Clara MondshineMemorymetropolis ... LP
Survival Research (Italy), 1982. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99 26.99
A totally fantastic 80s album from electronic wizard Clara Mondshine – one that's a fair bit different than her earlier material, and also shows maybe a bit of influence from the post-punk world of the time! The instruments are often stark, sharp, and rhythmic – but with lots of darkness in the corners, at a level that really reminds us of the best Chris & Cosey material from the period – equally stripped-down, with a key focus on certain elements on each track, and moments of surprising beauty that flower amidst the shadows. Better even than most dark wave classics – and titles include "Chipmania", "Metasamba", "O Queen Of Saba", "Caesar In Camerun", and "High Moon Enters Heaven". LP, Vinyl record album

Clara MondshineVisions Of Audio ... LP
Survival Research (Italy), 1987. New Copy ... $22.99 24.99
Late 80s work from Clara Mondshine, and a set that's every bit as beautiful as some of her electronic classics from the 70s – but in a nicely different way! The technology has changed a bit here, and includes some digital elements – but still used with the sense of space and melody that makes Mondshine so great – and given some slight vocal touches from time to time – not lyrics, but voices instead – processed with a very cool style that's different than vocoder work too! Titles include "1922 In Baku", "Turangalila", "Lo & Li", "Promised Land", "The Final Ritual", and "Ocean Of Tears". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Rita Lee & Tutti FruttiEntradas E Bandeiras ... LP
Som Livre/Survival Research (Italy), 1976. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A standout solo set from Os Mutantes member Rita Lee – an album that's different than both her work with that group, and her early solo material – and which sort of represents a return to the roots of rock and roll during the middle part of the 70s! The group features ex-members of Lisergia – and they back Rita up with a style that's a lot more rock and roll than some of her crossover albums of later decades – almost in that way that the Mutantes would sometimes reference rock roots and turn them on their head – but much more straightforward here. Titles include "Corista De Rock", "Lady Babel", "Departamento De Criacao", "Superstafa","Posso Contar Comigo". LP, Vinyl record album
Also available Entradas E Bandeiras ... LP 19.99

✨✧ ChequersCheck Us Out ... LP
Creole/Survival Research (Australia), Mid 70s. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
An obscure little set from the UK scene – the first full album from a group who started out with more of a Jamaican influence, but soon moved heavily into soul – although served up here with all sorts of very cool, very unusual touches throughout! The groove can be straight, but there's also some weird keyboard lines and nicely offbeat saxophone bits too – which make these guys way more than just another copycat soul group! There's lots of nice groovers here that you wouldn't expect to be great – like "Check It Out (At the Disco)", which has a good rolling bassy groove, or the group's cover of "Get Up Stand Up", which has a nice bass and drum break on the intro. Other cuts include "Theme One", "Rock On Brother", "Undecided Love", and "Riding High". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ West Coast RevivalWest Coast Revival ... LP
Lax/Survival Research, 1977. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A really unusual record from this obscure west coast harmony trio – a set that was issued during the height of the disco years, but which has this warm group soul vibe that's much more like east coast material from the earlier part of the decade! The harmonies are great – really great interplay between all three singers, given these well-crafted backings by Joe Falsia and Jerry Goldstein – both arrangers who bring in enough Cali soul touches to hold to the group's name, even if their vocals represent a much earlier, more stripped-down approach to harmony soul! The bend is wonderful, and very unique – and the album's a lost gem that we'd put up there right next to RCA work by Choice Four or Main Ingredient. Titles include "So Far Away", "It's Gonna Be Hard", "Familiar Places", "My Mind Is At Ease", "The Family Was Right", and "Talkin Bout Love". LP, Vinyl record album
