and title of this set – and the tunes themselves are painterly, but also in a funky way too – a great mix of gentle grooves and larger instrumentation, all filled with the sorts of charms we love in older Italian film scores from the 60s and 70s! There's a richer array of elements here than on some of Sven's other records – as there's guitar, electric piano, flute, and flugelhorn at the core – augmented with some larger light strings that really sweeten up the sound, but all without ever getting in the way – a masterpiece of space, sound, and groove throughout! Titles include "Panorama", "Umber", "Barocco Ma Non Troppo", "Natura Morta", "Prussian Blue", and "Impasto". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Sven WunderWabi Sabi ... LP
Piano Piano, 2024. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the coolest albums we've ever heard from Sven Wunder – a set that not only takes on an old school sound library instrumental mode, but serves it up with all sorts of Japanese and East Asian touches! The rhythms are funky, and laced with keyboards – but there's also some sounds here that might come from koto, shakuachi, and other older instruments – used in ways that are similar to famous 70s Japanese albums that mixed folk styles with funky jazz! Sven plays a host of keyboards – including Moog and Wurlitzer electric piano – and titles include "Hanami", "Komorebi", "Blanket Fog Descends", "Wabi Sabi", "Bamboo & Rocks", "North Wind Rattles The Leaves", and "Shinrinyoku". We JazzIssue #9 – Oisters ... Magazine
WeJazz (Finland), 2023. New Copy ... $24.99 28.99
There's never been a magazine like this – a publication that seems to cover jazz of the past and the future with equal enthusiasm – and which has a way of making everything come together in a wonderfully vivid way! As with previous issues, the choice of subjects seems very close to our own hearts – as a mix of great writers take on artists who include Petter Eldh, Shabaka Hutchings, Jason Moran, Darius Jones, Sven Wunder, and spiritual reedman Carlos Garnett – while also looking at the Sounds Of Freedom residency, and the cool Hip Holland Hip record as well! Speaking of records, Mats Gustafsson turns in a great entry of his Discaholic column – which is then followed by pages of great reviews of other jazz treasures from the past and present. The whole magazine is done in a book-style format – squarebound, 128 pages, very little ads, and cool color images throughout! Magazine

VariousHow We Walk On The Moon ... LP
P-Vine (Japan), 2024. New Copy ... $32.99 39.99 About June 19, 2024 (delayed)
A very cool collection – and one that's hardly the ambient set you might expect from the title! Instead, think of these tracks as mellow jazzy gems – tracks both vintage and contemporary, but with a laidback vibe and a nicely offbeat way of approaching the music – so that the whole thing is groovy, but in an understated way – with an overall sound that makes the whole compilation one of the most unique we've heard in years! Titles include "Pop" by Ditto, "Harmonica And" by Sven Wunder, "Alto Glide" by Brian Bennett & Alan Hawkshaw, "Piano Sur Du Lac" by Akira Inoue, "Clouds" by Gigi Masin, "The Word" by Shigteo Seikito, "Morning Sunrise" by Weldon Irvine, "This Is How We Walk On The Moon (it's clearing up again radio edit)" by Johanna Billing, "Arriving" by Yanaco, and "Hyper For Love" by Lemon Quartet. LP, Vinyl record album

VariousMr Bongo Record Club – Vol 6 ... CD
Mr Bongo (UK), 1960s/1970s. New Copy ... $11.99 14.98
A stunning blend of soul, Latin, jazz, and Brazilian numbers – and a set that may well be our favorite entry in the Mr Bongo Record Club so far! If you know the Mr Bongo label, you'll know that for decades, they've turned us on to the sort of rare gems we might not have heard otherwise – especially Brazilian, Global, and Latin bits – and the way they intersect with American grooves of the 60s and 70s – an intersection that's explored heavily here in a really fantastic assortment of tunes! Titles include "Talkin" by Vee Gees, "Africa Bossa" by The Drive, "Okosa Bushi" by Chiemi Eri, "Japao" by Dora Morelenbaum, "Bakom Glaset" by Dina Ogon, "Copa Sete No Samba" by Copa 7, "Estrada" by Hareton Salvanini, "Ye Me Le" by Hazel Scott, "I Do Love You" by Ash Soul Inc, "Eternal Life" by Shira Small, "A Volta" by Mirna, "I'll Keep My Light In My Window" by New York Community Choir, and "Um Amor Para Toda A Vida" by Ines Soares, and "Easy Going" by Sven Wunder.
